You start playing a season for 2 days, get a level 63 character for almost no effort and then you get to have another free level 63 instantly.
There's literally no reason for you to ever do any combat because once you finish the season in 2 days you get BiS for t1. Don't have to grind for money either because you'll have so many characters that you'll get half a billion silver a week once capped.
you have to grind for boss gear after that, then life skills, etc, etc

Really? I found it to be a bit of a pain to play since walking direction completely changes your attack.
Skills fire in the direction your camera is facing if your target reticle is red, and even deeper in, you can mouse/camera move for even more control.

Play an MMO lite, the amount of time you have to put into most MMO's you could easily run a few different games. That or pick up some other live service game.
To start playing Black Desert Online you have to first ask your wallet.
You're going to need to purchase Inventory space and inventory carry weight. This is gonna cost around $60 per character depending on current sales.
Tent is $50 but character wide
Pets all at at least tier 4 is gonna be $100
Maids you're going to want around 20 storage maids and 3-5 market maids is gonna be $150
You need at least one outfit for the exp boost $20
The "optional" sub fee to avoid the heavy marketplace tax is $15 per 30 days
There are 2 other subs at around $12 every 30 days that are also extremely helpful
You missed out on the free horse event so make sure to buy skill resets for your horse, having at least a t8 with drift + insta accell is mandatory for getting around the world
Speaking of horses get the whistle for around $12 so you can call it from anywhere in the world
Buy some character slots and grind up a bunch of alts. Place one at every world boss so you don't miss them, this is free silver
Late game you're going to want cron stones for enhancing your gear you can melt the $20 cash outfits down to get them for "free" and it's highly recommended to boost your gear score
IMPORTANT
the game's logic is tied to your FPS which is odd for an mmo but the more fps you have the more dps you can do so get the fattest GPU you can buy and play on min settings. you want at least 300fps to be competitive

Make sure you add your phone number for the stat boost you get for 2 factor
Since you have your phone link your BDO mobile account for added bonuses

take it from a pleb who used to play MMO's as obsessed in highschool but stopped because life hit hard - I recently randomly decided to download it and try it after 7 years of not playing it - it's fun and pretty chill.
Sure there's grind at a later point but you have shittons of variety when it comes down to things to do and characters to play with. You will have fun for a month at least, after that, it's up to you. Find a decent guild for PvP or lifeskills, whatever you prefer. Don't feel like grinding mobs? - Go shoot beehives of trees to craft shit for money. Chill game - 5/7
oh, as for p2w, it was way worse, I've spent few weeks playing and threw in like 20 EUR, enough to buy some cool shit for now in 100+ hours. Storage space also is manageable, there's tips online, you don't need to spend a fortune at first for sure

i fricking love this game. I started a few months ago and have been enjoying it a lot. I heard in the past it was one of the worst P2W offenders but apparently that's been scaled down hardcore because I've never once felt I had to buy something and the game throws so many freebies at you.
What I like about it is it's just a big sandbox to do whatever you feel like and i never really felt like i have to do something or i'll fall forever behind. Chill game. I would highly recommend giving it a try.
BDO is one of the best MMOs out there and it's a a classic defining game of the genre. It's also extremely cheap.

The real kicker for me was that they limited the body sliders for Shai in the english version.
I've dealt with outfit censorship in MMOs before. Tera censored Elin years ago and people forgot about it in time (after they released lewder uncensored outfits than what was originally censored).
But having a game that was largely sold on its character creator, intentionally limiting customization of one race was outrageous to me.

It has great combat and lots of interesting if a bit complex systems that allow you to do almost anything. You can become a carpenter, crafter, distiller, potion maker, blacksmith, shipwright, horse breeder / trainer, a pirate, explorer, entrepreneur, own cities/regions and tax people, own a mining company, have hundreds if not thousands of employees that you pay to work for you with booze, trader that moves shit between cities with a wagon etc.
It's very open ended, but takes a lot of time, if you have friends to play with or join a guild, things will be a lot faster.
Very grindy for solo players, but there's ways to alleviate the grind, the game allows for various AFK methods, if you're simply offline, the game gives you a constant passive income. I remember logging back in to the game after a few years and I had hundreds of millions of silver waiting for me.
But it being a korean MMO, it is of course, pay 2 win. If you intend to do PvP or some top of the line end game content, you don't have a chance with the whales of the game. Just playing it casually is a good experience, there's so much more to the game than PvP or end game shit.
Play Ragnarok Online and never enjoy any other MMO ever again by comparison.

