Black characters used to be cool and based.

Black characters used to be cool and based. This random npc is more interesting and memorable than any black guy in gaming from the last 10 years, at least in the west. Now they’re all so bland and safe that they’re just different versions of Miles Morales, probably with that same zoomer haircut.

Well it's in OP's pic, but yes probably trolling.

    Yes, we know.

All black characters need to be anti-stereotypes these days to the point that they're all typecast'd as wise teachers because an actual black protag still spooks the boardrooms. They're willing to try drawing in more black people with supporting anti-stereotypes, but not willing to go all in, except if it's a black woman for some odd reason.

    Blacks sell less
    ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You fricked up and saved the thumbnail. Here, have the original.

And yes, black protags sell less, but fat Larry isn't a protag, and we're more so talking about writing compelling characters than we are about what does or doesn't sell.

God damnit. I posted the thumbnail again. Today is just not my day.

fat larry is not interesting as he's just a generic pimp character and exists within your preconceived notions of what a black person should be

      Anonymous

He is an entertaining, memorable, likeable and quotable character.
      That's all that really matters.

      Anonymous

Maybe that's why people like fat larry. Not every character needs to subvert expectations. The entire game is filled with goth stereotypes. It's fun.

        Anonymous

right, not everything needs to be a subversion, but saying X is only interesting because it's a cliche is a bit boring. thats like saying a white NPC is only interesting is if theyre a meek office worker

          Anonymous

But that IS a compelling character. Especially when we see him overcome his meekness like in fight club or office space. Those are legendary classics.

            >Especially when we see him overcome his meekness like in fight club or office space
so when they subvert your expectations?

              Anonymous

Overcome their problems. Subverting expectations would be remaining a meek office worker. Think CJ in gta. He's a stereotype, but he overcomes his problems and recognizes his flaws. That's not exactly subverting expectations.

He’s a fictional character. His role is to sell you items in an entertaining and memorable manner. He succeeded, therefore he is a good character

I always hear this narrative, but I've never seen evidence to back it up. It feels more like a cope defense. Fat larry is a far more compelling character than than any of Deborah wilsons roles in the past decade, many of which could be just as stereotyped (wolfenslop)

    >black characters were cool when israelites were less open about hating you

Marcuse' created the new left back in the 60's. He was a israelite. Warren Buffet combined that with CRT when he created BLM. Start blaming the irish. It didn't even take off back when a israelite (who was working for rockefellers CIA) first started hating on whitey academically.

Don't argue with me /misc/ock, I know what I'm talking about.

Marcuse is the only critical theorist I cited, and the others didn't agree with his philosophy. Rockefeller and Buffet are extremely wealthy non israeli american oilmen.

Are you going to post an argument, or simply concede with humility by posting character attacks?

If left-leaning people are more creative, why is all art getting worse and more bland as our culture becomes more liberal?
