>they need to fire their art director
3D art director specifically, holy shit. Akiman’s designs are getting raped once they translate it to 3D, Akiman doesn’t deserve this.
>nobody asked for another one.
Frick off, I've been waiting for the next Star Ocean since 5 and thought sure as shit we'd never get one after the mobile game hit it's EoS. One of my favorite schlock JRPG series.
What do I need to see.
It's another Star Ocean game.
You'll start off in space (probably) and end up stranded on a planet that has medieval era technology, and 30-40 hours later you'll finally finish that planet and MAYBE go off to a second planet home of the bad guys that were responsible for everything bad that happened on planet 1.
There will be a complex skill and crafting system, and the combat system will be pure octane action.
I don't need to watch some 30 minute JP stream that isn't going to tell me anything I don't already know or won't give a shit about until the game comes out (like character names or designs or motives)
homie xc2 hit mainstream and sold a lot, how could they not have a budget? meanwhile the last 2 star oceans were complete flops and tri-ace is probably on debt to make this game
And the 2 Xenobldes before 2 flopped and lost money as well, and Nintendo historically does small budget games, the budgets are probably comparable with Xenoblade having the one advantage of having inhouse tech team, the actual character art looks fine for Star Ocean, but then in game the characters look like shit, this is what using Unity or Unreal? it looks like it because they have clearly put no effort into the materials, meanwhile Xenoblade built everything from scratch, thus they tailor made the individual parts to match, funniest part is using a out of the box engine isn't much cheaper than doing it inhouse and if you want to do something serious it ends up more expensive.
that's a long ass post about shit you made up in your head

You don't save shit using Unreal or Unity unless you are an actual indie studio, if you are a professional studio you are losing money using Unreal or Unity for anything other than prototyping gameplay.
Xenoblade X sold less than half a million units in it's lifetime, it was either PS2 budget or it lost money.
The original Xenoblade maybe made money, but it sold less than X, until Definitive Edition where it's combined lifetime sales would be now close to 2.

lol of course you can. Nobody outside Square and maybe today's Atlus budget JRPGs with the expectation that they'll sell millions. 600k or whatever it did is more than enough to justify more games.
They SERIOUSLY couldn't get a better team of 3d modelers? In the whole fricking industry? There are cheap chinese and korean freelancers making better stuff that would kill for a big profile job
Same. I also wanted X to have some way of flying and air-fighting without a doll when I played it, and SO6 actually has it.
Hopefully the game is at least decent, looks interesting.
>After the last one, they want me to put more money in to this shit pile of a game series.
The best thing about the last one was the optional DLC battle music from Valkyrie Profile.
It is the one JRPG i could not find anything nice or good to say something about.
It fricking even soft locks you at the final boss.
Out of all the series Square continues to put money and faith in, why Star Ocean of all things? They have so many dormant series that are lucky to even get shitty looking remakes like Front Mission
Square is almost certainly not the one footing the bill here. tri-Ace itself wants to make Star Ocean games. They just don't own the license so they have to ask Square Enix to publish it, however reluctantly.
Also, this is probably tri-Ace's last chance, all things considered.
tri-Ace is owned by some random ass JP mobile games company.
They're not an independent company anymore, so this idea that this is probably their "last chance" rings false. Especially in the wake of how awful 5 sold and how quick the mobile game hit EOS.
>so this idea that this is probably their "last chance" rings false. Especially in the wake of how awful 5 sold and how quick the mobile game hit EOS.
How the hell do you come to that conclusion that that should be hopeful? Those are very bad signs.
Star Ocean ruins itself not only by terrible writing but also taking place in a futuristic settings but has the story take place in primitive environments. Its lazy and anti creative.
Where in the frick is my Second Evolution R port you clueless frickwits.
And where's my SO3 HD remaster port?
Those fricks need to pull their head out of their ass and release 2 and 3 to modern hardware.
Watched the whole stream and it actually looks... pretty good? The updated faces are more VP2/RoF style than SO3-5 (and thank god for that), MC is fricking jacked, the armor girl is not a shitty moebait, Elena is hot, the combat looks cool, and there seems to be a bit more sci-fi than SO games usually have.
Oh boy, cant wait to get teased about some huge intersolar system conflict then get confined to Magic Renaissance Boonies XIV for 3/4ths of the game because its apparently where every plot important event happens
I never understood how Fayt and most of the cast's 3D model faces looked just fine in this game, but Sophie's looks absolutely fricked. Trying to give her a cute squished "uguu" face really didn't work so well.
Anonymous
I think she's kinda cute, but yeah I know what you mean. I think even Fayt looks kinda weird depending on the angle and lighting. Depends on how flat the face is more or less. Cliff looks perfectly fine for instance.
Also, I fugging hate parts of SO3's localisation. It's really good for the most part, but I hate some of the name changes? They should've just left his name as Fate Linegod, spelling it in a moronic way was never gonna obfuscate his super meaningful MC name. I get the censorship of biblical names, even if it's a shame.
>Is the dlc actually good? Not really. It added a bunch of new bosses that were pretty fun, and because they structured the story in an episodic way they were able to write some fun little stories that focused on those characters - even Eldrie gets some fun little scenes where he tries and fails to compete with Kirito for popularity. But overall it didn't really propel the story forwards at all - it just gives Kirito an in game canon second sword to dual wield with. The final DLC is supposed to wrap the gamiverse story up which is pretty worrying to be honest.
Also if you want to play the DLC you have to grind like a mother fricker even with the level boost otherwise the chapter bosses will push your shit in. So if you just played the MSQ of original release and stopped you're kind of fricked until you go grind up some decent weapons and upgrade it.
>thread is about Star Ocean >>HEY GUYS CHECK OUT XENOBLAD >>HEY GUYS CHECK OUT SAO >>HEY GUYS CHECK OUT THIS OTHER NON STAR-OCEAN GAME
Frick off and go back to your own threads you colossal homosexuals.
I don't understand why Tri-Ace chose to do another SO given how badly the last one did. They would have done better to go make a game with another IP they owned and developed like Valkyrie Profile.
>looks wienery
His voice and body match but his face is too young it's weird when they zoom in.
But maybe that's part of the lore like the cyberpunk (not CDProject game) where everyone looks young and pretty?
5 is the only objectively bad game in the series, and that's mostly because midway through development they were told by their bosses that the game needed to be able to be completed in 20-30 hours because people don't want to play 50+ hour JRPGs anymore.
This caused massive issues with the story, and they had to scrap a lot of the existing cutscenes due to them being too long. And as a result of having to scrap a bunch of existing cutscenes we were left with "player direction" where there was no direction in cutscenes and the player was able to run around and emote while the "cutscene" was happening.
It also resulted in the story just kinda...ending on a very unsatisfactory spot just when you'd think the story was in it's apex of the 2nd act.
And yet despite all that, the combat system and the skill system is the best the series has ever had, and some of the characters in 5 (mostly Fidel and Emmerson) were way better than they had any right to be.
I wish SO5 were ported to PC as well so I could give it a go, I gave up consoles with the PS360 generation.
I ran through the series again just last year after seeing the reveal for SO6, emulating The PSP versions of 1-2, SO3, and I picked up SO4 on Steam to see how well I actually remembered it when I played it on PS3. And SO4 was fricking great from beginning to end. A lot of critiques regularly levied against it back on the original release (with the usual showing of the same two or three comedy skits) were honestly bullshit, kay.
>midway through development they were told by their bosses that the game needed to be able to be completed in 20-30 hours because people don't want to play 50+ hour JRPGs anymore.
Would personally shoot those people in Minecraft because beating the game in under 20 hours was a big part of why it was so shit. Felt incredibly rushed, short and insubstantial. No time for anything to develop or progress, the game is just over after what seemed like just the first act of any normal RPG.
