I like New Vegas quests and factions more than Bethesda games, but jesus christ, what a terrible open world.
In your first playthrough, you wouldn't notice the flaws, but after your 2-3 playthroughs, you started to see holes in Obsidian's linear open world especially if you avoid the long route to New Vegas.
There are barely any quests on the other side, and if you want to do some quests, you still have to head over to the strip again.
I think a combinqtion of Morrowind's open world design and New Vegas' open world design would be kino
I actually like how the game guides the player's early, but like you said there should be some more content on the other side.

I put over 400 hours in Fallout 4. Such a damn good game. I didn’t even care about the story that much

Fun fact, Terminator: Future Shock pioneered free mouse-look controls, so Todd is kind of the man responsible for FPS as we know it today.
