I disagree. Fallout 1 was only good if you didn't knew about the lore beforehand. As a RPG, it's pretty linear and doesn't give the player many alternatives to solve an issue. Of course, the setting and atmosphere is great, but so was Fallout 2. Besides some silly encounters, the second one improved everything against the first.
what are you talking about? Anyways, the first one has a pretty moronic problem with saving and corrupting save files to the point of ruining an entire run if you save mid combat. It's an essential mechanic that pretty much ruins the entire game if you didn't installed a mod to fix it. So I can say that the game is bad just by this major problem. Also, my wiener is much bigger than yours
yeah, I agree. I liked that MacGyver was sherif of Junktown or whatever it was, and the little quest there and how you could beat the boss without fighting. I enjoyed that.

you don't have to spend the perk point >can level SPECIAL all you want beyond your initial choices
Both 3 and NV do this, sometimes forcing it on you through quest or just playing the game >>most perks are boring shit that only serves as a replacement for skills >"variety"
Those got replaced by Perk mags, which again you don't have to pick up
Have you guys played Sonora? I've heard that it wasn't translated yet so I volunteered to help them out, but they said they were currently "testing" or something.
i'm sure it was fully playable a few years ago
thats when i remember playing it at least, i could be hallucinating again
fallout of nevada was the worst shit i've ever played in my life
I don't hate Fallout 2, but like with almost every game after Fallout 1 it kind of lost the "style" for lack of a better word. Fallout 1 felt like it had a really good base for that grimdark humour, but the later games (including 2) just went with the >lel so randumb xD
and >movie reference
humour instead. it felt like the atmosphere of the original was lost on the other games. my biggest gripe with FO2 is the RNG being completely off its fricking meds
>fallout >you start in a tribe
how jarring like fallout 1 had a setting thats really good and instead they just throw you into something unrelated to any of the original setting and atmosphere
like in the first one you start in a fricking vault
it is goofy, but Fallout 2 (and the other titles) feel like they fully embraced the goofy aspect.
Fallout 1 still felt like it was dark + goofy.
I also said that Fallout 1 had a good base for the dark humour, which the other games seemingly threw away in favour of more randomness.
TLDR;
There is such a thing as keeping your dark atmosphere but also being able to throw in wacky shit every now and then
I don't really care much for how my posts have entered someone's schizo folder. When I typed that up, I was expressing that the humor in Fallout 2 didn't just come from thin air, ie 1 had camp/pulp moments and easter eggs too. I never said that humor was bad, and I wasn't trying to browbeat people for finding different things funny either.
I don't hate 2.
The whole tribal start is annoying as frick though. All the tribal characters are annoying as frick.
Feeling compelled to invest in melee shit just to get through the tutorial more smoothly is shit design.
Once you leave Arroyo, though, the game actually gets good.
But also what this guy says:
I don't hate Fallout 2, but like with almost every game after Fallout 1 it kind of lost the "style" for lack of a better word. Fallout 1 felt like it had a really good base for that grimdark humour, but the later games (including 2) just went with the >lel so randumb xD

