So, I never played the PSP game, but I disagree. As much as Suikoden 4 is clearly unfinished (and is why you play it with Tactics which helps complete it), it still had a lot of strong elements that made it enjoyable in a way Tierkries was not.
But, honestly, every game in the series is a good JRPG. It's a great series.

Thank you for sharing a glimpse of the game. It looks nifty. I played the original Suikoden I and II when they came out. I think this game has potential, but there is a lot of ground for it to cover.
There's a little bit of a hitch when opening up the inventory menu.
Using potions on party members in menu takes like .25 of a second too long to start, kinda throws me off.

Is it just me or do the character designs look, well, mostly awful. The samurai girl, Mio, is the only one really grounded enough for me to think is actually 'cool'. Not that Suikoden always didn't have it's share of lame characters, but the ratio isn't good here. There's also some monster lady in the back with massive bazongas that I think I like, but doubt it's my brain doing the thinking with that one.
For me it's 50/50, which is not the worst in the series (4 was mostly too boring, 1 shows it's age, tierkreis is too unfocused)
But it's not as good as 2 or 3 and a bit below 5 (brought down by the MC's main costume making him look like a fruit).
Most modern jrpgs look like rpgmaker trash. Studios need to hire artists that hand draw characters and know how to create interesting color palettes. It’s always “this character wears all red and uses fire attacks” “this character wears all blue and uses water attacks”. It’s juvenile and uninspired.

Anyone else having this issue where the character portraits after battle are really aliased and look just bad. Can tell if it's because I'm playing it on a TV and the resolution is just too high.
Can you even buy it? I thought it was just for me kickstarting it.
I just grabbed the beta this morning and I just got to the main town (presumably). Feels like it needs to be tightened up on the dialogue and there should be something about the damage display. Like when I use the Friendship attack, is it doing 36 damage or more than that? That's an easy thing to address though - like a text popup that shows total damage done would do wonders. I've seen people on the Twitter account complain about the encounter frequency, but it feels like a PS1/PS2 era rate.
Looks like the Fisherman quest is bugged: If you talk to him, he gives you a Bamboo Rod. I went to the fishing spot near the village and the character tried turning around, but gave me another Bamboo Rod.

They definitely went a little overboard with the "quirky" designs this time around.
Suikoden was like this also, 3/4 of the cast was awful filler characters. only a handful were useful, unique or memorable.
