Bioware

Bioware must be crushed, seeing how Baldur's Gate 3 is being raved about endlessly.... could you imagine? They made the first two games, the expansions and Icewind Dale games and another studio takes the IP and absolutely crushes sales records.

As a lifelong CRPG GAMER I've played BG2, BG2 ToB, IWD 1+2 and their expacks (you could get to lvl 30 in them, nutty power scaling), Neverwinter Nights....

but none of these games came close to the success BG3 is experiencing now.

I loved DA:O and the expansion. DA 2 looks jank asf but Dragon Age Inquisition is ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD - like a 8.5/10. But DA2 absolutely hobbled DA Inquisition...

Obsidian is just as crushed they wanted the BG license for years and lost out to Larian after Pillars 2 wasn't as successful as DOS2

OH YEAH i forgot about Obsidian. Yes I played PoE too, pretty good, story was alright, not great. npcs were pretty forgetable.

overall, PoE is on par with Icewind Dale games, but slightly less because IWD was cooler.

honestly im glad Larian got the IP rights, they did it epic.

PoE was pretty meh, their system isn't better than DnD. I give PoE a 6.5/10.

PoE was too bland, it had the core of the game right but no spice to go with it.

I mean of course those old games don't see the same success as BG3 does to day because games are way more mainstream now than they were then
BioWare is still fricking tragic though. Also all the Star Wars stuff they came up with with Kotor? It's being mentioned in Star Wars shows right now and I bet maybe 5% of watchers or even the people involved in production know who made it up. It's pretty weird.

I thought about that when they mentioned the assassion droids in Ahsoka literally being HK models

No need to look that far. Mandalorians? I mean the word existed but the whole warrior culture thing etc. is all BioWare.

Cisquisition is 7/10 at best. It's kinda fun but quickly gets boring once you realize how padded it is and how many quests are just rip-offs from MMOs.

mmm... i see your point but the combat is good in Inquisition. How so, you ask?

Easy - i played warrior archer and blew everythang up. so much fun, so those busy work quests were very enjoyable for me.

Bioware died after Mass Effect 1. People never stopped coping though.

Only good RPG devs still alive are Larian and Owlcat.

The games you talked about are good games, but they came out during a era of masterpieces, when very game was made with love.

The same thing can't be said about most of todays games. Matter of fact, this year is an exceptional year, because we had Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur's Gate 3 and soon Starfield will also come out.
compare this to the year 2000

      >starfield
gotta be fricking kidding me, Skyrim and Fallout 4 are abject buggy garbage. what are you expecting from Starfield and that garbage engine they can't even use properly? not looking for an answer because there is one, but Im tired of seing bethesda garbage being shilled on here of all places

You know one thing that Bioware did better than Larian, for Baldur's Gate?

BG2 has better music when you boot it up/during character creation. Also the "stone" clicking sound is kino. .

BG1 had the best music for character creation in the entire series. I won't say otherwise. But the clicking sound effect when pressing each button is kino.

Disagree, I think the more mellow music in BG3 is better for these types of games.

Okay, fair enough. I still prefer the BG1 theme, sure it might sound like generic high fantasy music when compared to BG3's theme. But there's something about it that gets me more engaged and anticipated for adventure when listening to it.

No one who worked on BG1 & 2 has worked at Bioware for 15 years anon. The last hang-ons left after Ass Effect 1.

The people who made those games haven't been working at Bioware for years.
Also who gives a shit about Bioware?

On one hand, I'm pleased to see crpgs get mainstream exposure. Hopefully it encourages more studios to take a crack at it and revive the genre.

On the other hand, I think Larian's approach to turn-based combat is dull as shit and would have preferred RTwP, which is apparently an unpopular opinion. But as long as their combat model doesn't become industry-standard, I think I'll be fine with anyone but bioware pumping out bioware-esque crpgs. It's not like they have a ton of their old talent left, or even respect them if Gaider is to be believed.

Bioware isn't remotely the same company that made the first two BG games and they haven't been for years, Dragon Age: Origins was the last traditional game they made and it came out in 2009 and started development in fricking 2002

so who cares if they're crushed, they haven't been capable of putting out a game like BG in over two decades

DA2 and Inquisition aren't crpgs really in the slightest any more. I agree however that Inquisition is a much better game than it gets credit for from most people. DA2 rightfully gets shit on and is one of the worst sequels in gaming history along with DMC2.

Yea Inquisition is pretty good, the story isn't as good as Origins but the gameplay might be better in Inquisition.

Inquisition starts bad, starts going somewhere half way through, then shits itself at the end.