That's not to say Fallout 1 didn't have movie references everywhere but outside of special encounters they were much less on the nose and mostly sci-fi themed. Whereas when you investigate the outhouse in Modoc there's a goonies reference thrown right in your face.
That said, though, the entire top half of the map has as much to do in it as the entirety of fallout 1 and you're not even half way through the game at that point. I don't like the car in Fallout 2. It's a gameplay convenience and possibly a necessary evil given the scope of the game sure, but it just kills the immershun.
I also played the release OG version of Fallout 1 before they patched out the hard timer of the game and I actually liked it better that way. I mean on play-through 1 it kind of sucks unknowingly bricking your play-through by game-overing almost immediately after hiring the water merchants but it encourages experimentation in subsequent play-throughs. It also prevents you from cheesing health management by just resting constantly. Fallout 1 just felt more bleak and dire in general from start to finish. Fallout 2 was pure fan service. If I went and played through a fallout game right now though I would probably play through Fallout 2 of course just because you get 3 times as much Fallout in one game.
>Feeling compelled to invest in melee shit just to get through the tutorial more smoothly is shit design.
You can just run past all the enemies in the temple and either pickpocket / speech the gay guarding the exit.
I used to play the flatout demo back in the day because outside of demo cds nobody sold pc games, sadly when i finally got around playing the full game in 2019 i did so bad i never touched it again.
Playing Fallout 2 right now, and it's still a good game, but did it have different writers? I feel like it's a hundred times hornier than the first one.
>but did it have different writers?
The game was forced to be made a certain way to appeal to a larger audience and the original creators were bullied into leaving the company. This makes Fallout 2 the first goyslop game ever made which is why it's design philosophies mirror modern rpgs more closely. Basically if you like Fallout 2 you're a redditor.
The person who actually wrote most of the setting of Fallout 1 (Scott Campbell) left long before the original final game shipped in the first place. If you dislike 2, it's probably a knee-jerk response. It has a lot of objective improvements over 1.

That's literally me. Fallout is dogshot.
you are like opposite of me then, i hate party based rpgs, i dont mind npc companions like in f2 or arcanum but dont want to micromanage their every move and leveling skills.
Its the one game Ive replayed the most. Coupled with mods like Nevada and Resurrection its probably my most played game ever, sans TF2. Something is just so satisfying about getting that gauss pistol and popping 5 enclave Black folk in one turn.
>being a meleegay but not picking jinxed
you're missing out, your enemies guns will explode while you just miss and lose a turn at worst. its hilarious.
i copied it from https://lilura1.blogspot.com/2020/07/Fallout-2-Best-Weapons-Small-Guns-Big-Guns-Energy-Weapons.html
i never actually played melee build, might try it next time i will replay fallout
awareness is nice but its actually pretty useless. you dont really need to know the exact weapon and hp an enemy has.
IIRC living anatomy doesnt stack with critical damage, its a flat +5 bonus damage at the end of the calculation. not all that useful.
bonus ranged damage is cool if you use burst weapons, otherwise its quite useless too. two action boys would serve you better than living anatomy + bonus ranged damage. instead of awareness you could take toughness which is decent for a first perk at early game.
It's stuff like that, that makes me not want to play CRPGs. I don't feel like going through the manual or some online guide just to be able to create a character that doesn't suck, and I don't trust old RPGs to be easy enough that a bad build will still get me through. The thought of putting 10 hours into a game only for some random enemy to b***h slap me to death because I didn't know what I was supposed to do in a game I have never played before kills any interest I might have had. Say what you want about Fallout 3, but at least you don't need a degree to play it
None of these things are necessary, you can literally handcraft a worst possible character in the game with all the worthless skills and you can still reach the end of the game.
Hyper optimized stuff is what autists do for fun, not an actual requirement to playing the game.
But will you have fun with a bad build? You might be able to get to the end, with enough patience and/or grinding, but if you're not having fun along the way, why bother? It's enough just learning to play the game mechanically without feeling like I'm being punished for not already knowing how to play it in every other way. Basically, I want the default party from Legends of Grimrock, where I can go in blind on my first playthrough and not worry. Then, if I enjoy the game, I'll come back and, using the knowledge I now have, try something fancier or custom built
these games are easy as shit, you get power armor and super op guns, even a bad build is not going to make your experience any less fun. the detail you should know beforehand is to max ag so you get as much action points as possible. like the anon said the hyperoptimization is what autists do for fun.

>Basically, I want the default party
There are three premade characters that are sub optimal from a minmaxing autist perspective but perfectly fine to enjoy the game on your first run.
It is legitimately hard to build your character in a way it is utterly worthless, you have to go out of your way to do so.

