Accurate.
why is the hunter black
how did you get ceadeus weapons in mh4?
You trade mats at the Merchant
That Particular one is a recolor model from Guild Quests, which are basically diablo loot grinding sims which can give you various reskinned models for weapons that come with random stats. At the upper end you can get shit like 3 slot innate purple weapons with 30 more raw damage than anything you can craft. To get a chance at those however you need to fight souped up versions of monsters.
Monster Hunter fans aalways be out there mocking the dark souls series and elden ring for the rollslop combat but scream KINO KINO KINO KINO at this webm
if you look close or actually played the damn game you would see that the guy is rolling to reposition and more importantly cancel the animation.
you only get a fraction of the iframes from the dodge that you would in a souls game (pre-world), plus the iframes are in the middle of the animation so spamming is not an option.
DS3 onwards was just "spam dodge because its literally the best option always"
I like souls games but face the facts
>le roll to reposition
>le monster hunter is spacing
>the rolls he is doing basically have no I-frames
Are you fricking blind? Look at 0:12 - 0:14
>roll literally NEGATES the tigrex charging at him despite being below him
Looks like MH is right in the alley of dark souls experts
Rolling in Souls is an entirely different thing
Rolling in MH has barely any i-frames without armor skills
Monster Hunter requires spacing, timing and deep knowledge of monster movesets.
Souls has an invincibility button that you've been able to spam since Bloodborne.
>perfect head snipes
>stop making fun of dark souls rolling!!!
take your copium, freak
the rolls he is doing basically have no i frames it's purely to move quicker with your weapon out
that looks easier than tigrex in FU
Molten hits harder and slower than regular Tigrex which basically makes him super easy, especially when using relic shit
140GQ Tigrex is much more difficult
>molten is easier than G2 FU tigrex or 14P GQ Tigrex
Meds, unironically
>small arena
>frickhuge monster
He is only slow at the beginning of the fight. Then he gets faster, even faster, and almost never gets tired. One mistake when he's in rage mode and you die, he was responsible for a ton of carts back then online hence why it was better to fight him solo. 140 GQ tigrex is easy to chain stagger in comparison, and the tigrex in FU's G rank just required you to respect the monster/not approach it like a low or high rank enemy.
Molten Tigrex is slower but hits like a nuke. Similar to Raging Brachydios.
We wuz hunters and shieeet
kek just looking at that shit boxart makes me want to play PSP and 3DS MH kino
I know you can do ip tunneling with the psp to play online, but is the online for the 3DS games completely dead?
>monster just running into an invisible wall for 10 minutes
this supposed to be the best mh?
Does any other game have monsters chilling and being passive like in World? I love just watching Teostra and Dodogama waddling around sometimes.
>I like not playing the game
No and thank frick it's not in any other game
Wilds will probably bring it back too, embarrassing
no, Wilds is probably your best hope.
Gotcha, thanks.
>Best story
>MH4U
seriously why cant they top it
Building up the caravan and befriending the top hunters to the point even their best hunter was fanboying over you was such a fun ride also miss Sophia and Miss Forge and the Carvaneer "Your the one to get it done!"
>"Your the one to get it done!"
Always made me feel like I was really being cheered on whenever I'd read that.
>first encounter with seregios fricks up your rathian capture quest so the caravaneer and the people at dundorma scrounge up whatever money and mega potions they can to let you have a reward anyway
its the little things
Not sure about the monster roster. One of the things I disliked about it in 4U is that you could clearly tell what was ported straight from pre-gen 3 and what was new. There was literally no reason for all the dromes or things like Red Khezu. Regarding the weapon gameplay even without silkbinds a lot of weapons feel much better in Rise than in World.
>hurrdurr HH
>hurrdurr HH
That's important
GU and World literally had the best versions of the Hunting Horn ever and Rise destroyed that
It's one of the losers but I never bothered with HH in older gens cause it was unappealing.
It's very appealing actually frick you
It's a hammer that buffs you and also has a more fun moveset
>that buffs you
Who cares
>also has a more fun moveset
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Thanks for the laugh dude, now get the frick out of the way and sit in a corner playing your gay songs or whatever while the real men bonk the head
Corner horn has not been a real thing since P3rd
I always enjoyed hammer more.
Oh look, one of the less than 1% of people who ever played the weapon.
Keep crying, your weapon was ruined less than bow was.
Old bow was an actual snooze fest, by far the most boring weapon in the series until World. Just stand around and hold attack for 20 minutes every hunt, rolling as needed. Could never be assed to use it for more than a single mission. Rise went too far making it hyper spergy, but I really liked how it felt in World. Stamina management existed and you did more than walk around looking for the best hitzone.
GU's was kind of fine, but I don't know how much of that was the weapon and how much was adept dodging being fun in general.
>reee the weapon wasn't button mashing enough for me, it's was bad
4u started on adding more depth to it, World removed that.
World also made arc shot completely fricking worthless.
Genuinely asking, what depth? What did you do with bow other than walk around a monster and shoot at weak spots? LBG, HBG, and Bow never asked the player to do anything other than point and shoot.
Power shot is what i meant. 3u and prior bow was just "be the right distance away, charge, and shoot" with coating flair.
4u added power shot, which was adding in risk vs reward of sorts with an animation lock for more damage/status.
World threw that out the window by minimalizing that weakness with the changed charge/evade system, yet also added more risk vs reward with dragon piercer which would have been amazing for old bow, but with the new rapidly firing and maintaining charge version made it super weak.
I will say it is nice how the weapon was more unified in that shot type was based on action but it wasn't utilized well enough and you couldn't exactly build for making the shots better due to everything else bow needs.

