only a handful of models have physical backwards compatibility, and old phat models tend to cook themselves to death
emulation on slim models is worse than pcsx2

I lucked out and got a 40nm CECHA01 so I just needed to delid, replace thermal paste and install new caps and I am set.

I may have the only BC PS3 that isn't guaranteed to shit itself.

Eh, on PS3 you get a black bar on the bottom of the screen. Not sure if it's overscan or what but I always thought games looked better when I just used my PS2.

I would disagree, the smoothing feature on PS2 games make them look so much better on large, modern displays.

Doesnt look as good as they do on a CRT but they still look amazing even on my 83in oled.

For me it's more that the pixels seemed off. The text in the MGS3 codec for instance looked smoother on my PS2 and it filled the screen top to bottom.

Weird it looks fine on my 60 gig. May be my tv's upconversion through HDMI? Def looks better than PS2 phat through component.

Again nothing competes with PS2 on a CRT, especially a PVM with component.

I'm pretty damn sure your Picture is the best damn PS2 emulator ever made. The Fat was backwards compatible. too bad the thing only had like a 20gig hard drive. also most are getting so old that they're starting to fail.

      >too bad the thing only had like a 20gig hard drive

This isnt really an issue since you can install a 500gb SSD now for like $30.

ps3 is not even capable of utilizing ssd speed

also, since mc2sio knockoffs are now available on aliexpress there's no point in using anything but actual ps2

          >ps3 is not even capable of utilizing ssd speed

True but you will get the maximum speed the PS3 is capable of and more importantly if you use an SSD on a phat it cuts down on heat.

            >more importantly if you use an SSD on a phat it cuts down on heat
That shit won't save your PS3.

You need to do a lot to save your PS3.

              see

I lucked out and got a 40nm CECHA01 so I just needed to delid, replace thermal paste and install new caps and I am set.

I may have the only BC PS3 that isn't guaranteed to shit itself.

And good luck finding a PS3 with a smaller processor. I saw a 45nm BC PS3 on ebay once and it was $850 and it sold.

                >You need to do a lot to save your PS3.
Agreed. But putting an SSD inside is just about the last thing on the list.

        >500gb SSD
You'd have to be one dumb ass motherfricker to put an SSD inside a PS3.

      >the fat was backwards compatible
those wienersuckers removed the emulation chip when they realized the PS2 was still selling, so there was a brief window where you could buy a fat PS3 that wasn’t backwards compatible. guess which one i have.

it was less to do with the fact that the PS2 was still selling and more to do with the fact that the PS3 at launch was $600. it also was the start of sony having like zero launch tittles

    that's great and all but
    >go to local garage sale
    >get physical PS2 for $20
    >(optional) use OPL to load "backups" over network
    >it works forever
