its usually a good idea to just evade if you know they can rape you when you see their AP bar close to filling, or to guard if you're not confident in your EVA chances
you can also get an idea for how an enemy is going to act based on the status icons above its hp meter
for example, enemies who are rampaging (red howling beast icon in a black square) will always attack, unless they're charging a super move, which will be obvious based on other status action icons (e.g. the icon with a purple aura)
when this is happening you'll want to try a break or gun break attack. some moves can't be broken though, and need to be either evaded or guarded.

You don't really need to read any books to understand, as most fairytails are just an enemy/npc and by just knowing the overall plot of them you can undertstand what kind of twists the game pulls off, the only one that i do find obligatory is, of course, Alice in Wonderland from Lewis Carroll, because far too much in the games (and specially the second one) references that specific story
The "required" reading list is mostly just shit that BS references. If you really want to read shit, start with Alice in Wonderland, then move on to the other fairy tales, Black personman mythos, and stories people come from. If you think you've got a big enough dick afterwards, try reading the Bible and Paradise Lost, since those are very likely to be relevant in the future.

John Milton was a poet that lived in the 17th century (and he's one of the greatest English poets period). He wrote an epic poem called Paradise Lost, styled after Virgil's Aeneid. It's a retelling of the story of Adam and Eve from the Book of Genesis from the perspective of Lucifer.
Shepherds and sheep are kinda a big deal in the Christian doctrine. Milton also wrote pastoral poetry - most notably Lycidas, in which a young shepherd laments the death of his dear friend.
How it all ties into the BS series is currently unknown. That said, it's a Christian holiday, and Milton's shown to be a huge fan of said Christian theming throughout the game, what with the constant references to the ghouls as "angels", and Lingeriena's apparent references to her "Lord" that's the one telling her she can be an angel, and telling her to shepherd the souls of the Patients to Heaven. That last part in particular is also pretty interesting, because the phrase "Cosmos <Heaven>" comes up a few times in the game, from one of the Carpenter's messages and from Hein in the reverse route off the top of my head.

The characters have close to nothing in common with the books they were named after.
Some have similar costumes like how red hood has red hoods hood and Alice is dressed like Alice with her blue dress and white apron... and thats it i think the other characters have nothing to do with the characters they were named after either in personality,backstory or appearance.
So you dont have to read any books to understand Black Souls and actually it might even harm your experience if you read them and then expect to see the character from the book in the game and get dissapointed that its nothing more than a name for a shallow pop referance.

So something I noticed is that some NPC's are still present when I am at 100 or 0 SEN, but others are not or are monsters at 0 SEN.
My guess is that NPC's who exist at both ends are more 'real' than the ones who are only at 100 SEN? Or that is that the monster-people do exist but that the negative effect of the world is strong enough for me to see them as monsters, but other NPC's are above this effect?
This was explained in the last thread, but SEN is a stat the determines not Grimm's sanity, but how strongly he is under the effect of 5th dimensional lovecraftian entities brainwashing him. 0 SEN and below are Grimm being able to see the world clearly - at least as clearly as he's capable of, anyway. Corpses and NPC's that disappear at low SEN values were never there to begin with, and NPC's that turn into monsters are simply Grimm witnessing their true forms; again, in as much as he is capable of perceiving them.
tl;dr 0 SEN or below allows Grimm to start seeing past the illusions and mindrape he's being afflicted with
As much as I prefer the sennou explanation, we know what SEN is for, and it's SENDAM (or MADNES because EMMM apparently can't into English). The corpses and other shit never having been there in the first place makes no sense either, as the items and other shit you gain from them don't disappear with your SEN changing.

the only things he can permanently miss (that he hasn't already got) are are either tied to a 0 Sen requirement or require his covenants to stay unkilled, the only thing he can really miss outside of that is Pinocchio which you didn't help at all

GG is the vessel that contains Leaf's power of creation. Leaf had a much greater degree of control when shaping Gardens then the other Gods, so The Crawling One stripped her of that power and put it into GG to make a new Wonderland with (TCO's original Garden was just an infinitely repeating Tea Party before Leaf crashed the party).