Chrono Trigger, FF4, FF5, DQ1-6, Phantasy Star 1-4 and many more gloriously amazing JRPGs are under 30 hours.
The reason modern day JRPGs aren't that short is because they're all bloated to hell and back with fully voiced dialog for practically every text box. That shit takes substantially longer to listen to than it does to read through.

Goddamn
I thought the weird porcelain doll 'anime if he real' no shaders look was a 7th Gen console problem that would have stopped with SO4
What the hell
I didn't realize how well Tales was handling the transition to HD in comparison
I guess that is just the Star Ocean aesthetic now
>I didn't realize how well Tales was handling the transition to HD in comparison
This.
Stupid rivalry between fans of the series aside, Tales having a way better record in translating the designs into 3D is an objective fact. Tales of Arise characters are the exact same between 2D and 3D, shit, I hope Akiman works on a Tales game now.
That it is a trend and that they are capable of doing otherwise tells me it is 100% intentional
This is what Star Ocean is supposed to look like, 2 was a fluke because it was a 2D game so it couldn't have StarOceanFace
I love them too. Well, in SO4 they don't look so good, mostly cause they literally can't emote, but in 5 the characters looked great.
I like the realistically-lit 3D CG anime look they do in all their games. It's like playing with PS2 FMV CG graphics, it's cool.
Plus it's less straining to look at than other JRPGs with millions of bright colours.
Xenoblade been getting worse graphic wise since Xenoblade 2. I want to believe it was due to a rushed development with a skeleton crew considering most of the team was working on Breath of the Wild, but Xenoblade 3 looks like it has the same problem considering it's been in development for years now.
Also there's that the artstyle is shit, but what can you expect from Saito? Takahashi only hired the frick because of one medicore anime film from 2014.
>Xenoblade been getting worse graphic wise since Xenoblade 2.
That's hilariously subjective, the lighting and character models alone in 3 shits on X and 2
3 had one of the worst plot twists in the history of games and it made me hate the series.
It's the same bullshit as going to beat up a vague godlike entity who wanted to kill everyone because they didn't like the way that their creations turned out. The final battle is even the same old, we don't need you because we surpassed what you planned/intended and became something more.
The problem with 3's ending isn't the twist, it's the ambiguous "did they or didn't they?" ending that triace will never expound upon. So every new star ocean game has to be a prequel to 3.
Star Ocean never actually numbered their titles officially, only some trailers and fans run with numbers, this new game for example is titled "SO6" in the Japanese reveal trailer but officially once again it isn't numbered, Star Ocean always runs with different titles, not numbers.
Speak for yourself or at the very least stop pretending that angry SO2 fanboys speak for everyone. 3 is consistently rated in the upper half of the franchise among its players.
Cope you're the one who didn't play for agreeing since lymle was in 4. He said kay because she always said that and westoids were seething at the time.
>Look up the gameplay video >It's just Tales Of Berseria with its god awful AP system
I'd talk about the game if it was worth talking about.
Might go back to play SO4 instead I guess
Its easy to care about games for the sake of games when you don't have to worry about your favorite character type/tropes being systematically removed from them because the developers on the other side of planet can't stop listening to twittertards who can't separate fiction from reality.
And you know that its westoid twitter pandering because they also have two brown characters front and center on the promo art. Sure, Star Ocean has had brown party members before, but these things come in pairs.
When a Japanese dev wants to pander to the west they replace the e-girls with minorities or furries. Its been this way for a few years.
i dont speak the language but from the video it
seems like they use a kinda ff7r combat system which would be pretty amazing, star ocean games always had better combat systems than the tales competition.
Wonder if PA and character endings will be making a return. They've been a standard for most of the series, so it would be weird if they weren't back. I hope they don't pull a SO4 and just make it so maxing out affection just leads to an extended epilogue for said character.
Star Ocean will always be that thing that people confuse for Phantasy Star and Xenoblade even if Star Ocean predates Xenoblade. It's a marvel that this franchise is still alive
It looks decent, but I'm still skeptical after what happened with SO5. Prerelease, everything looked like it was on point with SO5, but then it came out, and the game was bare-bones and super short, and didn't even really have proper cutscenes.
I really hope that isn't the case with this game, but they've been showcasing tons of proper cutscenes, so that gives me some hope about it.
Lmao, it looked like a shitty Infinite Undiscovery reskin from the start.
SO6 looks just as empty and generic as 5 for now, I wish someone would try to do the crash landing plot like Jet Force Gemini did where every character is unique and mandatory to explore new places instead of just being a tool to increase your DPS
SO5 was such a let down I just can't get hyped, even though I've been a fan of the series for decades. Like, I'm glad it's not dead, but I'm really reserved about having any excitement after what we got last time. Not super feeling the character designs this time either, feels weird we play the chad of the game and the lead girl is the same sort of moe blob as like the pink chick in 5.
> lead girl is the same sort of moe blob as like the pink chick in 5.
I mean, at least this time she doesn't stick out like a sore thumb like the pink girl did in SO5. The Pink hair girl wasn't even designed by Akiman since apparently the dev team threw her together because they used her during the testing phases of SO5.
Although 5 was trash and I would hope they learned from their mistakes, the fact they still haven't done anything about the atrocious 3d art design is worrisome
lazy devs get to work
if even noname studios can churn out good looking anime fighters on Arcsys engine (Granblue, DNF) then an RPG is doable too. Time to justify that $60 price tag
We cannot be complacet with PS2 looking models on PS5 hardware
No, lazy and pure incompetence, shit made for the PS Vita like Cold Steel 1 had 3D models that were faithful to its 2D designs and had cutscenes for the most trivial insignificant shit for 60 hours, and that shit was as low budget as Falcon titles used to be.
Tri Ace are like SNK they cannot into 3d. But they can't do a 2D game anymore.
[...]
it's not my fricking problem, AA devs in 90s busted their asses to make games look as good as they can, stretching the technological limitations of the time

>now we have the best tools, engines and hardware there has ever been and suddenly it's "muh budget", "it's gonna be a short game"
It does come down to budget because modern development costs millions compared to costs in the 90s. The big problem with SO5 was the fact that it had no budget and it had no development time.
>90s devs busted their asses to make games looks as good as they can
No they fricking did not.
"90s devs" made the surface look pretty and cut a frickton of corners. Everything just below was almost always a ugly fricking mess both technically and visually, not just because of "limitations" of technology but because they had deadlines to meet. They didn't have the luxury of pushing boundaries; on the contrary, they were constrained by the limits and most of their time was spent making shit even function and fit.
It has little to do with budget; "budget" implies money. The actual fricking budget that matters is TIME, and with little time the envelopes you push and limitations you work around have to do with making things look "good enough" in the places people will focus on.
The modern tools to make games have made it "easier" but also way more time consuming, which is why the typical dev time of a year or so has extended to 4+ years. And it isn't just because the assets and code they're working with is an incalculable many more times complex than the 2D and 3D of the 90s, but also modern games have way way way more fricking content. They are putting in way more fricking effort NOW than they have ever been.
You ever wonder how that extra time is used, why game development time went from months to years? In most cases, a majority of games are "feature and content complete" very quickly, the following several years is spent on adding minor features and polishing up the game again and again and again.
Unlike a fighting game, an RPG like Star Ocean has a LOT more fricking work to do than design and animate a dozen or so characters in a flat fricking box with backgrounds they don't interact with. Guilty Gear has the luxury of being able to focus so much on their character animation... but you don't even have to look far to see those corners that were cut. Open up the fricking story mode, look at those fricking animations and not-main-character models.
rpgs cost waaaay more money to produce than fighting games anon they are basically the most expensive thing you can make in video games for both single player or multiplayer
Arcsys 3d doesn't work on actual action games that lets you rotate the camera. It looks good on 2d fighting because they cheat a lot and actually deform their 3d models to make them look good and anime-like on side view. Hell they don't even implement "3d animation", more like they use 3d models to create each animation frame 1 by 1 and carefully tweak every detail then run it like traditional animation. That's impossible to do on an actual 3d rpg.