I'll finish Village in Jaggi armor.
Stun Res and Att Up L is fine.
Rise has Spoiled me
This shit takes too long
one armor for lr, one for hr, and then at the end you start building the good shit. that's how it is buddy
I think I did 30+ hunts for mine. I remember grinding it all day.
i'll play with you
Is 3ds ver with no online.
3ds has local play its essentially multiplayer
I'm not emulating it anon.
I picked it up cheap at the used game store.
I played this with 2-3 other mhg dudes back when it wasn't fullly moronic like 2 years ago and we had a blast.
I think the only thing I didn't like about the game is that you can't realistically jump into hub after creating your character. You need to go hunt g jaggi and arzuros in SP for basic mats.
Other than that the game is fantastic.
can you play with real hardware or does everyone have to be on emulators?
I still have my purple 3ds and CPP from back in the day...
emu only
ryujinx is the only emulator I know off where you can play with a hacked switch
I was in the exact same boat a month ago
I wanted LR Lagi purely for variety, and I did half a dozen hunts breaking horns with no horn drop. I was fuming, especially since I had no reason to bother
do what I did and do lagi helm (gunner because it has more tenderizer), chest, arms, waist and volvi legs so it'll double the skill points on the chest
>Playing mh4u and join a lobby
>Leader is farming g-rank pink rathian, so we hunt her like 20 times
>I get a mantle or ruby each time, meanwhile the leader hasn't had a whiff of the one mantle they need
Felt bad for them, ngl
Yeah man the older games grind is hard to re adjust to after world and rise, I started on Tri so I'm used to it but readjusting after the later installments is rough.
IMO if Worldbabies get filtered by gen 1/2 that's understandable but if you get filtered by anything after Tri you are pathetic as a gamer
Stop, let this be a peaceful thread, unmarred by the tribal autism
MH4U definitely has the funnier dialogue writing
Nothing beats the setting of gen 3 tho, Moga, Loc Lac and Yukumo are peak comfy
3 had best maps, best settings, best music (along with Unite), best hitboxes, and overall had a polish that 4U just doesn't have. I get why people prefer gen 4 but 3 shines so much brighter to me. That being said if we were to get a remaster I'd want it to be 4U. Get that poor game off of the 3DS.

you may think this is a pro but some subspecies are way more fun to fight than their main species. see: brute tigrex
Not to mention that all the Gen 2 monsters just feel like ass to fight in it.
It's more like you're way too strong for them
4U felt a lot more balanced
That's what I mean, they weren't really updated for the newer combat and just slapped in there.
they struggled with the verticality of 4U as well. GU just made it worse.
true, but the fact that it manages to have such a massive roster despite not only filling it to the brim with subspecies is definitely a plus.
And for every Brute Tigrex you also have your Blue Kutkus, Ruby Basarios and Berserk Tetsus, so less subs isn't necessarily bad.

the only problem with Tri were the uppity frenchmen, but even that got WAY worse in 4U and onwards.
Best part about Tri was that the moronic metagays were filtered by the low monstercount, swimming and the wii in general, so after a year it was just chill people left.
>swimming
I really enjoyed swimming in tri yes it was awkward but it made fighting monster interesting Plesioth and being able to chase the fricker down when it retreats into water was fun.

