Kain being mind controlled is a way more interesting story than him just being evil.
Golbez being mind controlled is necessary to set up Zemus as the one behind everything since Golbez is too much of a jobber to be the final boss.

Wasn't Kain only susceptible to said mind control to begin with because he was jealous of Cecil and wanted Rosa's heart? Sounds more like a story of temptation and a fall from grace to me.
Yeah. Things didn't go back to normal for him in the end, either. He just kinda fricked off, being ashamed of how weak he was and probably not being able to face them being happily married as king and queen until he got over it.
It was uncommon back then to show that not everyone gets a happily ever after.
>It was uncommon back then >every guest in 2 dies >some random character no one cares about in 5 dies >Aeris dies in 7 and then every human also dies after the end >8 is an eternal time loop of suffering >Vivi is set to die like a month after 9 >Tidus dies in 10
He’s not wrong though. XII was ok story wise and I like Ivaerlice as a setting but the gameplay feels like a solo mmo. XIII mostly seemed to involve killing everyone in a given corridor ad infinitum. I’ve not played XI or XIV and I can’t remember XV properly except thinking that they ought to drop the FF label by this point and just make an “inspired by” OG setting.
I've never understood the hate for the Pixel Remasters. The only downside to them is adhering to the original games too much and not including remakes' postgame content.
Wasn't FF7 already out by then? I remember trying 4 and 6 out on one of those PS1 collections at the time and it felt very "we have FF7 at home" but without the interesting setting
This game has like zero gameplay depth
There is nothing you can do to build your party, so the only gameplay is mash your strongest attack -> heal -> repeat.
I played the pixel remaster of 4 and I didn't like it. If we're talking about FF 1 - 6, I think 4 was the weakest one for sure. I'm not sure how much the PR changes, but 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 were all much more fun than 4.
Too many fake out deaths; death loses any sort of impact
Later in the game once you've seen it over and over, someone "dies" and you just say "ok, see you in an hour"
I only played the DS version which I loved so I'm always briefly confused by people saying it was too easy, especially if you don't mess up your augments. The final dungeon in particular was a fricking nightmare where every random encounter hits like a truck with status effects out the ass and ONE (1) savepoint.
The original jap FFIV was balls hard to the point where they released an easy type version for the nip audiences who complained about it. People think the US FFII was the easy type version, but it was not. It was somewhere in between. FFIV is easy because it just kinda is, unless you're playing the original nip version that busts your balls.
>main villain was actually being mind controlled the whole time
>your brother betraying you was also mind control
Story was ass
Pretty small thing to get assmad about. It’s an enormous adventure with so many widely different segments to it.
It's 20 hours long max, it's shorter than III and V. Not saying that's a bad thing tho.
Sure, and the fact it fits such an odyssey into that span is definitely a positive thing
>It's 20 hours long max
Not if you play the intended way with the Complete version

ok boomer
True, zoomers be seethin doe

Not that version of it.

>16, 15, 14, 13
>better than the worst games in the franchise
Ok.
i wanted to make this exact post like 5 minutes ago but captchas+this website suck troony dick now
Anon I think the point is that the series is garbage and has been for a long time
>Japanese franchise went to complete shit after the PS3 released
Brave and stunning commentary.
So true
The point is 4 can't compete with anything below 11 except MAYBE 2 and 9
>no mention of V
FFV stay winning.
OP already went back 20 years, the franchise is dead as frick
>FFV stay winning.
Everybody forgets V by default because it's boring shit.
XIV is overrated for sure but calling it one of the worst in the franchise is simply contrarian. It's at least mid-tier.
I've played 4 a couple times (I just like final fantasy man), and I never really got the hype for it. It's mid in basically every sense.
it was a big deal in 1992
Wasn't FF7 already out by then? I remember trying 4 and 6 out on one of those PS1 collections at the time and it felt very "we have FF7 at home" but without the interesting setting
>DAE like classic game?
only remember the map theme
still needs a remake though
This game has like zero gameplay depth

>better than FF10
OP is correct, even if the intent is to shitpost.
SNES FF > PS2 FF > PS1 FF > NES FF > Everything Afterward
>Final Fantasy jasn't been good since the early 1990s.
Checks out
than FF16
no.
than FF15
yes.
than FF14
no.
than FF13
yes.
than FF12
ehhhh close but yes.
than FF11
11 sucks.
It gave us Rydia so its pretty good for just that.
DS > PSP
>worse than FF10
>better than FF11
You were so close, but then you had to say some dumb shit like this.
100% correct.
For me it's
V > VI = IV > III > I > II
Then
VII > IX > VIII
Then
XII > X
Then
XVI > XIII > XV
You may not like it but different eras are not comparable
>fake death every time
>It's another episode of cuckee Kain being possessed
>final boss is literally a weird ghost or something who knows lol
FF tactics is the only good ff
1 > 14 > 10 > 9 > 13 > 8 > 15 > 4 > 7 and that's it, I didn't play the others
Midnight moron
>13 above 6, 7, or 4
>15 above anything
I did not stutter!

>3 and 1 over 4
Frick off
SoP > IX > VIIR >= VII > IV > XIV > IVTAY
That's all I've played.
Strength?
Respected
Cecil becoming a paladin is one of the best moments of the game.
Too bad they never remade it.
BETTER THAN THE SALAMI
BETTER THAN THE BOLOGNA
BETTER THAN THE DUNDA
very overrated videogame
>better than 16
no
>better than 15
yes
>better than 13
yes
>better than 12
a little bit, yes
>MMOs
not mainline
>16
>Good
16 isn't even a Final Fantasy you goddamn moron.
There haven't been any Final Fantasy games since XIII. It was a piece of shit, but at least it was a piece of shit Final Fantasy.
Nothing after 8 is real Final Fantasy
>fake out deaths, the game
nah
Too many fake out deaths; death loses any sort of impact
Later in the game once you've seen it over and over, someone "dies" and you just say "ok, see you in an hour"
Does playing Vagrsnt Story add much for Tactics/12 lore? Been playing it as of late, also share some tips for it.

4 was the first Final Fantasy game with a story
Nothing that came after XII even enters the equation. A good list is a list where XII is at the bottom.
Is there a single FF2 fan out there?
