Hats don't give you DEF in this game unless you turn on easy mode. You get DEF from your accessory, also you get ATK from your ammo. Go back to the vending machine and get the goggles and Axis will do like 3 damage

They do and they're just inexplicably fine now. Their torturous, lovecraftian forms of existence are immediately forgotten about and downplayed once you get to the epilogue for some reason. I don't mind most of Undertale's writing but that's always confused me.
I can only assume that since monsters are literally a culmination of emotions that an amalgam being with their family again puts a lid on the eldritch horror components.

Unknown, but it's possible she started to melt considering what happens to Martlet with a serum. What happens if you put determination in an already melting monster?
I don't know if it has been pointed out but Kanako appears to be bleeding from the mouth after getting vaxxed, potentially eyes too if it's not some weird anti-aliasing.

It's the final boss fight it's meant to fricking change something, even when she loses to the kid she's trying to kill, nothing changes for her or her attitude or her situation whatsoever
It's perfectly fine and understandable for her to be a bitter b***h over the course of the story, it's nice even in its own way, but WHERE'S THE FRICKING PAYOFF TO MAKE IT ALL WORTH IT?
at best ceroba should be a boss at power of a member of Feisty Five,
she should absolutely not be the final pacifist boss and let alone have her nine-tailed kitsune of hypersneed form,
the final boss of pacifist should Asgore or Flowey but this time you stand a better ground against Flowey
I honestly think she's fine being the final boss, but there should have been a better explanation for how tough she is. Nobody else gets superpowers from emotions except Undyne, and that's a specific case that comes at a heavy cost to her. Maybe could write it off as like some part of Kanako's amalgamated soul clinging to the mask and empowering her.
It's just weird that Ceroba has the opposite problem to all the other monsters. All the other characters have their plot problems resolved way too quickly, like Dalv for example is the worst of them, changing his mind and his lifestyle completely in a single fight. He's a throwaway character though so it's kinda forgivable. Ceroba on the other hand spends half the game with you and has the biggest fight of the lot, and none of her problems get resolved whatsoever. Most of them aren't even acknowledged. It's such a tragic waste of a character that could have been amazing
Bitter characters who learn from their situation, grow, and change are utter kino. Take Binah for example, she's an absurdly powerful, cold, bitter brute of a woman who views pain and suffering as the meaning of human life. When she gets beaten by the protagonist who wants to fix the world, she's forced to reconsider her philosophy on life, and although it's slow and gradual, she changes and garners a bit of a happier life for herself.
Why couldn't they have just given her a resolution? As a character - a bitter old widow who fricked up big time and is trying to keep her cool and fix everything for herself - she's got a cool, unique situation and perspective to offer. I guarantee that if the result of her fight was her changing for the better, she wouldn't be half as hated and people wouldn't take every other line she says in the worst way
I think her character is fine, except for 1. Thinking Chujin is some amazing person when he's not, and 2. experimenting on her fricking daughter

She's his wife and she met him in good circumstances, and clearly had some good years with him, her perspective being coloured is natural. If other people had mixed opinions, even something as simple as "There was always something about him I couldn't put my finger on, though...", that would have gone a long way to addressing that dissonance

It was the single biggest mistake she ever made, that completely fricked her life and her daughter's life up forever. It should have been hinted at earlier that she was responsible and it should have been affecting her worse, they only show you directly in the flashback and then it's just forgotten for the rest of the fight and the final cutscene. WHY? It could have been amazing

Why is it that despite the fact I know for a fact Starlo's an awesome character, something keeps irking me about him?
His design is cool, his boss is one of the best, and the character's whole concept of a farm boy playing the role of sheriff is great at face value, but something still feels off about it.

playing this makes me want to know more about the history of the monsters in the underground and the other humans that fell, but I don't think toby really came up with any lore for that.
There was the whole war thing and the transition period between Monsters fearing humanity and them finally getting over that fear, but a lot of the lore feels designed in a way to prevent any weird headcanon shit, like with how the monsters are so fricking weak and how human souls just never die even though Frisk's soul shatters when they're defeated in battle outside of the Pacifist route that the entire conflict that drove monsters underground is just like "yeah they got their shit stomped lol" and implies that potentially very few/no humans died so it becomes very one-sided and hard to develop properly.
It's kinda fricky.
it sucks that so much stuff is vague even though it doesn't feel like it should be. Like the actual timeline of events and how long its been in between each human falling down starting with chara.

I do kinda hope that UT Yellow helps encourage people to make more fully fledged fangames and the Undertale/Deltarune fan content scene evolves from the whole AU "Sans if he edgy" thing into actually making proper stories and shit that expand on the lore in their own ways and are able to showcase different themes and ideas that're distinct from what Undertale originally did.