It's one of the things that makes her so interesting. Somehow she's one of the most helpful characters in the game, despite what she is.
It's just part of her plan to make Grimm the blackest soul possible. Remember, her schtick with Leaf was due to her having an inferiority complex about being unable to create, since she can't create directly, she does so indirectly by corrupting others and turning them into monsters like her. She only loves Grimm in the sense that she's grooming him to be her masterpiece. There are implications that her planning goes back to Grimm's initial Wonderland adventure, and obviously she had a major role in the background of BS1. Her leading Grimm on the ways to achieve the True End through her snowmen and her knowledge of DLC3 just reinforces the idea that she's not to be trusted. And don't forget that she secretly laid some plans with Leaf during the DLC3 flashbacks, plans that we still don't know the full extent on. Jabby is the most evil character in the entire series, and I fully expect her to come back in 3 with even more devious plans for Grimm.

This is flat out wrong. Prickett refers to herself as the second generation Red Queen in BS2, but she didn't play the role of the Red Queen during the tea party, she was just Alice then. The Queen of the Heart is an entirely disparate role, unrelated to anything involving Prickett. What exactly are you not clear on? The events of the VN as we see them in BS2 are largely a recreation by GG (the VN is one of the "Dinner Shows" that it puts on, as mentioned by Lorde and in the VN itself) of the torture that Mary put Lewis through back during his processing to create Grimm. GG lacks creativity, so it's stuck using blueprints that it already has if it wants to create something, which is something it directly admits to in Oxward. By necessity, this means that the core structure of the VN is something that the power to change has been used for before, as it has the blueprints for this torture and recordings of what happened (including commentary by Mary and the Bluebird of Unhappiness) as well.
Based off what is shown and said throughout the VN, the only possible explanation is that what is being shown is part of the process that Mary used to break Lewis's sanity, and stain his soul with sin in order to create Grimm (something strongly implied to have happened to all of the authors, thanks to the Hotel scene). Lewis's radio recording on Night 3 and Mary and the Bluebird's dialogue on the radio on Night 4 in particular give this away. Lewis's recording on Night 3 has him asking if he's a waxwork (which is something the poor fricker still thinks is the case as of BS2), asking if he's even in reality (he's not, he's almost certainly in a white room), and then the telltale sounds of gears giving away the power to change's influence over the whole scenario. Night 4's radio is basically a direct continuation of the shit that happened on Night 3's radio, with Mary and Bluebird commenting on Lewis's creativity and instability, and how it's being used to destroy himself. This fits the MO of the torture shown in the VN as well, as the the torture depicted in the VN is designed to exploit Lewis's worst impulses, breaking his sanity and staining his soul with sin in the process.

This picture is for you, anon. G is not fricking fake, the events shown genuinely happen. G, however, is not a cyclebreaker, the same as every other non-H ending in BS2. The events of G take place in Wonderland up until Grimm exits the white room, reaches reality, wakes up in bed and meets with Red (sans arm and Poro).
H takes place first in the Nursing Graveyard, an entirely different garden that was linked to Wonderland way back when, before moving on to Winterbell and the surrounding environs. Winterbell was originally Node's garden in the past, but she gave up the ruling authority of it to Prickett, who remade the garden into what we currently know as Queensland. There's also a few parts here that are later reused for the Library Dream once you're past the throne room. After killing GG you're spat back out to the collapsing garden and trying to escape like you were in G, and the final scene with Red on the bed takes place in reality.

Despite Jeanne being featured in Age of Empires and her PSP game being a strategy game, I've always been mediocre at the genre. A dear friend of mine kicked my ass in XCom when we did PvP together.

As long as we need it to. If you're gone for class, you can always continue play your turn when it gets back. The site is built to handle correspondence chess play like that.
Note about capturing: at full health, it takes an infantry two turns to capture a property (unless special conditions are met with Sami). If your health is lower, it can take longer. Artillery is an indirect unit. Normally, indirects cannot be moved and attack in the same turn. Artillery has 2-3 attack range, cannot attack adjacently, and has 6 movement. For further unit info, try consulting the following.