Only if you know literally everything that's coming and how to avoid it.
Fallout 1 and 2 are unplayable text dumpsters. You literally will have more fun reading a book than to try to watch this out of focus pixelated blurry garbage where all you do is to click endless texts without almost any voice included. I don't think there's any great video game in history that aged as badly as original Fallouts. It's quite a thing actually. Really almost breaks my heart, however we got the modern Fallouts, which saved the IP and are still playable to this day. Also anyone defending the original Fallouts is of course a good flag to recognize an idiot who never played at it at the original time + is desperate to pander trying to sound like some OG gamer. Embarrassing, but useful to filter people.
I never cared about a lot of complaints of Fallout 2. To me, at the time, that's just what the games were, and I didn't care. I played 1 and 2 right after 3. The fact that there are talking deathclaws meant nothing to me, because it's a sci-fi game where elements are different in certain areas. I always perceived these unique elements to be retroactive: There are lots of things in 2D Fallout that aren't/practically aren't used in the 3D games hardly ever, and I just saw these things as another part of that. The only thing that has ever made me question that is the developers saying that they always didn't like. I would not care, otherwise.
>Fallout New Vegas has since obtained a cult following, with some critics referring to the game as the best in the Fallout series as well as one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
He still writes better fiction than Chris Avellone, who is obsessed with long-winded characters talking about poetry for 30 years and over-the-top technology.

There are three premade characters that are sub optimal from a minmaxing autist perspective but perfectly fine to enjoy the game on your first run.
It is legitimately hard to build your character in a way it is utterly worthless, you have to go out of your way to do so.
>None of these things are necessary, you can literally handcraft a worst possible character in the game with all the worthless skills and you can still reach the end of the game.
>Fallout 1 and 2 are unplayable text dumpsters.
Strange, as so many people played them...
???? theres barely any reading in those games
Arcanum and Temple of Elemental Evil plays better as far as old isometric are concerned.
Sawyer hates the NV cult
Why is TKs-Mantis obsessed with these lines when kids in movies say worse things all the time?
>when kids in movies say worse things all the time?
TK Mantis is a fricking moron that started shitting the bed when Bethesda banned him from their discord
He still writes better fiction than Chris Avellone, who is obsessed with long-winded characters talking about poetry for 30 years and over-the-top technology.
Is what Joshua says supposed to be controversial? Seems he's basically saying everyone is a product of their environment and even great person X didnt rise from a vacuum.
Mass Effect 2 is the greatest RPG of all time.
I'd agree with this post if the picture wasn't a fallout game and instead was arcanum
i love arcanum and its my favorite rpg but its not even half as polished as fallout 2
holy frick the cringe
Why aren't you playing fallout 2 total conversion mods?
because last time I played Fallout Nevada it fricking glitched and no vendors had any sort of supplies
I have no idea how that happened, I just played nevada with the extended edition patch and it just werked.
Olympus is worth playing and is translated to english.
is there anything worth playing - and translated to english - when i already played nevada and resurrection to death?
I did.
I dont speak russian
Fallout 2 was the Borderlands of its day. I played it about ~10 years ago and even I realized how fricking awful it is with every other piece of dialogue being dated reference humor.
Fallout 1 was infinitely better.
>the only female pre-made character (Chitsa) has 10 CHR and the trait Sex Appeal
>tags are Barter/Speech/First Aid
>literally only good for bawdting it through the game
What did Black Isle mean by this?
I cheated my character to max stats and level so I wouldn't miss out on any content on my first run.
Bethesda never “raped fallout” because it raped itself from being lolsorandum shit even in the first game. Classicgays and NNA morons still being butthurt 25 years later is the most pathetic thing I have ever seen
>Tim Cain says he didn't like some of the humor in 2 (even though he is responsible for some of it)
>HAHAHA FALLOUT WAS NEVER GOOD SO BASED HAHAH
>Tim Cain says he doesn't like some of the humor in 3
>UHHH WELL HE'S IRREVERENT AND NO ONE CARES BASED HAHA
Bethesdagay attempts not to be a disgusting rat challenge (impossible)
Is the part where you get raped by a supermutant in 1 or 2?
2, you get that hot mutant dick if you lose an arm wrestling match in broken hills.
