      >anybody would make LotR RTS
I guess bigger problem would be finding audience. LotR is not 100% niche subject, but golden age is long gone. For both franchise and RTS. Also no one really wants to touch either WB or Tolkien free real estate. I wonder when we hit the point when people will earn for more classical fantasy in their genres. Or at least more TBS/RTS games.

The balrog was so fricking OP in mp (in the first game)

      >turtle whole game as Isengard
      >tech up until you can spawn a balrog
      >bring army to enemy base
      >pop a balrog outside the walls, fly over the walls, get off one fire-breath attack against his buildings and chop at them a few times before you die (this will destroy a few buildings every time)
      >rinse and repeat

Literally nothing the opponent could do since your base was unmolested and defended by walls, and he loses the attrition war because he gets such large interrupts in his unit production

there's some minor inherent lag, probably due to some spaghetti code in the engine somewhere, but it's nothing game-breaking, In fact once you start playing it, you might not even notice it. During all these years I've had only a few game crashes tho, but still i don't think it's necesary to remake a dead game

NTA. But I think it's fine, a bit bland for my taste. But I always prefered war of the ring style more.

It has some neat graphical features like grasses that bend as your units walk over them or water that ripples when you hover your mouse over. But after BR blew my mind with its revolutionary unit training and abilities mechanics, WotR just so generic in comparison.

No, it doesn't. Just like Empire at War doesn't need one. I don't really understand why people are hyping those graphics mods so much when they aren't really adding any new content. Especially since they will get c&d sooner or later.

Old anti-piracy stuff had a tendency to be programmed with no future proofing at all, so they just don't work with newer Windows. Hell, sometimes they are so fricked they won't work even on old Windows because your components weren't on an approved list or something dumb like that.

I still play the second game and it's really good and has some high quality great mods with age of the ring and edain, my problem with edain being that it requires a cd, real or emulated, at all times, fricking German autists went overboard with pirate protection in a free game that can't even be bought anymore, and yes I solely blame this in the fact that devs of the mod are German.

That's my jam. Don't really care that much about Harad but the Lothlorien stuff they've teased is great looking. Wish Erebor didn't use the dull Hobbit designs though as the vanilla game's designs had much more soul.

        Anonymous

Personally I'm excited for Harad cause i love easterlings to the point where i play mordor but with easterlings exclusively, also based, I'm not the bugest fan of hobbit movies myself, i mean aesthetics are cool i guess so I don't mind but still

          Anonymous

Aren't they still going to be saddled with Mordor aside from the chariot summon harad gets? I think I saw somebody with too much time on their hands trying to make Easterlings an independent faction on their discord. The stuff they showcased wasn't up to par with Age of the Rings standards, but if you don't get your fix with Harad then you may want to check it out, that is if it actually manages to release. Regardless, Easterling aesthetic is top tier and you are an anon of taste.
          >i mean aesthetics are cool i guess so I don't mind but still
I think they did the best they could with them but most of them are too dull for my tastes. BFME2 did a great job with the dwarf designs IMO and I just find myself wishing they had stuff similar to those instead.

            Anonymous

            >Aren't they still going to be saddled with Mordor aside from the chariot summon harad gets?
Yes actually, i made a classic mistake where i defaulted to calling all human factions who follow Sauron easterlings out of convince, Harad is a southern faction, and i haven't heard about that submod actually.
            >BFME2 did a great job with the dwarf designs IMO and I just find myself wishing they had stuff similar to those instead.
That is true, regular BFME 2 desigs are more vibrant and interesting compared to Hobbit's typical metallic and a more generic approach.

Like 10 years ago, I somehow helped make BFME2 a thing in my local PC-cafe.
It was great, most were playing it, especially the youngins. Squaring off against brutal AI in coop was great; we'd play together covering eachother as the AI would usually focus a single player steamrolling ad infinitum. So the others could focus on eco and reinforcements. Crazy battles that lasted all game long, an eternal meat grinder. Using dwarf to AoE ragdoll all the models was beyond epic.

Both have almost equal amount of downsides and upsides imo

    BFME1
    >Better, more interesting campaigns. That switching between tactical/rtt missions where you mostly have only heroes from Fellowship of the Ring to the typical rts where you command entire armies as Faramir/Eomer was great in particular. Also Ian Mckellen and Christoper Lee VA
    >Units carrying between missions is great too. I don't remember if that's still the case in nonRisk campaign in BFME2
    >Walls on which you could put units
    >Siege units
    >But no free base building
    >Only 4 factions, Dorfs and Elves don't have theirs, and not to mention absence of more exotic ones. Rohan and Gondor are separate

    BFME2
    >All around more content
    >Unrestricted base building, but walls are now Age of Empires style fences and no dedicated siege units like laddermen
    >More factions, Dorfs and Elves have their own, but Rohan and Gondor for some reason got merged which is dumb as frick
    >More fanfiction in faction design which does give them more room for better gameplay, but campaign isn't as cool and feels like bad fanfic.
    >Character creator is nice
    >Risk style campaign map is very simplistic but it's something to give meaning to otherwise pointless skirmish battles
    >Still alive modding community

I think I prefer BFME2 mostly because of the last point. I think Edain even goes back to BFME1 restricted building style with functional walls, so it's basically BFME1 gameplay on BFME2 engine. I never tried it though, because I couldn't get it to work on pirate.
Age of the Ring seems more in line with BFME2 gameplay and is great as well. Also devs of this mod are hosting clean pirate version of the game to download from their forum and mod works perfectly fine on such a version.

2.02 is just a patch and works the same as any other version, blame EA's spaguetti code, the engine has the lag, unless you re-do it from scratch it will continue to have lag

        Anonymous

I know its a patch but I consider it a mod because it added a few troops and changed the power trees or how some power work(blight), not that I disagree with the change.
I did notice a considerable difference between official 2.01 and 2.02 in multiplayer though

          Anonymous

2.01 was a mess, blight used to be worthless, there were many unused units, I know many guys who left after 2.02 became a thing but I think it had to be done, also it focuses on balancing instead of just adding stuff that's why i don't see it as a mod, but still who cares about technicalities