Star Ocean will always be cool but I'm still sad we will probably not gonna get existential kino like SO3 again, at least not anytime soon. And generally in JRPGs.
Ok, the game is confirmed to have the usual shitty 3D models that frick up the original 2D designs, but will it have actual cutscenes at least? SO5 had only 5 or so actual cutscenes amidst the dozens of events where characters just talk while traversing the map.
They need to change their art direction.
Go for semi-manga aesthetic like the new Atelier games or Xenoblade 2 and the remake.
You cannot have kawaii ugu~ faces with a normal renderer.
It's also pretty bad port for as far as settings go and controls for M+KB users. The controls config menu doesn't explain the mapping for all actions and mouselook doesn't work for camera movement. I was forced to exclusively use keyboard for slow ass camera movement and general controls
SO6 looks as bare as SO5 was, but now the zones have verticality to them it seems, anyway SO5 was a PS3 game in Japan, I don't think SO6 could be any noticeably worse on the PS4 version.
>getting tales of arise vibes from this
Arise had incredibly faithful 2D to 3D design translation for starters, I'm not seeing that in SO6, quite the contrary in fact.
>getting Tales of Arise vibes
There isn’t a gay-ass stagger bar for enemies/bosses so far so it already looks to be better. Plus big guys have hitstun.
>I like how it looks
That's on you, if you have no standards so be it.
>not everything needs to be ultra AAA
Who is asking for that? Competence isn't tied to budget, Nihon Falcon is as poor as they come and they make good use of their limitations to deliver visuals faithful to the art direction of their titles.
>did you even see the battle system? of course you didn't
Nice baseless assumption there, nothing to say about that since as shit as SO6 looks the combat seems nice, but that won't make turn a blind eye to the ongoing problem of terrible 3D art direction.
>deliver visuals faithful to the art direction of their titles.
That IS what they're doing though. Just because it doesn't look like Vita-tier anime garbage like Falcom's shite doesn't mean they're not realising their art faithfully.
All tri-Ace media has proven rather controversial, with the sole exception of Valkyrie Profile 1. (And to a lesser extent Radiata Stories, but Radiata Stories was a little too low profile for controversy.)
I'd argue most of their troubles come from PlayStation. Star Ocean 3 was a mess on PS2 because of Sonys outdated libraries. Star Ocean 4 and 5 had to work on PS3 and needless to say the hardware was a disaster for most third parties.
SO2 and VP1 aren't controversial. They're as safe as you can get, being PS1 2D sprite shit. And you just know most of these nostalgia frickers have no clue how skills and item creation in SO2 or anything at all in VP1 works.
not really comparable since it seems to be turn based (by the suikoden guys)
but this.. this battle style really impressed me somehow. Seriously look at the two videos.
It looks like it'll be SO2 style where the other protagonist still joins the party. It's just a matter of viewpoint and probably specific events where the selected protagonist is elsewhere.
Square Enix was fully onboard with Star Ocean 4 which ended up being a megaflop. tri-ace then went on to make a couple more experimental titles that flopped and loss their good graces with the company.
Star Ocean 4, despite some very questionable decisions, was at least a full on entry in the series and wasn't a beta version that was released as a full game like SO5.
Honestly it WAS pretty bad, I don't think the main cast had a good character in it, aside from maybe Faize who fricks off towards the end. Lymle wasn't even the worst thing in it, i'd say that goes to Sarah. Thanatos was pretty hilarious though.
You have to take into account that when SO4 came out it was effectively every trope western players hated about japanese games in a generation where there was massive push from western devs and journalists to take a larger share of the gaming business. While the gameplay itself was adequate, it did itself no favours at every other aspect. It also came out in 4 discs lol
Pretty much yeah. The gameplay is pretty amazing if dumbed-down compared to SO3, but it's the character designs and writing that drag it down.
But honestly, nowadays you have games like XC2, Persona and Trails which offer moronic cringe aplenty but people love that shit. Maybe it was just the wrong place and time for SO4.
No, so4 is still embarrassing as frick but it's pretty and fun so whatever.

SO4 is cringe at all times. XC2 has a solid dub and most of the peak anime is buried under Blade quests. For people who just played main story it kept itself proper outside of a few scenes.

>XC2 has a solid dub
No, the first game had a solid dub. 2's dub is fricking terrible.
>It also came out in 4 discs lol >Post-game bonus dungeons are on Disc 3 >Any time you want to go back to your ship to do item crafting you have to go back to Disc 4
>SO4 is anime as frick to the point the director admitted he just wanted to direct a dating sim >The deal with Microsoft made Tri-ace to try and westernize a game that was Japanese to its very core
It was a weird time.
>Two protagonists >Sci-fi vs fantasy >Lots of different environments unlike 5 >Already more different character attacks than in 5 >Four character battles so it isn't a clusterfrick of visual effects vomit and stun resisting enemies like 5 >Blindsides are back in some form
After 5 I didn't think we'd ever get another game, let alone one that's actually good. Hopefully they bring back PAs, 2's skill system, item creation, and character endings too, even if there's a reduced cast.
>Never gets court martialed or reports to Moonbase about his massive naivete-induced blunder with an (alternate) earth
SO4 plotholes will never not be funny to me
that was the most moronic twist in history >your party members are a cyborg from a super advanced civ and a space elf from a race literally dedicated to safeguarding technology >the only one that tells edge its a bad idea to give them that tech is the dumb e-girl cat girl
Its even more silly considering the party literally enters a military facility engaged in unethical experimentation with xenobiology. And you spoke with a former scientist wary of importing and using potentially dangerous advanced alien tech. Nothing about any of that said Edge should've trusted her.
But I guess you could chalk it up to Faize and Bacchus just orbiting and trusting a then wide-eyed Edge a little too much.
Faize is the third party member you pick up who joins in the fight against the first boss and Bacchus joins in the Cardianon mothership, Both events happen before they get wormholed to not-Area 51.
I think the anon is referring to faize as a space elf though in SO4's context isn't correct.
The cyborg is an actual space elf who got just replaced his body and is of the same species of the space elf character you're probably thinking of (pic related)

> a space elf from a race literally dedicated to safeguarding technology >anon thinks this was referring to Faize
I'll never understand why this game gets so much shit and especially why so many people gave Edge shit after he was responsible for Alt-Earths destruction.
I thought it was incredibly well done personally, the dude is chipper as frick and read to go, spouting goofy ass one liners in battle all game but once all that goes down he's practically silent in battle and out of it.
There's a lot of little things SO4 did right that none of the other SO games did, but for some reason people completely wrote it off.
Yeah that's the most sensible characterisation anyone gets all game.
Star Ocean is pretty good with that sort of thing in general. Like most of the characters don't act like moronic anime tropes, but that in turn is most likely why they're not as popular.
Most JRPG players are complete morons though and can't appreciate a level of groundedness. To be fair though, it doesn't help that the way Edge gets himself into that situation in the first place is pretty dumb. I guess you're supposed to assume that the evil American nazi lady at Area 51 doesn't come across as shady at all in-universe.
>Like most of the characters don't act like moronic anime tropes,
The part where Raimi slaps edge for suggesting she go down a ladder last or something was something else. She's not even wearing a skirt.
>Star Ocean is pretty good with that sort of thing in general. Like most of the characters don't act like moronic anime tropes, but that in turn is most likely why they're not as popular
To be fair, they do. Like, they really, really do.