>HUNTER YOU ARE TOTAL NEWBIE BUT YOU ARE CHOOSEN ONE THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DEFEAT THE DEMON WHO CAN POISON WITH IT'S VIRUS ENTIRE REGION

because 4u is literally the only one that even has a story, plus the progression of going through the different villages is nice
most other games just had
>dude theres this big bad flagship mon thats causing trouble
>grats you beat it, but actually there was an even bigger badder final bossmon that was actually the problem
not saying its not literally the same in 4, but at least they dressed it up a bit
4u had drama; gore magala felt like a real rival who levels up and improves as you do throughout the story. Unlocking different locations as quest progresses and seeing all different and quirky settings felt like an accomplishment. let's not even start with the hilarious dialogue and loveable characters.

Agree on everything EXCEPT GS mechanics
Tackle is pretty divisive, but it seemed like the only way GS could go if they were ever planning to move on from extremely predictable monsters
I like surge slash a lot
Surge slash is fun but it's basically like a whole other weapon
Isn't it just another counter? Never used it.
It's a completely different moveset bro
No. It's a 3-hit combo string that replaces draw charge.
It's basically the opposite, turns the GS into a no-thinking pure ungabunga weapon.
The animations on Surge Slash look really good, so I'd want it to stay just for that alone.
I like how if you delay third overhead enough the hunter lets go of the handle and punches it down, very cute
It is. I'm a big fan of the third Triangle+Circle attack. It actually looks like you're fighting with a giant slab of metal.
Worldmons are the most predictable they've ever been, and gen 4 GS could have easily dominated them.
Surge Slash Combo and Power Sheathe are the only good gen 5 GS changes(I also prefer rage slash because it doesn't look moronic)
What's the one with the best weapon impacts sound? I just played World and Rise, and Rise's weapons sounded a bit like hitting with a wet noodle next to World...
1st-2nd gen and GU
Pick any pre-world MH, and you'll have god-tier weapon SFX. They actually sound like they are digging into flesh rather than striking steel plates.
All that, yes, but switch skills in Rise are a thing that needs to be in all MH games from now on

from what i heard it was alright. But you needed to farm for like 100 hours to even get a single weapon or something.
But frontier had inflated prices for weapons anyway. I remember needing 3 gems from 2 different mons (that i could barely beat) for my first G-rank upgrade.

It's kind of weird how far the devs were willing to go to make super versions of monsters without just making more rare species. Like there was almost a decade between molten tigrex in 4 and violet mizu in sunbreak. And despite this, gold and silver are in every fricking game, even in the ones where subspecies are generally avoided.
I honestly don't find any of the big siege monsters any fun except maybe Gog and Dalamadur
I honestly liked most of em, especially since they were a nice change of pace.
The only ones that i genuinely hated were Lao, Crab and Dire Miralis.
Well Zorah was an absolute travesty too if we include world.

I'm replaying World on PC and man the faster load times and being able to turn off the shitty haze that was on everything makes the game like 50% better. Just about to fight Brach and I'm really looking forward to it.
I have no idea how people could play World on consoles. https://youtu.be/HDq56GF-i_A?feature=shared
It took two minutes to get into a quest, only to kill a monster in five minutes. Half of your playtime was loading screens, unironically.
Also, I know some people don't care but it should've been a 60 FPS game. PS4 is more than fast enough to achieve 60 FPS with decent graphics. Same with Rise on Switch.
What does MH4U have for Greatsword that other games don't?
I'm sorry, but if you're actually claiming that the fricking dark ages of portable monster hunter was the best for literally anything you're not even trying to be honest.

lol what is this gay fake narrative you're spinning? the 3DS games sold very high before the age of nu-monhun
The dark ages of monster hunter started in 2005 and ended with World?
They also restarted with Rise according to him.

