FFXI >focused on actually on the multiplayer aspect >no vertical progression, no holy trio, no gacha elements or TODO lists >communication a big element >mostly impossible to survive or play alone >great music and environments >world is actually dangerous >every area is relevant
my whole experience with MMORPGs was downloading whatever free to play garbage i could find in the mid-2000s and playing it for three weeks at the very most, and since my understanding of english was very limited i mostly ran around and did nothing productive, so i can't really give an educated opinion on the matter
that said knight online was the very first one i played and it was my first time meeting turkroaches
i also remember silkroad online and flyff fondly
For a casual who was always more interested in exploring the world, quests/lore, leveling characters, minigames, collecting stuff, music and not huge on the multiplayer which was often too much of a commitment – Genshin does everything MMOs did better
>not massive >barely multiplayer/no one coops >isometric >braindead gameplay, not even dodge circles tier of trash
If what you said was true, it didnt even come close
Makes me sad how shit this genre is. It really does. It's such a bad genre with bad themepark games that are not an MMO at their core. I constantly want the next big MMO and I am constantly disappointed. It is all shit all of it. Now the one game I wanted to play Blue Protocol is literal garbage in Japan and it isn't looking good here. Ashes of Creation seems like it is too good to be true.
LOL blue protocol, that shit is closer to a gacha game than an mmo from what ive seen. No player trading, no AH, but you bet your ass they have several gachas
PSO Ep 1 and 2/BB >Lobby based >Loot based >No do 100000 quests >Exploration is 100% dungeons >Difficult content forced parties and cooperation >No dressup homosexualry so you only focus on the game >level cap of 200 >multiple difficulties with increasing loot strength >Peak sci-fi setting
I miss PSO so fricking much and I hate what they did to the franchise. Infact every game has failed for not replicating PSO1. The only game that did even 25% was monster hunter and monster hunter isnt trying to be the same game but it has some aspects from it for sure. I really wish we got a spiritual successor to PSO or even a remake of the original
sounds based if only it wasnt dead and old as shit
pso2 was gay ass anime shit and new genesis is too fast, no thought in the combat at all except muh flashy anime swings his katana 200 times per second
NGS just added procedural dungeons and a super hard raid boss fight. And a personal dps meter for those who care. The game is finally spreading its wings.
yes its fun for 400-600 hours, just make sure you choose your classes wisely because if you decide mid story that your class sucks for whatever reasons, you are stuck running literal circles killinf enemies over and over for months which is the reason why i dropped the game
>new genesis >too fast
It's slow as shit even compared to early PSO2, especially since almost every class can be played around counter mechanics. Even the fricking tech classes have counters.
im talking about the spammy nature of the attacks and animations
it tries so hard to sell you a fluid system which is just glorified attack for x seconds and block/evade/counter while getting spammed with 20 enemies
at no point in time i had the feeling i was in control like for example when playing ninja gaiden or dark souls or even ni oh
doesnt help that all that fluff and it still feels float as shit thanks to next to zero attack commitment
its a weird fricking game for 1% turbo autists who love this shit and 99% dress up homosexuals
Pretty much why I went Ranger and shut down my brain >fight mobs by spinning around with rifle and spam Homing Shot >fight bosses by holding Fear Eraser, or spamming Multi-launch if it's shit like Dark Falz, and tossing sticky bombs to regen PP during attacks
Ultima Online is peak MMO. Pure sandbox. SWG pre-NGE might be #1 but let's be honest the combat really wasn't very good. It reminded me of playing MUDs with the /action type of combat and queuing them up.
>WoW
pozzed and the story went to complete shit, it's basically not even warcraft anymore
probably still has the best tab-target combat and general content. Vanilla is just the same shit but mostly dumbed down and filled with autists. >FFXIV
Most sleep inducing gameplay I've seen in an MMO and that's saying a lot. The story, whilst good at times, is brought down massively by the insane amount of filler quests and cutscenes which comprise roughly 70-80% of it. Also getting dumbed down every expansion. >GW2
Kind of braindead and zero sense of progression. Cool maps and quest system. It's just too basic, it's a game you play and you never feel like you actually did anything. >Runescape (OS and RS3)
The only appeal RS has is figuring out the quests and exploring, which you can't really do anymore since the game is solved and everyone is meta speedrunning. So unless you are going to play completely alone (which defeats the point of an MMO) all that's left is tedious skill grinding. >BDO
Combat that is all flash and zero substance. Characters all look like overdesigned barbie dolls. Pay to win as frick, horrible performance. Legitimately don't understand why people praise the combat in this, any of the other games I mentioned have better combat, and once again, that's saying something. >EVE Online
Spreadsheets in space. Fun if you like getting into interpersonal drama/griefing, but otherwise, the game is actually pretty shallow in terms of content. >SWTOR
Decent enough to waste some time and just watch the stories but again, if you're gonna do that, just play a singleplayer game. Gameplay is braindead. >ESO
Honestly, beyond all the ones I posted, this one is probably the one I've got the least amount of problems with. I just think the characters look like shit and the combat is extremely repetitive. Also TES lore nerds tell me it rapes the lore. >DDO
Outdated and old, sadly. And solved, like RS.
I think ESO gets a moronic level of hate but is actually pretty good for an MMO. I think WH40k Eternal Crusade was in a similar spot, it was actually just fine but everyone just dogpiled and got spun up on some moronic hopium hurricane thinking it would get patched to AAA quality overnight.
eso has no content except for the same dungeons youve been running for months and its just 4 people which defeats the mmo aspect
good luck getting into raids without a static
which leaves us with running dolmens for rare motifs which you sell for half the price to actually get rif of that shit cluttering 5 of your guild vendors
money is complete aids to come by and everything is so hyperinflated you might as well reconcile the fact that you never be able to go above purple which leaves us with boring as frick story quests, i dont play mmos for the story noone should
it was fun for 500 hours but the issues are just glaring to a point i wonder if anyone who made eso know how to make an mmo
every game is solved now, even when a new world of warcraft expansion comes out there is already a pdf file that is literally a digital autopsy and the game is completely solved before it launches.
games arnt the problem people are
Pretty much.
That, and MMOs are swarming with morons trying to play solo and rush the endgame like that's the point.
Which, I guess is the same thing again, people are the problem.
Full looting pvp is a novelty that went the way of the dodo because it just results in pussies only playing ganking builds or running around in packs of 10+ zerging down solos and avoiding fights they may have any possibility of losing.
That still stays more fun and engaging imo than mainstream MMO slop where it's all PvE and no-stakes arena shit. I came to the conclusion years ago that MMOs just aren't for me tbh but I think the genre has high unrealized potential so I'm always holding out a little bit of hope.
I can't play any of them because there are no more humans left with souls.
Now I just try to pass time until God finally comes to fetch me.
You gotta play with the diehard autists on private servers, UO outlands, FFXI horizon, ragnarok probably has a populated one
Wouldn't call them best but I'm a fan of UO, FOnline, Ragnarok Online and Haven & Hearth.
Anything that forces people to play together and communicate instead of just 'learn rotations' and matchmaking I'm all in for it
Absolute kings
You probably would like Lineage then.
Simple as
FFXI
>focused on actually on the multiplayer aspect
>no vertical progression, no holy trio, no gacha elements or TODO lists
>communication a big element
>mostly impossible to survive or play alone
>great music and environments
>world is actually dangerous
>every area is relevant
FFXIV
It's new so it's better
Not an mmo, homosexual zoomer
FFXIV is as much an MMO as destiny 2 is
Second Life is more of an MMO than troony chat room simulator.
Lotro because lotr.
>Engaging in the LOTR IP in 2023
Shiggy Diggy
Frick you. Prove you know nothing about lotro some more. homosexual.
Sorry your game is dying, must suck, but i dont play wowclone garbage
my whole experience with MMORPGs was downloading whatever free to play garbage i could find in the mid-2000s and playing it for three weeks at the very most, and since my understanding of english was very limited i mostly ran around and did nothing productive, so i can't really give an educated opinion on the matter