But almost all of it is relegated to the private actions that nearly all players skip out on. In fact, a vast majority of the character development happens in the private actions. It's always hilarious to me when people b***h about the characters in SO being bland and having no real authority or story other than helping the main dude do what he needs to do. You can tell those idiots didn't actually do any of the PAs and just B-lined through the main scenario.
Well, you're right, but it depends on the game I think. I felt the characters were pretty grounded all-around in SO3.
In the other games you get stuff like "X character has a silly obsession with chocolate" or something. Those types of cute anime quirks.
But in a way it's also kind of a strength that they're all business during the main plot and don't have time to meme about stupid shit all the time.
>In the other games you get stuff like "X character has a silly obsession with chocolate" or something. Those types of cute anime quirks.
That only really applies to Ashton's barrel fanaticism in 2 which was both an Atelier reference and also only seen when talking to him in towns and not during any story bits.
The Second Story/Evolution is one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it's so ambitious that you can't help but admire it. Everything after that has been pure trash.
Series died with the dumb shit in 3. Also every fricking game starts off with cool sci-fi shit and instantly slides into the fricking toilet with bog standard fantasy garbage. All that made 2 fun was the battle system.
>SEXO girls >cool dual protagonist angle, proper scifi vs medieval clash >small but interesting innovations to gameplay that's always been good
Please don't be shit. 5 burned me too hard.
The last time I played SO2 something new I found was with this NPC in the second town. She just paces back and forth and has whatever dialogue, but if you stand in her way for a few seconds she moves off to the side with the angry emote and her dialogue changes to her telling you you're in the way.
>Remove all the shit that makes star ocean iconic >Bunch of optimization issues >Dog shit tales of arise-esque looking system
But worst of all are the character designs.
Notice how in the combat they always cut away after a character mashes their basic attack and does ONE special move. That close range/long range bullshit gameplay from SC5 is in the game. You essentially have only two specials at close range (Ground or jump) and two at long range (ground or jump). This is awful.
>That close range/long range bullshit gameplay from SC5 is in the game. You essentially have only two specials at close range (Ground or jump) and two at long range (ground or jump).
Anon...
Ok, that's a lot better than I'd thought. It looks like they took notes from Tales of Arise and now every character plays like Alphen. If you can cancel Press moves into Hold moves fluidly, then the game might be decent.
they need to fire their art director
I haven't seen character models this ugly since.... ever actually.
Look at capcom games then or square enix's forspoken.
the art was fine but the fricking models are shit
>they need to fire their art director
3D art director specifically, holy shit. Akiman’s designs are getting raped once they translate it to 3D, Akiman doesn’t deserve this.
Jesus Christ these are images from a NEW game?
can I play as old Raymond
Last Hope was so fricking bad that I really don't want more Star Ocean.
'kay
Loved it. Tri ace are amazing.
That was my second favorite SO game.
Did the little girl saying kay ruin your life somehow?
F 1 L T E R E D
(Don't worry I made sure you can see this reply even if you're using word filters)
I still seethe over Anamnesis.
Maria is my wife.
Excellent taste.
You mean it shutting down, right? Because it was the best SO game in a long time.
Yes, I loved it and played it daily.
Same, its probably the best mobage i've played in a long time.
I haven't enjoyed star ocean since second story.
are you moronic? SO3 was fricking great.
why didn't SE just let the franchise die?
nobody asked for another one.
not even that nearly naked lady from the last one could sell it.
>nobody asked for another one.
Frick off, I've been waiting for the next Star Ocean since 5 and thought sure as shit we'd never get one after the mobile game hit it's EoS. One of my favorite schlock JRPG series.
You have bad taste. Probably because you're stupid
tri-Ace wants to try their hand at it. I assure you, Square Enix is not out here commissioning it; they're paying for SO6 with the Anamnesis money.
I thought it was going to look worse I'll get it.
>ps4 game
>graphics look worse than xenoblade 3
what went wrong?
No budget
Xenoblade has no budget, man this game must have negative budget or something, or maybe no in house tech team, that goes a big way for Xenoblade.
homie xc2 hit mainstream and sold a lot, how could they not have a budget? meanwhile the last 2 star oceans were complete flops and tri-ace is probably on debt to make this game
Kek you're literally arguing made up shit in your head. The engine is not announced yet but the game literally looks like just an upgraded star ocean 5 which was made on their in house shitty engine.
Just shut up moron, you don't know shit.
Holy shit, so they are Falcom tier, what a joke.
falcom used sony proprietary engine tho
I remember reading an interview or at least an article about an interview and they were talking about the old engine developers using an inhouse engine, but new devs wanting to just use Unreal.
unreal5 is the holy grail of engine.
every game on unreal looks the same and I'm fcking tired of it
>shitch version
OOF
apologies the other pictures i found are all webp
It's alright, as long as you understand.
webp converter addon
come on, you cant be tech-illerate on Ganker mate, wise up
converter or literally just open it in paint and save it as png,jpg or whatever
pretty sure all falcom games starting from cold steel use phyre engine
Only CS and TX do. Ys VIII and IX are on Yamaneko, and Kuro is on a new engine which looks very much like another version of Yamaneko, but I'm not sure.
Didn't they talk about building a new one, whatever it is it's really bad considering how okay low destail graphics but then performance problems out the butthole.
>And the 2 Xenobldes before 2 flopped and lost money as well
They factually didn't
Either X lost money or it was made on a PS2 budget.
It was the Wii U, but I can't argue
lol of course you can. Nobody outside Square and maybe today's Atlus budget JRPGs with the expectation that they'll sell millions. 600k or whatever it did is more than enough to justify more games.
if they don't have the money to make a good looking game they should just dissolve the studio and fold the people into other groups or let them go
Nah that's for pussies, real men sell their house for a dream.
the battle system looks 400x better than integrity and faithlessness and the main character seems like a bro even though his model looks like shit
ded franchise
>Valkyrie Elysium x Star Ocean
Wow 2 dead franchises
>Gankertards arguing and baiting each other in chat
i shouldn't have made this thread
How are we at a stage where devs are so incompetent that they can't even translate Akiman's designs to 3d?
Star Ocean has always had terrible 3D models compared to the 2D designs.
They SERIOUSLY couldn't get a better team of 3d modelers? In the whole fricking industry? There are cheap chinese and korean freelancers making better stuff that would kill for a big profile job
Wasted design. I'd be furious if I was the concept artist.
Its weird that a mobile game had the best models in the series
>he posts the relative good looking 3D model
ingame she literally looks like a doll.
doesn't express any emotions whatsoever.
i dont remember correctly, but i think there was a lore reason for that, her growth was stunted because of magic or something like that
Aside from the medieval fantasy stuff, the game reminds me of Xenoblade X. I like it.
Why don't they get the guys who make the battle system and put them in like... any other project
>amazing gameplay and music
>shit everything else
Tri Ace alright, I’ll buy it
Model look slightly better
i dont fricking care about xeno can you fricks stop talking about it
talk about spaceships instead
Nah, I'm taking all my copium and migrating to your franchise until Xenoblade X2 comes out.
Wanna talk about PSO?
>talk about spaceships instead
I thought Star Ocean is a medieval fantasy JRPG
It is "advanced society travels to less developed civilization, people from both places travel back and forth" instead.
Assblasted cuz chad doesn't look your way? homosexual
Anamnesis was a great looking game, but when TriAce goes console everything looks like shit
Where in the frick is my Second Evolution R port you clueless frickwits.
And where's my SO3 HD remaster port?
Those fricks need to pull their head out of their ass and release 2 and 3 to modern hardware.