Monster Hunters part of the guild only hunt problematic monsters that are fricking up an ecosystem. There exists poachers though.
Monster Hunter games are not even playable without twin stick controls.
It's a neat gimmick and all, but not necessary
Playing world and holy shit the weapon models are garbage. All my favorite weapons from the past games are gone.

Why did they greenlight this?
it gets slightly better in the dlc, but base world was 90% of the time just monster material slapped on metal or bone.

Odds of comunity servers popping up after the official ones go down?
pretty sure there are community servers for every other game including the first one, so chances are good
my cope is we'll get ports to steam and every other console
they even managed to bring frontier servers back so i wouldn't worry too much
Servers when?
Unironically just play Frontier dude.
It has some of the best monsters, best weapons and it doesn't look like one of those NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN memes
Some basedschizo revived the frontier servers and now it's available on vita again. Maybe I should dig it up again
Yeah it has been for a while now, that screenshot is from june 2022 i think
but i didn't know it was also available on vita, i only played it on PC and you can actually run a private server yourself
frontier filtered me. it honestly just felt like a romhack of FU that was inspired by GU and the amount of fricking content makes GU look barren, its way too much. i get that its an mmo but still
i got filtered too but honestly because it became too hard to solo.
i needed a gem of some Grank mon to upgrade my weapon that i could only beat half the time and the quest itself took 30-40 minutes each.
But i genuinely loved the game. Highrank Teostra in that game is still my favourite version of it and the Shantien Quest to get into Grank was really well done too.