I'm not playing, but I remember it being very good if it's old AW you guys are playing. Infantry spam and artillery made up the backbone of a lot of shit IIRC.
Even ignoring the smaller maps, they're cost effective as frick, and unit count counts for a lot with how AW generally functions. Larger maps means you can't mindlessly spam them as much from what I remember, but they're still a fairly good strategy to go with there too.
Note: There's no point to capturing labs in this map. Sometimes there might be rulesets where capturing a lab unlocks certain units to use afterwards, or if there are no HQs, the labs take the place of them, but that doesn't apply here.

Not really, it's just a bit of a pain in the ass if it's your first run or something. You can still level/buy souls with the Chaos Dungeon, and buy items from shops across Wonderland.
To be fair, we're entering the part of the game where players start to make air units. On the other hand, it'll be very hard to move that unit around compared to an anti-air.

the bar indicate your turn and the amount of turn you get if you have higer speed or not to your opponent
its usually a good idea to just evade if you know they can rape you when you see their AP bar close to filling, or to guard if you're not confident in your EVA chances
you can also get an idea for how an enemy is going to act based on the status icons above its hp meter
for example, enemies who are rampaging (red howling beast icon in a black square) will always attack, unless they're charging a super move, which will be obvious based on other status action icons (e.g. the icon with a purple aura)
when this is happening you'll want to try a break or gun break attack. some moves can't be broken though, and need to be either evaded or guarded.

You don't really need to read any books to understand, as most fairytails are just an enemy/npc and by just knowing the overall plot of them you can undertstand what kind of twists the game pulls off, the only one that i do find obligatory is, of course, Alice in Wonderland from Lewis Carroll, because far too much in the games (and specially the second one) references that specific story
The "required" reading list is mostly just shit that BS references. If you really want to read shit, start with Alice in Wonderland, then move on to the other fairy tales, Black personman mythos, and stories people come from. If you think you've got a big enough dick afterwards, try reading the Bible and Paradise Lost, since those are very likely to be relevant in the future.

That Hatta line in particular is the most important thing I can think of referencing his work off the top of my head, other references to his works that I can recall are basically just that, references.
I think Shakespeare getting referenced in by far the most cryptic line in the game (matched only by the photo in the VN section) is a significant enough of a clue to pretty much guarantee his (major) involvement in later games.

Shepherds and sheep are kinda a big deal in the Christian doctrine. Milton also wrote pastoral poetry - most notably Lycidas, in which a young shepherd laments the death of his dear friend.
How it all ties into the BS series is currently unknown. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Milton turned out to be a Lucifer-like figure, given that:

That said, it's a Christian holiday, and Milton's shown to be a huge fan of said Christian theming throughout the game, what with the constant references to the ghouls as "angels", and Lingeriena's apparent references to her "Lord" that's the one telling her she can be an angel, and telling her to shepherd the souls of the Patients to Heaven. That last part in particular is also pretty interesting, because the phrase "Cosmos <Heaven>" comes up a few times in the game, from one of the Carpenter's messages and from Hein in the reverse route off the top of my head.

Milton, the God of Sheep, is someone that the player will probably first find out about from a looting a corpse in front of Red Castle Frissel and reading the Templar set, like you did. DLC 3 gives him a very subtle but major role in what's going on in the Nursing Graveyard, and more generally with what's going on regarding the ghouls. His sheep are present throughout the place at 0 SEN, including above Sackhead's door.
Now, where this gets interesting is who else is close to the ghouls and the Nursing Graveyard. Hastur, who was originally introduced in the Black personman mythos as a God of Shepherds, who you can find the Yellow Cloak from there in the Nursing Graveyard, and who pops Sackhead's head if you try raping her before giving her the viscera. He, like Milton, also has a brief allusion to him in the base game, in this case it's from the Bartender (Byakhee) in Lutwidge at 0 SEN, which decrypts to