Second Evolution R is only in japan
SO3 HD is only for PS4
Watched the whole stream and it actually looks... pretty good? The updated faces are more VP2/RoF style than SO3-5 (and thank god for that), MC is fricking jacked, the armor girl is not a shitty moebait, Elena is hot, the combat looks cool, and there seems to be a bit more sci-fi than SO games usually have.
Oh boy, cant wait to get teased about some huge intersolar system conflict then get confined to Magic Renaissance Boonies XIV for 3/4ths of the game because its apparently where every plot important event happens
MC actually looks and sounds like a wienery chad, non of the feminine betacucks in xenotrannies.
rude, Lora might be a tomboy but she's a cute
nu-Xeno games wish their MCs were this swole.
Akiman is such a god. His talents are really wasted here with how badly they've translated them to 3D.
Xenoblade 3 MCs looks so fricking bad even C-tier games like Star Ocean are mogging them
Frick the Xenoblade Ethics Committee
There is no way this MC will sell in Japan, they hate chads.
Buyin'.
they pilot and henshin into robots, they don't need to wear a diaper like this MC
>shitty Evangelion rip off
That's all Xeno will ever be.
>three females in the party
>two titcows and a cute knight girl
Yeah, I'm thinking kino is back on the menu.
God Sophie was fricking begging for it.
>Doesn't button her jeans
Damn 4D-connecting jailbait...
I never understood how Fayt and most of the cast's 3D model faces looked just fine in this game, but Sophie's looks absolutely fricked. Trying to give her a cute squished "uguu" face really didn't work so well.
Absolutely starving for BFC.
Look at that fricking chad on the right. Goddam.
My husbando.
What Star Ocean game is this?
That's promo art for Star Ocean 6 which hasn't released yet.
the mc design reminds me of Cobra. Will he be as based?
God the healer girl this time looks like absolute shit.
Who cares about Star Ocean - there's about to be a Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris DLC stream. We might even get a reveal for a new game as well.
Get this trash outta here and call me when they announce Fatal Bullet 2.
Is the dlc actually good?
All of them look like weird sex dolls and I hate it.
The models and environments look like shit but the actual gameplay looks pretty decent. Do we know if this game takes place post SO3?
I’d have to guess it’s between 5 and 3
I honestly forgot there's a new star ocean coming. The blonde's hot but i'd rather play the new xenoblade right now.
>thread is about Star Ocean
>>HEY GUYS CHECK OUT XENOBLAD
>>HEY GUYS CHECK OUT SAO
>>HEY GUYS CHECK OUT THIS OTHER NON STAR-OCEAN GAME
Frick off and go back to your own threads you colossal homosexuals.
star ocean is dead after 3
I am kinda tired of them using generic middle age fantasy setting in SO games.
Favourite track?
Tedious dungeon to navigate but music kept me through it.
You know it's gotta be the sax.
last one was SO FRICKING BAD. i have 0 faith and 0 hype for this.
Literally how any game should be approached
nope, last 2 Xenoblades were so fricking good i have all the hype and preordered Xenoblade 3 AND got the DLC pass.
All Xenoblade games are so bad I'd happily replay The Last Hope over those.
nice bait homosexual
>Literally how any game should be approached
>buying games with 0 faith
Do you hate your money?
That model doesn't look so bad. The textures are super flat however. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes.
I don't understand why Tri-Ace chose to do another SO given how badly the last one did. They would have done better to go make a game with another IP they owned and developed like Valkyrie Profile.
Cute
>we want the homestuck audience
>10/27
Where the frick do I find time to play everything coming out this autumn?
Is it even confirmed to have the same global release?
Considering the Steam version launches on the 28th, I'd say yes. But I don't play westcuck versions.
Why the frick does the mobile gacha game's 3d models look significantly better than this game's models?
sorry bro, i wanted SOUL and they delivered
His voice just doesn't match his face
he sounds wienery and looks wienery, what do you mean?
sure it's a bit high pitch but it's also pretty rough, reminds me of keiji fujiwara
>looks wienery
His voice and body match but his face is too young it's weird when they zoom in.
But maybe that's part of the lore like the cyberpunk (not CDProject game) where everyone looks young and pretty?
to be fair, everyone looks young because of the stupid doll face
>reminds me of keiji fujiwara
Why'd you have to remind me.
>His voice just doesn't match his face
It does when you realize Subaru Kimura also voiced Beat.
I hope he’s as much as a likable bro as Beat was. Love that dude.
I can hear him saying You are small time
>what went wrong?
A bunch of low quality entries in the series and general pessimism over quality of writing and gameplay
Remember this?
>brown and bloom
well that brings back (bad) memories.
>all these woman at the helm
The japanese love to doom their ships
Is there any hope for the Star Ocean series?
I can't even be bothered to watch the video knowing how shit the last games have been.
Most good JRPG's only last 20-30 hours max, anon.
Hello, FF7 here.
30 hours
first time takes about 40-50 hrs
>most good JRPG's
>20-30 hours max
i think you didn't play a single good JRPG in your life
Chrono Trigger, FF4, FF5, DQ1-6, Phantasy Star 1-4 and many more gloriously amazing JRPGs are under 30 hours.
The reason modern day JRPGs aren't that short is because they're all bloated to hell and back with fully voiced dialog for practically every text box. That shit takes substantially longer to listen to than it does to read through.
>only 4thgen era games
Anon don't be moronic. By the time 5th gen rolled around jrpgs were averaging 50 hours at least. And even before then you still outliers like ManjiMaru which absolutely was pushing how far a jrpg can go without feeling short or too long
Modern jrpgs are padded just because nobody is just satisfied with the happy medium of 50-60 hours plus post game content
god I want more 20-30 hour jrpgs. they feel so bloated these days
>By the time 5th gen rolled around jrpgs were averaging 50 hours at least
Yeah, that's where the padding started. 30 hours is still the sweet spot once you trim down the unneeded fat.
I don't think you've played a single good one, homosexual. All of the best ones clock in at 20-30.
CT, FF4-6, DQ1-4, etc.
but anon those don't count because they're 4th gen games and clearly he's talking about 5th gen or beyond games because he's a zoomer that never actually went back and played the NES/SNES era JRPGs.
Don't care, homosexuals need to learn what good games are somehow.
Oh I know, and coincidentally enough my list is almost identical to yours, just with a few more games (
)
Nah. Good JRPGs should be in the midgame by 20-30 hours and end at 50-60 hours.
Still angry over Anamnesis.
It's so weird seeing this on everything but Switch, I guess they are REALLY hoping the international audience picks it up
i just noticed that SO5 still isn't on PC.
wtf.
Star Ocean 2 isn't available on anything currently.
Tales of Arise characters are the exact same between 2D and 3D, shit, I hope Akiman works on a Tales game now.
>year 2040
>star ocean 10 comes out with hyper realistic environment and bodies
>faces still look like this
KINO
Nappy time!
the thing is triace capable of making good looking model
and in VP Silmeria
i dont know why SO always ended up looks like shit, maybe triace themselve dont like to work on star ocean
That it is a trend and that they are capable of doing otherwise tells me it is 100% intentional
This is what Star Ocean is supposed to look like, 2 was a fluke because it was a 2D game so it couldn't have StarOceanFace
>2 was a fluke because it was a 2D game
Anon, did you see what the PSP anime portraits looked like?
I did not
wow, so it IS intentional! They even tried to backport the big glass eyes
They unironically think the style looks good
the graphic looks way worse than Resonance of Fate, triace make ROF2 already, frick star ocean, shit cant beat Xenoblade3 anyway
>bough this last Steam sale
>never played it
I really need to get to it.
its pretty punishing for a jrpg
nuGanker would get filtered because the combat has a learning curve
The game always punished people for being unable to understand the combat or story.
