I think the original DS version has soul, and Wii was a fun multiplayer romp. Everything afterwards feels corporate and sterile as frick, riding off the coattails of what they consider "safe."

They're 2D platformers, it will be impossible to tell until you've played them. Wonder definitely has more talented artists and developers working on it though.

They gotta develop too fast to worry about things like polish. Sonic games are made on a shoestring budget with minimal staff and a short dev cycle, that's just how SoJ rolls. That's how basic shit like Tails and Knuckles having proper super form designs still isn't a thing after 30 years.

Mania's animation are the usual classic style stuff. Nothing of note or any improvement that makes this a sensible position.
You haven't played the games, Mania is a huge improvement over the originals animation-wise.
It's more like you're either projecting or delusional. Mania's gameplay animation is almost universally like-for-like. Little special animations in and intro or outro are far and few between.
The framerates are higher and the color palettes are bigger.
At least the level design in Wonder will probably be good. Sonic Superstars looks like it plays itself.

Wonder looks great, but I don't like how Mario does the Sonic run with the Sonic side mouth. It's also a little uncomfortable how they didn't reveal Wario and Waluigi as playable characters yet.