It's also very, very much worth mentioning that the location where you first find the Templar set, Red Castle Frissel, is also deeply linked to the involvement of ghouls in Wonderland. More specifically, Lorina and Griffy are responsible for hunting down the ghouls that used to infest Wonderland, and kept killing them and transported them to the Slaughterhouse so they can be continually killed forever there. This was what was going to happen to Meryphilia if Grimm didn't intervene in the ghoul hunt quest that Lorina posted.
It's also worth noting if you missed it while playing, that the Nursing Graveyard and the Mental Ward are deeply linked together, with Florence establishing both locations and the Patients being in the process of ghoulification, though they're unable to finish their regimen and fully transform in the Mental Ward as opposed to them fully transforming into ghouls in the Nursing Graveyard.
I can probably say some more about it, but this is the gist.

So something I noticed is that some NPC's are still present when I am at 100 or 0 SEN, but others are not or are monsters at 0 SEN.
My guess is that NPC's who exist at both ends are more 'real' than the ones who are only at 100 SEN? Or that is that the monster-people do exist but that the negative effect of the world is strong enough for me to see them as monsters, but other NPC's are above this effect?
This was explained in the last thread, but SEN is a stat the determines not Grimm's sanity, but how strongly he is under the effect of 5th dimensional lovecraftian entities brainwashing him. 0 SEN and below are Grimm being able to see the world clearly - at least as clearly as he's capable of, anyway. Corpses and NPC's that disappear at low SEN values were never there to begin with, and NPC's that turn into monsters are simply Grimm witnessing their true forms; again, in as much as he is capable of perceiving them.
tl;dr 0 SEN or below allows Grimm to start seeing past the illusions and mindrape he's being afflicted with

I'm pretty sure this is a matter of Grimm's perception changing rather than them not existing. Grimm's capable of eating them for full heals, and looting them for spells, gear, and other items. It just doesn't make any sense for them to not exist at all. Same goes with 0 or 100 SEN exclusive shit like the fairy tales, they both still exist in the world and after they've been picked up by Grimm, they just are only visible at certain thresholds.

When did she do that? The only thing I can think of is that she's looser with the facade then the others, but that's just her rubbing salt in Grimm's wounds, and her part in Leaf taking over, but that was hardly an escape.
The biggest hint about how to "escape" in the base game is a snowman telling you what to do.
When she rapes you, she also expresses how you can just run away from everything and stop being a plaything for the gods.

GG is the vessel that contains Leaf's power of creation. Leaf had a much greater degree of control when shaping Gardens then the other Gods, so The Crawling One stripped her of that power and put it into GG to make a new Wonderland with (TCO's original Garden was just an infinitely repeating Tea Party before Leaf crashed the party).

Remember, her schtick with Leaf was due to her having an inferiority complex about being unable to create, since she can't create directly, she does so indirectly by corrupting others and turning them into monsters like her. She only loves Grimm in the sense that she's grooming him to be her masterpiece. There are implications that her planning goes back to Grimm's initial Wonderland adventure, and obviously she had a major role in the background of BS1. Her leading Grimm on the ways to achieve the True End through her snowmen and her knowledge of DLC3 just reinforces the idea that she's not to be trusted. And don't forget that she secretly laid some plans with Leaf during the DLC3 flashbacks, plans that we still don't know the full extent on. Jabby is the most evil character in the entire series, and I fully expect her to come back in 3 with even more devious plans for Grimm.

The cycles are purely a function of Mary's power to change, there is no reason for there to be cycles during the Tea Party as Mary's only known involvement with the tea party is her breaking in and taking shit at the end of it, long after TCO had fallen in love with Lewis.

This is flat out wrong. Prickett refers to herself as the second generation Red Queen in BS2, but she didn't play the role of the Red Queen during the tea party, she was just Alice then. The Queen of the Heart is an entirely disparate role, unrelated to anything involving Prickett. Said role in BS2 is strongly implied to have been originally played by the 4th Nightmare (Older Sister Alice) who vanished at some point prior to us starting the game.