>kek that face
is this Xenoblade X spiritual succesor?
potato-chan is an outright beauty compared with the monstrosities in SO3
Cautiously optimistic about this one but not sure why
Because they're copying SO2
Star Ocean 3 is butt ugly and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
That's not a controversial opinion
I get the feeling its just the droopy eyes problem. Fix that and they look decent like Meracle and Myuria's models
who the frick does this appeal too? those characters are hideous
to Ganker of course
I love those doll faces. I just love them. They're too cute and endearing.
I love them too. Well, in SO4 they don't look so good, mostly cause they literally can't emote, but in 5 the characters looked great.
I like the realistically-lit 3D CG anime look they do in all their games. It's like playing with PS2 FMV CG graphics, it's cool.
Plus it's less straining to look at than other JRPGs with millions of bright colours.
>realtime combat shit
this why i hate most AAA Jrpg nowadays. only Xenoblade and FF7R does jrpg combat right and FF16 go back to realtime shit again
>Xenoblade and FF7R
>jrpg combat right
He's an utter moron with shit taste
Holy shit taste
still best girl
>shit designs
>shit art style
>shit gameplay
lol
>october 27
october and november are stacked as frick
But it looks like a late PS3 game.
Dare I say...it looks better than Xenoblade?
Xenoblade 3 was ruined by the ethics committee censorship, not a far comparison
It looks like what if XBX was the new template for the series' visuals, but Monolith didn't improve the models just the resolution
Takahashi only hired the frick because of one medicore anime film from 2014.
>getting worse graphic
3 looks better than the previous games
They put no fanservice and add Blacks but tri ace are based. Sad no e-girl though.
>Xenoblade been getting worse graphic wise since Xenoblade 2.
That's hilariously subjective, the lighting and character models alone in 3 shits on X and 2
>Radiata stories pre order bonus
so we getting a remaster right? RIGHT ?
3 had one of the worst plot twists in the history of games and it made me hate the series.
I stopped caring about Star Ocean the moment they pulled the "THE SERIES IS A MMO" twist
It's the same bullshit as going to beat up a vague godlike entity who wanted to kill everyone because they didn't like the way that their creations turned out. The final battle is even the same old, we don't need you because we surpassed what you planned/intended and became something more.
but thats the kinoest setting for a videogame
i like xbx graphics more than xb3 and xb1 remake
looks cool
>essentially all the footage is of what appears to be one planet
Ah yes Star Ocean but we just frick off on one planet again
The problem with 3's ending isn't the twist, it's the ambiguous "did they or didn't they?" ending that triace will never expound upon. So every new star ocean game has to be a prequel to 3.
true, they should just drop the numbering at this point tqhfamalam
Star Ocean never actually numbered their titles officially, only some trailers and fans run with numbers, this new game for example is titled "SO6" in the Japanese reveal trailer but officially once again it isn't numbered, Star Ocean always runs with different titles, not numbers.
This but inronically they've always been a far worse Tales of game to me
>new Star Ocean
>new Valkyrie game
statistically one of em are gonna suck right tri ace cant do this shit
VP isn't even by Tri-Ace.
I think you mean Valkyrie Elysium isn't going to be. There's no P in it, it's not a part of the Valkyrie Profile line.
i don’t even know what a star ocean is
People say space is like a star ocean
What's this theory that suggests SO4's universe has yet to become part of the eternal sphere?
>has yet to become part of the eternal sphere
Sounds like a ludicrous cope from people who didn't like SO3.
>4 literally ends with setup bait for the ancestor of the OG MC
The person that didn't like 3 simply need to get over it.
>The person that didn't like 3 simply need to get over it.
you mean the entire fanbase?
Speak for yourself or at the very least stop pretending that angry SO2 fanboys speak for everyone. 3 is consistently rated in the upper half of the franchise among its players.
Star Ocean 3 is my favorite and I will cherish it till the end of time
>two characters with katanas
>neither use them as weapons
kek
Square Enix are cowards and don't put e-girl party members in their games anymore, so I don't care about anything they put out.
>SE
It's Tri-Ace though.
Yes, but their marketing and publishing decisions are made by Square Enix.
Star Ocean has never had a loil member outside of Peppita and that was over 20 damn years ago. Stop being moronic conspiracy morons
Oh and fricking Kay girl I guess
They've probably never played a SO game and want to seethe for the sake of seething so they invent reasons to get mad.
Cope you're the one who didn't play for agreeing since lymle was in 4. He said kay because she always said that and westoids were seething at the time.
e-girl is a body type, not an age.
Welch, while not in the original release, counts for the remakes of both 1 and 2 as she's both short and flat in her official designs in those games.
3 has Peppita.
4 has both Lymle and Meracle.
5 has Relia.
Every single modern release of a Star Ocean game has a e-girl party member. You're the ones who haven't played them.
Precis in SO2 is 4 years old.
Ashton's strike zone is ridiculous
>Square Enix
>Star ocean
Square Enix is publisher. If you think they hold no power then you're a moron.

Tri ace have one of best anime doll like looking characters. Cope and seethe westoids granny lovers.
Westoids were seething at e-girl in 4 no wonder it was removed and let's not forget the censor of pants in 5.
>e-girlgays have mental problems and are shitposters who don't care about games for being games
What a surprise.
>Look up the gameplay video
>It's just Tales Of Berseria with its god awful AP system
I'd talk about the game if it was worth talking about.
Might go back to play SO4 instead I guess
Berseria did not invent AP moron. Literally the best tales combat game uses the same system instead of TP.
No but it did remove every single basic attack in favor of that garbage AP only attack system where everything is a special attack
Its easy to care about games for the sake of games when you don't have to worry about your favorite character type/tropes being systematically removed from them because the developers on the other side of planet can't stop listening to twittertards who can't separate fiction from reality.
you're addicted to outrage just like a troony
And you know that its westoid twitter pandering because they also have two brown characters front and center on the promo art. Sure, Star Ocean has had brown party members before, but these things come in pairs.
When a Japanese dev wants to pander to the west they replace the e-girls with minorities or furries. Its been this way for a few years.
>excited for this, VE, and pre ordered Xeno 3
I'm happy.
Ah, that sweet sweet washed out PS3 graphics look. Now on PS5! Why can't nips into graphics.
nips are shit at software
and yet the weebs still rape western games in terms of artdirection even on their own medieval turf
Hey guys, this my new star ocean wife, just wanted to let y'all know haha! So back the frick off!!
>blonde
>strong as frick to the point she can manhandle Ray like a child's doll
>black ring around the neck
I'm guessing she's Klausian.
Best thing that might save game for me. Any other sexy female? Not sure why main has more armor than a man.
Nice
i dont speak the language but from the video it
seems like they use a kinda ff7r combat system which would be pretty amazing, star ocean games always had better combat systems than the tales competition.
Wonder if PA and character endings will be making a return. They've been a standard for most of the series, so it would be weird if they weren't back. I hope they don't pull a SO4 and just make it so maxing out affection just leads to an extended epilogue for said character.
Space Jrpgs are the best :), Phantasy star online, Xeno, star ocean 🙂
All those memes, lost in time.
Everyone started with 2?
It's the most recommended SO game.
It was the first one playable in English
I started with 1, DeJap translated ROM.
Was it really necessary to place these two gauges right in the middle of the screen?
They want the xenoblade audience
I wish xeno would have similar gameplay to star ocean. Much more fun.
The Milia Wars audience.
Star Ocean will always be that thing that people confuse for Phantasy Star and Xenoblade even if Star Ocean predates Xenoblade. It's a marvel that this franchise is still alive
This game seems more like an evolution to Beseria than Arise was.
SO6 looks just as empty and generic as 5 for now, I wish someone would try to do the crash landing plot like Jet Force Gemini did where every character is unique and mandatory to explore new places instead of just being a tool to increase your DPS
sniffe
WTF is that a butt in my jp game?!?