I've started the series with MHF recently and I genuinely do that.
Ah yes. The MH Claw
You guys remember when Black personcom waited like 2 fricking years to even announce that MH3U was gonna be released in the US?
This was right after they skipped the objective peak of the series (P3rd) and cancelled legends 3.
Remember when MH4 was going to be JP only and we had to wait another 3 years for 4U?
Remember when they cucked all of us and skipped the vita, forcing us to deal with a 240p screen and absolute shit controls?
I remember.
This was also the era when we would constantly miss out on handheld games due to shitty companies not localizing or cancelling them because of iphones or some shit.
I was in highschool then, and I remember just being so mad constantly.
When they FINALLY released that fricking MH3U demo I played it over and over for like 20 hours just because I was so damn excited to play a new MH already.
But even back then I recognized how shit the experience was compared to the PSP.
>much lower screen resolution
>smaller screen in general
>position of the dpad made it impossible to claw, you had to deal with a "lock on" or the shitty touch screen dpad
3U looked OK but 4U just looks awful on real hardware, sometimes it's honestly hard to make out what's going on.
Even back then I remember thinking how dumb it was that I had to buy a circle pad pro when I didn't need anything like that on the PSP.
MH3U + CPP was a nearly $60 purchase, I had to save up kek
all they need to do to fix their mistakes is to rerelease all the classic games on modern consoles made for one screen and a HD resolution with working online crossplay
no anon you will play world and you will enjoy it
they did it for street fighter they could do it for mon hun for the 20th anniversary
>objective peak of the series (P3rd)
Bros the 4U servers shut down in april
anyone wanna start a new game and get to experience the game fully one more time?
4U was fricking shit. Roster that is 80% gen1/2 chickens and other moronic shitmons AND the absolute WORST fricking maps in the series. Even disregarding the fricking ledges they are ugly as frick and a chore to navigate whilst also being shit to fight in. Need I fricking mention the Sunken/Volcanic Shithole debacle? Weapon balance was also wack, CB and IG got overtuned, mounting was easy and overpowered, Hammer and GL were fricking shit etc.
The only people who think 4U was the best are the people that started with 4U.
this
4u is also when all the flippy bullshit started and gimmicks like riding (glorified qte) were forced on players
>the absolute WORST fricking maps in the series
Rise exists though?
The only “people” who don’t think 4U the best are moronic contrarians and assmad worldgays
>the absolute WORST fricking maps in the series
world maps are infinitely worse tho
World has one completely awful map in Ancient Forest, the rest are fine to even actually good.
4u maps are filled with obnoxious design elements like that one cliff, the zone with all the fricking vines, etc.
Rotten Vale is pure garbage. Coral Highland fights take place way too frequently in shit areas. Wildspire and Hoarfrost are ok, Elder Recess here and there has garbage gimmicks like the crystals dropping from top in area 15 so yeah obnoxious design elements.
Rotten Vale is great, homosexual.
Coral only has minor annoyances like that one highly vertical area where Namielle and Pink Rathian like to go
Elder Recess only has that one annoyance and it's only an issue for Nergi and the metals.
Rotten Vale is pure garbage. Top is circular with one linear way downwards. Monsters constantly sit on each other with Radobaan being one of the biggest offender here as it would enter a zone, roar and then frick off again to its previous zone to repeat this cycle every 30s. There is barely any zone that is really enjoyable to fight in. The Fog is just tedious even if you know about the fire pots. The music is great but you couldnt enjoy it in either World or IB as in World you constantly had Bazel overwriting it and in IB the majority of fights added there also had unique themes.
Coral has the issue of the monsters like to hang out at the bottom of the cliff, at the top of it, and then the very top of the mountain.
they somehow made ledges even more obnoxious in world and they made the maps be full of them. hate that shit
>now have to play slippy slide to use my weapon optimally
thanks I hate it
There's barely any World maps where you have to fight around ledges nonstop except Ancient Forest and maybe Coral Highlands.
Nearly every single 4U arena has ledges and a good number of the maps force you to climb between upper and lower levels of a map in the middle of the fight while a monster is attacking. Take Ancestral Steppe where the only zones that dont do that are 3 and 6 out of 8 zones where you can fight (and those still have ledges). That's not even counting bullshit like tilting arenas or how like World does you have to spend an excessive amount of time climbing from one part of the map to another
What is this meme, the only actually annoying map is ancient forest while elder’s recess is ugly as frick and boring. 4U is actively dogshit.
>fighting monsters that would dip between those two shitty zones in volcanic hollow you know the ones I’m fricking talking about
The worst part isn’t even the ledge vomit everywhere it’s that fact so many arenas are on a disgusting 40 degree slope
While typing this I also realized doing the trek up the coral highlands to the legiana nest in world also sucks but that’s not even as bad as that middle zone to the upper nest in ancestral steppe
Any ccp enjoyers? I still have mine.
Hori extended slide pad user here. That was the comfiest MH control scheme I've ever used.
Memories coming back. I remember when a friend brought up the cpp, I also saw that option when doing research. I recall thinking it was dumb as frick. Glad it worked out for you. I bet you also use esdf instead of wasd.
It's basically the PSP claw grip if it was actually comfortable. The handgrips themselves are also much more ergonomic than the CCP to the point where I also used it as a general purpose 3DS grip.
I had both of these
I never did console wars, I just bought whatever had MH
i remember importing mine from Japan because it was literally cheaper than trying to find it anywhere local
still sad it didn't work for the new 3ds and you had to use that stupid nipple
Don't care.
Anyways I am replaying MHFU. I am not getting rid of my Low Rank Kut-Ku armor. I will kill Akantor while wearing it and make Dark Akantor, and then wear that through all of Guild High Rank.
Now that the dust has settled and the asmongold worldsperms moved on to the next fotm I’m glad that narrative of muh gen 4 bad is dead and buried
That shit was absolute cope. Nobody who actually played the games thinks 4U isn’t the absolute pinnacle of classic MonHun. Best story. Best iterations of weapons. Best maps. Best roster. Best flagship (gore, but steve is top 3). End game gimmick that is tied into the setting. Best aesthetic, not weeb shit like p3rd.
Apex and Guild Quests were both horrendous gimmicks and 140GQs made elitists run absolutely wild.
Mounting and the Maps being fricked over to cater to it was also bad.
Dundorma was also easily the worst hub in "classic" monhun.
>140 GQs made elitists run wild
I don't understand what you mean by that
People would oftentimes instantly kick you if you weren't running the newest metagay set in my experience.
Hell they would kick you for the most mundane shit

Perfect implementation of using the fact that you know it’s a 3D game. Not only gameplay wise but aesthetically. Literally a good and logical expansion of the series, for the exact opposite look at the complete flops that are swimming and wire bugs.

