I'm just wondering how long is bf4 going to last at this point and if there's any point in getting it as of now. The lifespan is the question.

There are already custom server projects for BF3 and most definitely will be for BF4, check out Venice Unleashed. Think there's a reality mod being developed somewhere as well
EA shutting down the master servers will do jack shit - hell people are still playing fricking BF2 to this day using BF2hub.
This. Embrace the chaos and PTSD and just play bf1. It has an equal amount of homosexualry but the easy by which you can annihilate any vehicle gay is incredible.
Also, the maps are the best they have been, I'm serious BF1 dlc maps are the best in the serious, unironically