SO5 was such a let down I just can't get hyped, even though I've been a fan of the series for decades. Like, I'm glad it's not dead, but I'm really reserved about having any excitement after what we got last time. Not super feeling the character designs this time either, feels weird we play the chad of the game and the lead girl is the same sort of moe blob as like the pink chick in 5.
All female jrpg characters are moe blobs now. That's all the weebs will tolerate
> lead girl is the same sort of moe blob as like the pink chick in 5.
I mean, at least this time she doesn't stick out like a sore thumb like the pink girl did in SO5. The Pink hair girl wasn't even designed by Akiman since apparently the dev team threw her together because they used her during the testing phases of SO5.
Star Ocean past 3 was never good
Only 5 was bad. 4 was more star ocean than any previous star ocean. 7 planets only 2 were medieval.
i liked "the last hope" but never played the 5th game.
hope this is going to be good
They really need to hire better 3d modelers
they've needed to hire better 3D modelers since they first transitioned to 3D.
Although 5 was trash and I would hope they learned from their mistakes, the fact they still haven't done anything about the atrocious 3d art design is worrisome
Best girl stuck in worst game
It really feels like the budget for that game went entirely into environment graphics and her body.
holy kek
Stuff like the emotes is the kind of unnecessary SOUL you only get from tri-Ace.
i want to frick that thing on the right
I actually like the look of it better than Tales of Arise
tales of arise has that really ugly kinda black outline on everything even realistic looking assets its kinda weird
When are we gonna get an action JRPG that emulates the ArcSys 3D anime style?
its a pain in the ass to make
and even more pain to make them look good at every angles
lazy devs get to work
if even noname studios can churn out good looking anime fighters on Arcsys engine (Granblue, DNF) then an RPG is doable too. Time to justify that $60 price tag
We cannot be complacet with PS2 looking models on PS5 hardware
>lazy
Budget. Also if you did try it would only be 20 hours long
No, lazy and pure incompetence, shit made for the PS Vita like Cold Steel 1 had 3D models that were faithful to its 2D designs and had cutscenes for the most trivial insignificant shit for 60 hours, and that shit was as low budget as Falcon titles used to be.
Tri Ace are like SNK they cannot into 3d. But they can't do a 2D game anymore.
No one. Not even big companies can afford to spend that money on a gamble for a niche jrpg series that most people don't even know
I thought KOF14 and 15 looked decent, but 14 has better facial animations, IIRC.
it's not my fricking problem, AA devs in 90s busted their asses to make games look as good as they can, stretching the technological limitations of the time
now we have the best tools, engines and hardware there has ever been and suddenly it's "muh budget", "it's gonna be a short game"
don't wanna hear it
one can dream...
not even nintendo has that kind of budget
>now we have the best tools, engines and hardware there has ever been and suddenly it's "muh budget", "it's gonna be a short game"
It does come down to budget because modern development costs millions compared to costs in the 90s. The big problem with SO5 was the fact that it had no budget and it had no development time.
>being this mad
just don't buy the game and move on.
Open up the fricking story mode, look at those fricking animations and not-main-character models.
arcsys animations only looks good at specific angle.
rpgs cost waaaay more money to produce than fighting games anon they are basically the most expensive thing you can make in video games for both single player or multiplayer
Why is she so flat?
>Star ocean game
>doll models
Soul
please tell me that i can dress the main girl as lenneth
it seems as formulaic, generic and souless like Xenopozzed 3.
At least i didn't see a Black person.
Ok, the game is confirmed to have the usual shitty 3D models that frick up the original 2D designs, but will it have actual cutscenes at least? SO5 had only 5 or so actual cutscenes amidst the dozens of events where characters just talk while traversing the map.
Who knows. Maybe everyone will just stand in place again
I think so, Raymond opening is like an 8-minute cutscene and the trailers are showcasing a decent amount of what seems to be proper cutscenes.
They need to change their art direction.
Go for semi-manga aesthetic like the new Atelier games or Xenoblade 2 and the remake.
You cannot have kawaii ugu~ faces with a normal renderer.
gives me som Xbox 360 nostalgia vibes
hope this comes to pc so i can mod the ugly out of these character models
its already confirmed for steam
I'm surprised 5 never did after 4, but maybe it was just that big a flop.
Considering how effortless some PC ports are it must've been a REALLY horrible flop. It's a shame, I'd get it simply for the possibility of mods.
What's ugly with this one? Unless you mean the literal in-game models and their buttery faces
If the dude is talking about mods it sure ain't about redrawing a picture.
>Unless you mean
yes
This design brings me back to 2009 somehow, I wonder why. It just looks so soulful and sexy at the same time.
Akiman is untouchable, literal god among men
I hope character endings come back.
Did the SJW ethic team aprove this character?
4 didn't get any modding. Dunno why.
Kinda came too late, no-one is interested in modding a game that long after its initial release, they got other shit to do.
4 is on pc? thats a fricking stealth release
It was released with no fanfare yes, they just dropped on Steam many years after the original 360 and later PS3 release.
It's also pretty bad port for as far as settings go and controls for M+KB users. The controls config menu doesn't explain the mapping for all actions and mouselook doesn't work for camera movement. I was forced to exclusively use keyboard for slow ass camera movement and general controls
I would imagine being SO4 had something to do with that
Don't have a good enough PC to run it and no modern console. You think im gonna be in for a low framerate and resolution mess if I get it on PS4?
SO6 looks as bare as SO5 was, but now the zones have verticality to them it seems, anyway SO5 was a PS3 game in Japan, I don't think SO6 could be any noticeably worse on the PS4 version.
gameplay looks excellent
story looks intriguing
the girls are cute
i'm in
simple as'
Holy based jrpg enjoyer, getting tales of arise vibes from this
>getting tales of arise vibes from this
Arise had incredibly faithful 2D to 3D design translation for starters, I'm not seeing that in SO6, quite the contrary in fact.
This also has like a tenth of the budget arise had. I'm happy enough with getting games in the same direction at least.
>getting Tales of Arise vibes
There isn’t a gay-ass stagger bar for enemies/bosses so far so it already looks to be better. Plus big guys have hitstun.
I dont trust them after SO5. What a piece of shit.
They look like fricking plastic dolls.
wtf with the blond man proportions
Wrong head on body
He's a big guy
The frick.
>little boy face on Ken's body
>not a single old hag/obese/trans xerson
the hate against this game is coordinated
SOUL
>game looks good
no wonder Ganker hates it
It looks as poor as SO5, a late PS3 game that got ported to the PS4.
I like how it looks, not everything needs to be ultra AAA and the gameplay looks fun
did you even see the battle system? of course you didn't
>"That's on you, if you have no standards so be it."
>meanwhile...
>"YAAAAAS!! love the art!!"
didn't even read the rest
>deliver visuals faithful to the art direction of their titles.
Even Second Story? It's probably the one SO game that isn't really controversial. Besides maybe 1 (And well. Not a lot people care about it)
But most of thier post ps1 games are a shitfest for one reason or another
SO2 and VP1 aren't controversial. They're as safe as you can get, being PS1 2D sprite shit. And you just know most of these nostalgia frickers have no clue how skills and item creation in SO2 or anything at all in VP1 works.
>proper staggering even on large enemies
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I've never played a SO game, but I'll look into this one since the rest of the year is barren as far as releases go.
>unzipped blonde
THEY LEARNED
What they learn?
why does he look familiar
Looks like Maximilian
I hope they fix the dogshit framerate though
PS5 hardware is shit compared to Series X
>amazing art
>garbage 3D models
I hate this
Akiman leaving Capcom was a mistake, his godly artwork is being wasted.