Sounds interesting, what's actually weeb about it other than being a Japan-exclusive?
My only gripe with 4 was introducing mounting cancer and making the new weapons way too OP

You spelt MHGU wrong
I like this one
I'm pro-annoying ass elder dragons that need specific armor skills to be dealt with.
the Chameleos->Kushala->Teostra Triangle was always cool to me
Chameleos was also annoying enough to justify making a set with anti-theft/anti-poison for it
I feel like making monsters require their own sets to comfortably fight them is a great incentive to experiment with sets. Sure, I'll still play MH for a thousand hours even with the crit meta dominating everything, but having to build sets with monsters in mind would up the diversity. Anti-specific-elder skills should stay as set bonuses so you can't gem them out.
i wish the crit meta wouldn't exist at all
i wish there wasn't a meta at all or at least not so many metaslaves.
I've made specific sets for mons before, but even with a specific counterbuild you are still doing half the damage of a generic copy paste critset
i feel like Anti-specific-monster skills would also be not a great idea since it would always be the obvious choice, but it would be at least better than one set for everything.
I dunno. I'm not a game designer, I'll leave it to the pros. I just wish they'd tone down the over-reliance on crits. All the weird alt-playstyle gimmicks in Sunbreak are great, but crits are still too strong and accessible.
Even old games had a meta people simply didn't look it up as much. The thing with counter sets in modern games is that stuff like anti-poison is very easy to socket in so you don't need to make a specific set anymore unless it's something like kush winds in world that only can be countered by the kush set which is shit game design honestly as you cannot get the monster counter without farming the monster itself.
yeah thats my point
it went completely off the rails starting with World with people just looking up sets on youtube before playing the game themselves
looking at tierlists to know what weapons to use
one of my old monhun lads was absolutely obsessed with these TABlack folk and would only ever use the sets they said were best.
frick when i was playing 4U i didn't even know i could charge the shield on my CB because i would only ever look up elemental weaknesses at most
don't get me started on the whole new skill system. Endgame sets in 3U literally had 3 skills and we liked it damn it
We had filth like gaijinhunter before but at least only the most garbage of players watched his shit in the first place
I saw a lot of people in 4U using the Honed Blade mixed set for endgame he suggested. The thing is back in the day his videos were pretty much a collection of what japs did as the games released there much earlier so he just had to read around, translate it and put it into a video. Only with World it became obvious that he's actually a complete shitter as it was a global release.
half the stuff he just translated was also blatantly wrong information, so he was already a shitter back then
I only really remember his honed blade set for early endgame and the kinsect upgrading guide. For anything else there were other resources.
wasn't he also the one who popularized the Bulldrome+Jaggi set in Gen?
I admit the Kinsect guide was pretty good, not like the game explains it to you.
>Endgame sets in 3U literally had 3 skills and we liked it damn it
????
On what planet?
Not even going into autistic speedrun min/maxxing territory, you not even exploring the full moveset of your weapon or the possibilities you had in making sets penalized you a lot in the form of wasted time. Unless you were always playing MH in full hunter groups to never feel the time loss. Soloing the endgames of FU, 3U and 90% of 4U up to 140 GQ WILL make you want to optimize, that was my experience at least. I didn't have to look up anything on the internet to understand that having Focus, tremor/wind res, Earplugs and Crit draw with the occasional evade if possible using GS would make my life significantly easier, even in low rank guild quests. That's the kind of thing you should pick up naturally as you progress and hit roadblocks or just want to be better in your hunts, I was 11 when grinding to make "perfect sets" in FU. No one needed moronic e-celebs to seek optimization in monster hunter.

started hunting with world because consoles in general are pretty gay
are 4U and Frontier fan favorites?
i want to check out the previous entries
FU, P3rd, 3U, 4U, XX are all good in their own right, with their own gimmicks.
Frontier is the game you play when you are done with the rest because its MMO Autism
It is also quite a bit harder than the rest.
cool, thanks for the answers
a word of advice for a gl/hh main?
From what I understand GU has a great HH, with a good variety of competitive styles to choose from. GU’s gimmick is you don’t just choose your weapon you also have a style and hunting arts. GL I’m pretty sure is shit
GU HH felt like shit with all arts besides basic.
The arts were laughable too
Just play GU you can get a taste of the whole series, only really “missing” underwater combat
4U literally flopped and is only rated in the west due to 3ds manchildren, so if you’re a pokeshitter it may be to your liking. Personally I would go with 3U, FU, or GU
Frontier is chink mmoshit.
>tried mhw
>didn't like any of the weapons that much
do I just power through until I like it? What do people generally enjoy about mh games?
You find the one weapon that clicks and make it your own, if none do then the series probably isn't for you.