I did the Everfrost starter for my second character and liked it a lot but you still are running around spamming R
If you really want to you can just use all the exp boosts that can thrown at you to grind up your level quick by fighting monsters instead of questing, but i really would suggest questing until like lvl 56 to get the goodies. Make sure you start a "Season" character

Everyone tells you it's p2w, but there is no actual play.
You just kill mobs in a circle and sell the drops, and then buy better gear, or fight a boss and get it's gear, and then keep fighting the same mobs in a circle to sell loot and buy enhancement gems.
There is no player interaction, no point in grouping, no point in PvP(in which you can enter only by spending money).
They have all this fancy and useless things like you can get a boat and fish, that's it, millions of in game money to get a fancy boat and fish.
You can get a house go inside, every furniture costs money, get like 10.
All the cool outfits you see is get people paying up to 20eurodollars for b***h clothes.
Underwear clothes? 10 eurodollars.
Really can't understand what to do in this game, there is no skill progression you just buy stuff, all that fancy graphics and jumping is for nothing, there is no community, is a single player game but you see the others around. That's it.
Ignoring the pay to win crap and all the running in circles the actual endgame is Node Wars and Siege. Which is incredibly fun but you will have to spend a lot of time/money or both to actually compete and they are incredibly social.

Look at all the posts, about BDO, is never gameplay or videos, is just their character in which they spent up to 200eurodollars for underwear and costumes. That's it. The only good thing was(at the time) the character creator.
Ask those motherfrickes for gameplay videos, they have none, because there is no play.
They've improved gearing a lot since I last checked and the seasonal system is good. The fundamental problem is that there's still nothing to do with the gear, you just upgrade it so that you can upgrade it more. They also have huge new player discounts to try to squeeze money out of you before you realize that. For a KMMO they're close to having a good formula right now but the game needs endgame PVE content badly. The fact that you can never catch up to old players in gear has always been a common complaint about the game so I don't know what the devs are smoking to not have added PVE gear milestones by now.

Swords of Legends Online, a Chinese MMO, also had this same monetization model. The game was also shut down in less than 2 years despite having a constant stream of dungeons, raids, areas, classes and no pay to win.
When will an mmo come out that actually bothers with the social aspect. That's the whole point behind the idea, meeting people and doing fun things together naturally. Yet all we get is anti fun mechanics that have everyone mindlessly grinding for thousands of hours for bigger numbers or doing dungeons a trillion times for a piece of equipment everyone then needs to fight for.

Mabinogi a 20 year old MMO is social focused, still gets content updates. It's gettin an update to the unreal engine eventually so that might be worth looking in to.

Idk if you're one of those ppl that hates discord or whatever, but the more dedicated guilds will have a discord server with guides/resources etc, and obviously being able to ask vets questions will also be a huge plus.
Game has a shitload of systems and since they patch shit literally every week things are always fluid so a guide from last year might well be useless this year.
Only real way to stay up to date is to ask questions and share knowledge.

It's a populated world but nobody wants to be social. Other games like you said let you interact with players but in this game you can sit near them and afk or flag up to attack them.
Dual seated horses is the most co-op experience you can have. Even grinding in circles is more efficient if you have two different rotations instead of sharing the same rotation.

I actually think PSO2 has a better character creator with more options.
BDO's is easier to use but if you've messed around for it as much as I have you can see the limitations. The game also lacks a lot of makeup options, tattoos, hairstyles, etc that other games have. BDO has been out for like 8 years now and has only added I think 5 or 6 hairstyles since launch. I do realize that every class gets one special hairstyle but that's still a small amount.

Almost everything can be bought and sold with silver, and clothing can be mixed and matched and outfits have dye channels, like (8-10) depending on the outfit.

he should have said that there's like 10 outfits per class and you have severely limited options compared to other MMOs because pearl abyss was moronic and decided to have unique skeletons and shit for every class so making outfits is an incredibly slow process and even after they bought a separate studio to work entirely on outfits the production of them is still a snails pace compared to other MMOs especially korean ones.
For example Tamer has been out since launch and has around 30 different outfits to choose from and this includes outfits that were made for all classes as well as stuff like the Ghille suit. 9 years and 30 outfits. And for the majority of those 9 years it was like 8 outfits,

On top of all the other issues listed here, the game is gear based. Gear progression is the only real progression.
Despite of that, they have dmg capped monsters, many of which are part of mega grinds for rare but very useful items.
So even if you shell out real money and spend enormous time getting upgrades, you end up gear capped and grinding .1% faster than a fresh character.
I never saw something so stupid in my life as devaluing the gear people grind and pay for by ap caps.