>Star Ocean
Unless it's Second Story being released on current consoles I don't give a frick.
making a star ocean game in the first place who gives a shit about this beyond bargain bin series. it’s like tales games weren’t shitty enough for you
star ocean games always had better, more intense and more fun combat than tales
deceptively thicc
Post butt coomer
*blocks your path*
Star Ocean was never good.
Star Ocean 2 was a fluke and the only good game to ever come out of that whole franchise.
Sounds like somebody is asking to get air raided
SHE'S IN
>ポーン
cute
>ソーア
>Es'owa
Bravo localistion team
Character models have the PS2 era feel to them so I like them. Reminds me of Xenosaga trilogy.
Day 1 buy for me anyway, game looks fun.
what happened to valkyrie elysium and diofield chronicle? moved to 2023?
valkyrie elysium still supposedly coming in 2022. SE likes to reveal more info in dumps later like star ocean and final fantasy.
>everyone has fetal alcohol syndrome
Jesus Christ, they should have let the series die after Till the End of Time.
They should have left you die after being born, but here we are anon.
It's soul, you wouldn't understand.
i'm looking forward to divine force, sonic frontiers, hogwarts legacy, and steel rising.
you mad, Ganker?
LITERALLY FUMING
So is the vaguely non asian looking asian dude the game director?
>Federation battleship that shoots down the MC has a Kenny on it
So what, Claude's kid is a bad guy?
Supposedly going by the summaries.
5 bucks says he's not actually a bad guy
What summaries?
Why not go back to star ocean 2 graphics? People are actually buying those type of graphics these days.
HD-2D is cancer. Nostalgia gays need to frick off.
No one said anything about HD-2D m8.
>a good artstyle that ages very well is cancer
lmao gay
Square Enix is testing the waters with the Live A Live remake. It might happen.
>Implying literally anyone left at tri-ace can do 2d
not really comparable since it seems to be turn based (by the suikoden guys)
but this.. this battle style really impressed me somehow. Seriously look at the two videos.
that actually looks sick
the artstyle is growing on me...
what a cutie :3
To much armor.
>girl wears less
>too sexualized
>girl wears more
>NO, GO BACK GO BACK
Needs more armor actually.
this little princess is for cute, the other girls are for sexy
Don't diss the based frilly plate dress style, there's not enough of that as is.
having a girl in actual armor is a fricking rarity.
you should be hanged for saying that
Both Elena and Laetitia seem cool, which is a first for SO.
they fix the MCs face?
A little bit, but he still has a tiny head.
>what went wrong?
is clear on your pic.
>mix of gameplay and in-game cinematics.
They uploaded Ray’s story opening. Looks solid, Ray is a bro, Elena best girl.
https://twitter.com/starocean/status/1542191414506885123?s=21&t=VnB2khlDy3CP7aV54jX7ew
Two protagonists
>no space explosions sfx
It looks like it'll be SO2 style where the other protagonist still joins the party. It's just a matter of viewpoint and probably specific events where the selected protagonist is elsewhere.
who is the other protagonist? armor girl?
>Trailer already shows more environments than the entirety of 5
I only played Star Ocean 3. How come Star Ocean 4 and 5 were never marketed and advertised? I am kind of shocked this is the sixth game of the series.
4 was. 5 was a budget game.
Square Enix was fully onboard with Star Ocean 4 which ended up being a megaflop. tri-ace then went on to make a couple more experimental titles that flopped and loss their good graces with the company.
star ocean 4 wasnt even bad and especially not nearly as bad as people pretended, the hate boner for it because "kay" has always been moronic
>You're just mad Dante's hair isn't white
Frick off.
Thanatos was pretty hilarious though.
>i'd say that goes to Sarah
Harsh
Sarah is beautiful but she is a bad character and everyone should hate her.
I will argee to that at least.
But I still think she's pretty that can't change
Well yeah, but that's what I'm saying. So are many popular JRPGs. Like, there's no way you're playing XC2 without some heavy self-irony.
>It also came out in 4 discs lol
>Post-game bonus dungeons are on Disc 3
>Any time you want to go back to your ship to do item crafting you have to go back to Disc 4
>SO4 is anime as frick to the point the director admitted he just wanted to direct a dating sim
>The deal with Microsoft made Tri-ace to try and westernize a game that was Japanese to its very core
It was a weird time.
>he just wanted to direct a dating sim
>Can't date any SO4 girl
Hack. But Reimi is still nice so eh
Tri-ace please
>Two protagonists
>Sci-fi vs fantasy
>Lots of different environments unlike 5
>Already more different character attacks than in 5
>Four character battles so it isn't a clusterfrick of visual effects vomit and stun resisting enemies like 5
>Blindsides are back in some form
After 5 I didn't think we'd ever get another game, let alone one that's actually good. Hopefully they bring back PAs, 2's skill system, item creation, and character endings too, even if there's a reduced cast.
>deep cleavage
Gaming is healing
Looks pretty good, I will probably pick it up on PC.
But man, those faces give me Xenoblade X flashbacks.
Today I will remind them.
You wish you had a name that rad
needed more belts and a brooding past
Nothin' wrong with Sharp Goeshisownway.
>Never gets court martialed or reports to Moonbase about his massive naivete-induced blunder with an (alternate) earth
SO4 plotholes will never not be funny to me
that was the most moronic twist in history
>your party members are a cyborg from a super advanced civ and a space elf from a race literally dedicated to safeguarding technology
>the only one that tells edge its a bad idea to give them that tech is the dumb e-girl cat girl
Wasn't that event before either of those two joined?
Faize is the third party member you pick up who joins in the fight against the first boss and Bacchus joins in the Cardianon mothership, Both events happen before they get wormholed to not-Area 51.
So it's before the space elf joins, then.
I think the anon is referring to faize as a space elf though in SO4's context isn't correct.
The cyborg is an actual space elf who got just replaced his body and is of the same species of the space elf character you're probably thinking of (pic related)
> a space elf from a race literally dedicated to safeguarding technology
>anon thinks this was referring to Faize
Yeah my bad, I got mixed up on that.
>he killed billions
what a chad
>got away with it
Gigachad
>Killed billions
>Married his big ass childhood friend
Edge won.
I blame the doll faces and Lymles dub, kay?
Anne in 5 really loves cats too, IIRC.
The Second Story/Evolution is one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it's so ambitious that you can't help but admire it. Everything after that has been pure trash.
Every tri-Ace game is ambitious, especially on PS1 and PS2.
SO2gays seriously need to play another game.
Series died with the dumb shit in 3. Also every fricking game starts off with cool sci-fi shit and instantly slides into the fricking toilet with bog standard fantasy garbage. All that made 2 fun was the battle system.
>what went wrong?
Squeernix is what wen't wron frick anything they make at this point.
>SEXO girls
>cool dual protagonist angle, proper scifi vs medieval clash
>small but interesting innovations to gameplay that's always been good
Please don't be shit. 5 burned me too hard.
The last time I played SO2 something new I found was with this NPC in the second town. She just paces back and forth and has whatever dialogue, but if you stand in her way for a few seconds she moves off to the side with the angry emote and her dialogue changes to her telling you you're in the way.
I think she gives you a rare item or something if you keep blocking her way for a long time.
>Remove all the shit that makes star ocean iconic
>Bunch of optimization issues
>Dog shit tales of arise-esque looking system
But worst of all are the character designs.
>Remove all the shit that makes star ocean iconic
Star Trek but every plot is getting marooned on a catgirl planet?
Star Ocean has been like that since the beginning mongoloid
The first two played more like Grandia, they were active-turn based.
For 1 yes, for 2 only if you played on the turn-based mode which no one did.
Damm, I missed a SO thread.
I'll just say how much I miss Anamnesis