GU’s roster is actually pretty awful. On paper it looks great due to the sheer number but in practice you fight the same 15 monsters. They do an awful job of spreading out the hunts. For example in high rank hub you go from fated four + gore key quests with a Steve urgent and best rank is fated four duo quests + magala urgent. It’s actually one of the worst rosters in practice, if not the absolute worst.

Frick no. A few weapons started to improve here, but either improved much more in Rise or were worse than older games. Lance is one of the few that I'd say really hit a good stride here and Rise didn't improve on so much as adjust.

hopefully you meant for cemu, i know theres a citra one as well but too lazy to find it
Why the frick is it for EU?
idk, theres literally no difference between the EU and NA version of the game though but they do use different save formats so i guess it'd suck if you already started a save on an NA copy of the game

Najarala is such a fricking shitmon I refuse to believe anyone actually likes it. Oooh it's whole fricking body is a shitzone haha isn't that fun. Watch out for his two fricking attacks guys! That's right he is slowly coiling up and you have been sent flying by an invisible shitbox, enjoy!
Replace Naja with Zammy
I miss tigerstripe.
R O U N D
Fricking blight Rajang pretty much pulling a continent and hurling it at you was funny as hell.
I enjoy 3U and 4U the most. I definitely appreciate FU but I do feel like I've slowly lost my appreciation and ability to tolerate and enjoy some of the jank. I think XX is good and I appreciate that it did something new but I would say that's where my enjoyment started to decline. World & Rise are cool for introducing the series to some of my more casual friends that I enjoyed playing with, but I really miss the more RPG/collection/progression based gameplay of the older games. New games move so fast and I'm not super keen on the anime triple backflips and "gritty" tone - especially in world
>anime triple backflips and "gritty" tone
Yea that is a weird combination
Rise isn't even a return, since it still washes out the color and contrast and doubles down on the zoomzoom
yeah I simply don't get it. I know everyone has their own opinion but I really think they perfected the formula between 3U and 4U - especially visually. I loved the sharp colors and drastic fantasy designs. All the new mons in world especially felt like washed out jurassic park stand-ins and the splendor and magic was traded for gen 7 military shooter brown n bloom
Well World was their big Western push and everyone knows Westerners only want to be srs bzns
4U is still surprisingly active online. I'm gonna miss it. I play every day. Idk what I'm gonna do.
I bought a n3ds XL last year just to play mh4u on og hardware, now I don't know what to do when the servers go down.
Surely Pretendo Network will pick it up. R-Right?
They do have some 3ds games listed, so maybe if we beg them enough?
Would be sick if it could get crosstalk with citra and allow for crossplay between emu and 3ds
Fricking based
I want Akantor back in wilds can I get an AMEN
*clack*clack*clack*clack *BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH*
That's Agnaktor dumbass, not Akantor.
To be fair both should return.
>its another monster jumps behind you and instaslams you before the camera button can snap to the monster episode
Literally Glavenous's favorite trick and why I hate fighting him. Especially because it nails you with fireblight when he's powered up.
I started with Tri and like any monster hunter honestly. As long as its MonHun I'll enjoy it.
>its another monster jumps behind you and instaslams you before the camera button can snap to the monster episode
>its another cant dodge in the actual direction you want due to the camera so you hop to the side directly in front of an attack you could have otherwise dodged episode
>its another monster hitbox being huge as frick despite visually not being hit and seemingly had dodged correctly episode
>its another monster frame 1 walks forward and knocks you over repeat 5x episode
>its another mounting the monster yet holding the R button doesnt actually stop the gay rampage so you get knocked off despite holding it and even pressing it multiple times while its happening episode
this game pisses me off to no end when i play it but i cant fricking put it down
the 1 frame memecharge is honestly core monhun and i wouldn't have it any other way
Goddamn so many shit opinions in this thread
3dsbabs are disgusting
I liked world, but didn't really enjoy rise as much mostly due to how dominating silkbind moves were. Which older game should I try?
4U or 3U/Tri
Don't touch GU because it has the exact same problem of over relying on special anine moves
FU
P3rd
Frontier
4U
Stay away from gens
Maybe Dos or Freedom 1
Frontiers and Tri /3U are the peak
I see, guess I'll start with 3U/tri and go from there then.
I'd still give gens a try it has monsters in it that you'd be missing out on
Removing swimming and not improving underwater combat was a mistake we lost Gobil, Ceadeus and Dire for it and Lagi and Ludroth took a nerf for it.

