The supposed point of Bethesda RPGs is to be immersive, but things like Freezing Flamer and Healing Fat-Man in FO4 are as gamey as it gets.

Bethesda games have always had items that possessed stats and shit. In Morrowind you can enchant a sword to make you fly.

A lot of the weapons and armours you find off random enemies and chests will give you a roll of a weapon based off certain modifiers just like how Fallout 4 does (which is where they even got the legendary effect system from anyway). You didn't think the random elemental weapons you find in random chests and enemies wasn't literally just that or something?

The whole "modular gun" aesthetic works really well for me. It's great world building; logistics continue being the largest unsolved problem, transmitting goods is so expensive the manufacturing of goods has had to meet the needs of logistics, and cubic designs inherently utilize space better than cylindrical designs meaning you'll end up with a better economy of scale by producing goods that most likely have to meet some logistical regulatory standard.

Assuming they're still using a similar equipment system as Fallout 4, mods should be able to add new categories with some UI adjustments.
Might be the case that Categories only appear if you have stuff for those slots. That "total inventory" screen is missing a Misc Items category, which no doubt would be a thing in a Bethesda Game.

I'm gonna tell you guys something, and for some of you this may feel like a revelation and for others it's probably obvious as shit. Most artists and designers don't use real knowledge or studied references in their artwork, and instead their entire visual vocabulary is not based on real life things. Instead, everything they reference when trying to design something, is art that was created by someone else. Most concept designers don't know how a gun works, nor do they care. Because they're not looking at a fricking VP9 or Desert Eagle or MP5 and understanding what it is and why it looks like that, and then using that as a framework to extrapolate from. Instead they're looking at gun and tech designs other artists created for other projects, and just assuming that as long as it looks slick and cool, it's all good.
It's the same with armor, same with robots and tech, same with creatures and monsters. It's why around the 2010s, every single monster and creature just starts looking the same, because they were all products downstream from the creators they learned or cribbed from. Being original requires being clever AND knowledgeable. Being employed usually just requires getting stuff done fast, even if it's unoriginal or wrong.

That's not an ejection port, seems just that they cut a hole in it to shave some grams off. You can see the real one where it's supposed to be, facing right as god intended.

For what fricking purpose would you skeletonize the grip side pieces? You're gonna skeletonize the thing your hand has to hold, making it uncomfortable as hell, but you're not going to bother cutting metal off the chunky slide (except for that one random hole that kinda looks like someone didn't know what an ejection port is and just assumed it was a funky hole they cut in to look pretty and the placement doesn't matter).
Also I have no idea what the chunk of cage-y square metal in front of the slide is supposed to be. Again, it's like someone looked at a chunky muzzle brake, but didn't know what it was so they just thought that putting a chunk of metal in front of the barrel for looks is the cool way to go. Whatever that is would neither help brake the gas venting, nor would it disperse the flash, so I don't know what it's supposed to be.
Also what is that giant fricking door-handle looking lever on the side? And where is that wire supposed to be running to that it needs to be wrapped around the whole frame and back behind the grip? What, is there some sort of battery pack or some shit stuffed in there where the magazine should be?

Whether or not you find the concept of a breach-loaded shotgun using caseless ammunition ridiculous is another matter, however.

It's space game and the gun have pressure lock which mean it's actually a cannon, if you asked me to design a "shotgun" that work in space I would do the same thing, it's silly in the same way lever action guns are but some people are into that.

Honestly the designs are not bad for bethesda, except they have a tendency to make everything too wide when you are viewing them first person. I just hope they don't do that shit where an auto weapon does a quarter of the damage per shot as a semi-auto, to "balance" it. I don't need balance in a single player game.

Well think about oblivions spellcrafting for example. Thats a lot of fun to play around with. Or combining multiple enchantments in skyrim.
Or think about Crysis and it's "on-the-fly" weapon modding. In a tight corridor? Switch to full auto and remove the scope. Need to make a longrange shot? put on scope and snipe away. No trips to the workbench(tm) required and no carrying 20 guns around required.

They should have at the very least the functions of actual weapons and more besides. Energy weapons for example should have the ability to adjust output - small shots, fast firing / recharge, or turn it up to a big blast, slower recharge, overheating etc