Mary was not saved by Prickett, Prickett (aka TCO) is the one that's going to fricking murder her until Node steps in to save Mary's life. Why the frick Node does such a thing for Mary is beyond me, but it's a consistent character trait for her at least (see also: Red, Dinah). Node ends up convincing Prickett to instead help remove Mary's power to change from her and ensure that she'll never hold dominion as a Black personman again.

I do remember the VN having Leaf, Jabber and Bluebird appearing in the radio, and some mentions of Lewis Caroll going crazy and killing the birds, but none of it explicitly being a setup by Mary Sue
What exactly are you not clear on? The events of the VN as we see them in BS2 are largely a recreation by GG (the VN is one of the "Dinner Shows" that it puts on, as mentioned by Lorde and in the VN itself) of the torture that Mary put Lewis through back during his processing to create Grimm. GG lacks creativity, so it's stuck using blueprints that it already has if it wants to create something, which is something it directly admits to in Oxward. By necessity, this means that the core structure of the VN is something that the power to change has been used for before, as it has the blueprints for this torture and recordings of what happened (including commentary by Mary and the Bluebird of Unhappiness) as well.
Based off what is shown and said throughout the VN, the only possible explanation is that what is being shown is part of the process that Mary used to break Lewis's sanity, and stain his soul with sin in order to create Grimm (something strongly implied to have happened to all of the authors, thanks to the Hotel scene). Lewis's radio recording on Night 3 and Mary and the Bluebird's dialogue on the radio on Night 4 in particular give this away. Lewis's recording on Night 3 has him asking if he's a waxwork (which is something the poor fricker still thinks is the case as of BS2), asking if he's even in reality (he's not, he's almost certainly in a white room), and then the telltale sounds of gears giving away the power to change's influence over the whole scenario. Night 4's radio is basically a direct continuation of the shit that happened on Night 3's radio, with Mary and Bluebird commenting on Lewis's creativity and instability, and how it's being used to destroy himself. This fits the MO of the torture shown in the VN as well, as the the torture depicted in the VN is designed to exploit Lewis's worst impulses, breaking his sanity and staining his soul with sin in the process.

For the same reason that Grimm does. They're not some non-existent fairy tales, they were originally people that Mary Sue kidnapped and altered into their current roles and forms. Red in particular is strongly implied to have originally been a college student before this all started.

This picture is for you, anon. G is not fricking fake, the events shown genuinely happen. G, however, is not a cyclebreaker, the same as every other non-H ending in BS2. The events of G take place in Wonderland up until Grimm exits the white room, reaches reality, wakes up in bed and meets with Red (sans arm and Poro).
H takes place first in the Nursing Graveyard, an entirely different garden that was linked to Wonderland way back when, before moving on to Winterbell and the surrounding environs. Winterbell was originally Node's garden in the past, but she gave up the ruling authority of it to Prickett, who remade the garden into what we currently know as Queensland. There's also a few parts here that are later reused for the Library Dream once you're past the throne room. After killing GG you're spat back out to the collapsing garden and trying to escape like you were in G, and the final scene with Red on the bed takes place in reality.

Note about capturing: at full health, it takes an infantry two turns to capture a property (unless special conditions are met with Sami). If your health is lower, it can take longer. You can also join units of the same type together to bring health back up, but if you don't choose capture first, you'll have to start over again when it comes to joint caps like that.

I'm not playing, but I remember it being very good if it's old AW you guys are playing. Infantry spam and artillery made up the backbone of a lot of shit IIRC.
With standard AW's smaller maps, Sami mech spam was a lot more viable, to be sure. I'd Sami still has a use here, even if most maps are larger.
Even ignoring the smaller maps, they're cost effective as frick, and unit count counts for a lot with how AW generally functions. Larger maps means you can't mindlessly spam them as much from what I remember, but they're still a fairly good strategy to go with there too.

Note: black boats and landers can only pick up and deposit units when they're on shoal tiles. Don't expect any other naval units to be able to go through shoal tiles either.
Kot Hint: Subs can submerge! When underneath the water, they use up fuel much more quickly, but can only be attacked by cruisers and other subs. Plus, you'll need at least two units to take them out: one to reveal its position by being adjacent to it, and the other to attack.