I agree on roster but boy do I hate rise’s weapon mechanics, swap skills are cool and all but wirebugs were a fricking mistake
I hate anything that involves some stupid glowing shit taking up most of the screen over and over, and I really hate MMO cooldown skill shit
I also hate how they gave 80% of the weapons a way to stun and counter monsters. Really made every weapon feel more homogeneous.

There's no reason to play 4U when you have GU.
MH3U had charm, but the underwater fights sucked.
also 4U had the wystone cancer
I never understood why GUgays feel the need to say this shit whenever people want to talk about 4U
It honestly feels like 4U catches all of the heat from Worldgays and XXgays who want to LARP as series veterans. People always had issues with GQ autism but there wasn’t really a vocal hatebase until Fivers took over the fanbase
I started with FU tho
>People always had issues with GQ autism but there wasn’t really a vocal hatebase
Because GU and World both have objectively better endgames than 4U? And because the fanbase grew in size after GU and World so people returned to older entries and of course found endgames in FU and Tri/3U more palatable than grindy GQ autism and Wystones.
You frickers just had Stockholm's syndrome because you started with 4U. Probably thought the series should have always stuck with low res cheap shitty plastic and seethed when it went back to actual consoles too kek. 4Uniglets get the rope
You missed out on the peak era of the series and the last time the community on Ganker wasn’t insufferable dogshit
Cope, seethe, have a nice day, and go back to fondling Anjanath balls while shitposting about Rise sale numbers
Oh anon. Ganker was shit even before 2015, and it was definitely shit in 2014. You really should've tried to cling to the oldgay credentials and said 2009 or something
I'm sorry being born in 1999 and only discovering Ganker in high school is such a point of trauma for you, but it doesn't make the fact MH4U is complete shit any less true
there are always morons who are going to shit on everything
we are still on Ganker and are approaching US-primetime after all
every single game in the franchise pre-world is good in its own right
Agreed, except 4U
>honestly feels like 4U catches all of the heat from Worldgays and XXgays who want to LARP as series veterans.
That's how people who started with 4U often behave.
What was your go-to armor in your first MH game bros?
For me it was basarios.
Barioth in 3 because evasion+2 was amazing for a shitter like me
Agnaktor with Evasion, Guard+2 and Guard Up for lance
If you like it so much why aren't you playing it rn?
They should make a PC port for MH4U, especially since the 3DS online is dead now.
Yeah they should, but they won't. Just #returntoworld goy- I mean guy!
Is GenU a good ship to hop to when 4u dies? I played a bit of base gen and liked it well enough.
GU has the majority of its content aside from shitty 1st gen recolors, Mohran, Gog and Dalamadur (which does suck tbh, Rebellion set is one of the best designs in the series).
GU really does supersede it in a lot of ways, same with FU to some extent, though at least FU has Yama Tsukami and a lot of lost 1st gen designs. People will shit their diapers, but there really isn't much reason to stick with 4U over GU.
Thx. I remember really liking all the nods in the base gen. I heard GenU really loads it in. The styles overwhelmed me a bit but it was neat.
I want to say 3U is the best but it doesn't have Rajangs or Tigrexes
I don't think a best, definitive MH exists. Which, personally, I would say is a good thing. I'd take it over purely iterative sequels. But also 3U is my favorite.
Rank em.