i also remember silkroad online and flyff fondly
>t. omer from mmohut
>gonna spend some time, running around, checking this game out, make some good comments
what is he doing these days?
He was doing the same thing more recently but for mmos.com but that was also years ago, dont know.
this is peak MMO
although i think everquest had better dungeon crawling
shit genre but i have 4,2k hours clocked into gw2 so probably that
Pure Soul
For a casual who was always more interested in exploring the world, quests/lore, leveling characters, minigames, collecting stuff, music and not huge on the multiplayer which was often too much of a commitment – Genshin does everything MMOs did better
i hate evrything you just listed
the only redeeming qualities of mmos is multiplayer and loot which no other genre offers on the same scale
Isn't this basically what diabloclones were built on
>not massive
>barely multiplayer/no one coops
>isometric
>braindead gameplay, not even dodge circles tier of trash
If what you said was true, it didnt even come close

t. average asmon fan
go look at some Ashes gameplay and you'll immediately loose all hope there too, lmao.
Looks like a unity game with the shittiest combat imaginable.
PSO Ep 1 and 2/BB

Is it worth playing for a guy who hasn't played any PSO before

Alright sell the classes to me then anon, thank you

For me, it was City of Heroes until it died.
Ultima Online is peak MMO. Pure sandbox. SWG pre-NGE might be #1 but let's be honest the combat really wasn't very good. It reminded me of playing MUDs with the /action type of combat and queuing them up.

troony fantasy cultists trying to force their terms on everyone else is just one of many reasons why I hate them.
Only based post in this thread
Too bad they ruined it
mirin that homie's solo

I miss Trickster Online
It's funny, I always wanted to play this because the guy who made the guide I was following for my sram in Dofus quit that game for Trickster.
MMOs that I like never survive. This market is proof positive that most players are pussies with shit taste.
