BESM 2E Third Swings at Bat

Recently see the GoO/Dyskami getting rights back and are republishing the Second Edition of the Big Eyes Small Mouth.

How bad do you thinks Mark's gonna frick BESM up this go around?

This is Big Red Flag for me. It could be better to just releasing original BESM 2E but another print run, not frick it up.

    Also Red Cover ugly eyesore.

I'm tempted to pledge just for the hardcover. I don't usually support Kickstarter on principal, but BESM 2eR has been in my regular game rotation since I picked up a copy over a decade ago.
But, I'm concerned about these updates and changes. Like, If I could get some confirmation that it was just editing errors or rules clarifications, sure. But are they going to rebalance attributes? Flat out change rules? It's a red flag that I'll have to keep an eye on. Either way, I'll snag a pdf when they drop just to compare between the two.

Yeah, I'm with the other two. I might back it but I'm worried the "updates" might be current year and "modern audience" pandering.

BESM 2nd Ed was the first rpg I bought, although for whatever reason I never got round to running it even when I was gaming every other night.

It certainly looks better than 4E, which seemed great till I realised that a mecha has no way to damage another mecha.

I can't recall anything in the book that they'd want to neuter. If they put in anything Current Year it would have to be new content.

Mark C. MacKinnon will take the money and run like he always does. I hate that such a piece of crap is associated with BESM. I b***h about all these sloppy game designers, but you have to be absolute scum to rip-off the Nobilis chick. Mark is a shitbag, do not give him any money.

Any random paragraph written by her screams ‘naive hippie chick on hallucinogens’, which is as close as ttrpgs will ever get to having a precious cinnamon bun. All of her stuff is spastic and barely playable, but that’s not the point.

Thank you for reaching out to us, Jeremy, and for the kind memories about earlier BESM editions. When Guardians Of Order went out of business, it left many unpaid billed with freelancer artists, writers, printers, and investors. There are no secrets regarding the company’s demise and many of the debtors have been quite public about their unfortunate financial losses.

Before Dyskami Publishing released its first board game, Upon a Fable, I released a statements on boardgamegeek.com that you can read here:
        https://boardgamegeek.com/article/12017667#12017667

Since that post six years ago, Dyskami has released nine tabletop gaming products and remains solvent with no unpaid debts. Dyskami is a completely different company than Guardians Of Order was and their business operations are unaffiliated since GoO is defunct and has not been publishing any products for well over a decade.

Though I realise my post six years ago didn’t give everyone the answers they wanted, it is a factual accounting of the situation that saw GoO’s demise in 2006.

Again, thank you for taking the time to email us about BESM Fourth Edition. We are tremendously excited to revisit the RPG once again!

Last time I checked the only relatively new thing to come out of tri stat/BESM was the new edition of "Absolute Power"/Silver age sentinels. I kind of miss the days when GoO released official Anime RPGs like Sailor Moon and Helsing I hope they do that for new anime too.

Who cares as long as the rules work and it's playable, just like with Mark McKinnon (BESM) i don't care what they did as long as the end product works. I'm sick and tired of this bullshit being brought up instead of the merit of a system/game. I'm over it and i'm past anyone saying X person who wrote game/system did Y thing, what a piece of shit that person is.

If you truly believe this, then steal the book and don’t argue for funding some OoP edition. But you’re horny for (you)s, like a bumphomo.

No because all this drama crap doesn't matter, who cares what he did all that really matters is can game/system do X. In this case can it do anime/manga campaigns. Can i run a Dragonball style campaign, or giant mechs fighting giant lizards with atomic breath. That is the only thing that really matters when it comes to discussing game systems, i'm tired of X did Y being brought up as a cudgel when all i want is a anime/manga system that lets me do a anime/manga campaign. Why shouldn't i get BESM if it does it well and i can run the campaign i want to with it?

        Anonymous

Let McKinnon and the artist fight that out for themselves that is not my problem. I just want a game system that let's me do what i'm looking for.

That is the fricking question, is it worth kickstarting it. But instead people want to focus on stupid shit that doesn't matter.

            >20 year old rule reprint

Because a reprint of a rule system from 20+ years ago is bad, because it was from 20 years ago that makes it bad? Like a reprint of AD&D 2nd Edition would be a bad thing because of how long ago it was printed or 3.5. Old=/= bad.

Mark, if you're reading this I was there in the 3E playtest. I saw your breakdown as everyone told you it was a bad idea. Now here you are reprinting 2E instead of 3E. And looking at how bad 4E is, you are going to frick it up. I hope you get kidney stones.

If it's anything like 3e, I hope it fails horribly because BESM 3E was legitimately the worst TTRPG I've ever run, to the point my group all agreed it was steaming hot dogshit 2 sessions in and dropped it like the garbage it is. From a glance at 2e, it seems like the same Mutants and Masterminds powerset with the same shitty mechanics so I think I'll pass.

3E was rushed to fulfill shipment to the customers. In the Industry you can get away with not paying your Freelancers & Illustrators, but if you don't deliver Something to your Customers, you open yourself up to all sorts of Litigation.

God, please don't remind me of M&M 3e.
Shitty mechanics that clearly weren't playtested enough, books that weren't proofread properly, and leftie+troon politics injected more and more as the books went on.

Can't believe I let myself get suckered in on buying physical copies several years back...

One thing's for sure, Green Ronin can go under and I'll be aughing.

As one of the 3 guys on this board who will shill for it (the newer version)... It's perfectly serviceable and easy enough to learn and bend into the shape of a given setting you like, but kind of hell to balance. Puts a lot of the responsibility to keep everything fair on your table with minimal advice on how best to do that.
