How about, and hear me out here, instead of changing benches, or pandering to other social nonsense, Blizzard instead tries making a good video game?

Shocking shit I'm sure, but they haven't done that in almost a decade so it might be time to retry that formula.

Blizzard is not capable of making good games.
So this is all they can do, generate good press so people forget the game is shit.

Granted, I don't really care about this? In real life that shit is actually fricked up. However in a video game changing it is moronic, because no homeless person is every going to play this game, so these benches really only effect well off white liberals who just want it so they can feel better about themselves.

And none of the people that would actually complain about this would never ever dream of doing something to help a homeless person in real life.

A game you could play for free on private servers, where they actually have GMs that might sometimes do something to stop the rampant cheating. Unlike blizzard who do literally nothing but add cash shop nonsense to milk more money from the unthinking masses.

That’s what all this “inclusivity” bullshit is. It’s purely performative when these companies make a big deal about “representation” in media and not actually in the real world. At most they’ll make a tax-deductible donation to some other organization that pretends to care, but pockets 90% for themselves.

I'm sure he used that 300 dollars he got all on the drugs. And after that day I never gave him anything ever again and I advise all customers to do the same. Have had to call the cops on him multiple times as well. Yes a lot of homeless people are bad, because good people don't just all of a sudden become homeless. To be homeless you need to have two things
              >have some sort of mental disability
              >be such a piece of shit to every single person around you that you push every single one away to the point that they are done trying to help you
Then you need to just be completely incapable of getting a job or making friends and wala you are a crazy homeless moron.

I could wake up tomorrow to learn that everyone in my family died and I got fired from my job, but I still wouldn't be homeless because of connections I have made I would be able to find a place to live for a short time until I could get another job and get my life back on track. There is a reason these people are homeless and isn't "muh gubmints" or "muh israelites" or "muh bad luck."

Hang out with people like this and you'll see the same thing. They'll walk by the homeless like they're a literal pile of shit, but then chastise you for not getting all worked up along with them over some media about the homeless and use it as a sign that you don't care.

That's when you throw it back in their face and demand they actually do something to help a homeless person. Give them food, offer them shelter, guide them to a place that can give them aid, anything besides posting on twitter about how much they care about the homeless.

This example with the arm rests is, but generally speaking it's not just about homeless.
A lot of this stuff affects people that just want to use public infrastructure for its intended purposes too.
Benches that are purposefully uncomfortable, parks where the shaded areas are forbidden from entry, bridges that are purposefully much steeper than they need to be, shit like that.

That doesn't address homelessness. It's the same non-answer as talking about benches.

The issue of homelessness is 99% mental-illness and/or drug addiction, not being without a place to live. People always make the mistake of the latter. "Just put that schizophrenic in an empty office. He'll get his life together."

It's a real thing. A lot of public spaces are designed to be as unappealing as possible for loiterers and homeless, that's the reason you sometimes have those super uncomfortable wire benches that purposefully dig into your legs for example, cities don't actually want people to use them for longer than a few minutes.

  27. 2 years ago

The only people who complain about hostile architecture are those who’ve never had to deal with the homeless. People need to accept that like 99% of the homeless are not poor down-on-their-luck decent folk, they’re drug addicts and/or crazy buttholes who cause trouble and stir up shit. More resources like shelters don’t help, because you can’t shoot up drugs there and they’d rather pass out in their vomit on a bench at the children’s playground.

I've dealt with the homeless and that's why I want real measures like a bullet between their eyebrows instead of minor inconvenience that doesn't fricking solve anything but make them even more belligerent.

Its existence is confirmation of that black activists were b***hing about how the LGBTQ+ movement was trying to co-opt their movements or ride the coattails at the very least. It also symbolically singles out the "browns" from the rest of the rainbow, separating the LGBTQ+ ones from the rest, as if their struggles as one of the rainbow coalition wasn't a shared one with the rest. It's amazing watching all of the absolute hate for it and realizations coming from it for those who didn't believe the canaries from the start calling where this would all eventually go (the black band on it is apparently for inclusion of AIDS victims)

America is such a moronic wasteland of brainlet appeasement. Instead of actually fixing the homeless problem with funded shelters and rehabilitation programs to get these people back on their feet, American society aims for the most bottom of the barrel shit like fricking benches that can't be slept on.

The most comfortable cities to be homeless have the most homeless people. More shelters means more people can withstand being homeless. Also if you don't aim for benches that can't be slept on, you get benches that can't be sat on because a homeless person is on it.

This did frick all to stop the emergence of hippies, punks, rock'n'roll, or any other form of 'degenerate' or anti-establishment subculture.
                >probably hairstyles ranging from short-medium in length. Women would have more room but men would probably only rock a slick wallstreet-esque hairstyle
Why? What's the problem with people being allowed to style their hair the way they want?
                >Ideally all of the US would strictly have this cultural lifestyle through the way discussed above.
Why is that ideal? I don't want to get rid southern BBQ food because that style of cooking isn't viable in the rest of the country and thus can't be made uniform.

Doesn't answer the question of why, and you are completely delusional if you think that you can somehow prevent the emergence of new genres of music. You would have to prevent all private citizens from owning musical instruments, completely cut off America from the internet and prevent all Americas from ever traveling, anyone else from ever visiting, you would have to destroy every radio that could pick up on frequencies playing different music and you'd have to turn the state into a totalitarian shithole that somehow enforces this.

not nesecarily. With proper weaponization of propaganda, over multiple generations, you can mold society, and the tastes of those society, whatever you want. If you compare the 1950's with modern times you can see a clear shift in values and morals, things intrinsically linked with the culture. this has been achieved through propaganda from reigning politicians and their weaponization of media. Both sides were in on it. The Democrats focused on the "muh rights" bullshit with eventual allusions and then sometimes confessions of it being about money, and the Republicans were pretty open about it being about money from the start. I'm sure opening the immigration floodgates and creating problems like crack epidemics also contributed to the whole "lol this costs too much" outcome, similar to how Europe faced the same strain on their social services in the 2010s.

Oh no. It's an entire western world thing these past ten years. At least in cities where nobody cares to walk over and slap the officials proposing it in a well mannered way.
Many places like metros now have these butt-height railings you can lean against instead of benches.Becasue they take up less space, and again, the homeless and the drunks can't sleep on them.

I'm not a drunk or homeless, but I still want to fricking sit down or lie down sometimes.

    >Removed Mcrees noose tag because they thought it offended black people? I don't think I ever saw a single black person complain about it.
    >Now they change a literal bench on a map for "muh realism".
Did anyone actually complain about this or is blizz just virtue signaling everything they do now?

      Anonymous

While this is absolutely stupid for "bad thing in game ddoes not mean bad thing in real life" reasons, admittedly the benches are pretty shitty even for non-homeless related reasons. Imagine you're just some old person walking around and your back or legs hurt so you figure you'l take a rest on a public bench - only to find the bench is intentionally uncomfortable so you can only sit on it for a very short period and in certain ways.

Anyway, Blizz is just losing their shit and to answer this anon's question , it honesty seems like 2 things together in some sort of horrible symbiosis

      >To distract from and look good in spite of their union busting, crunch, fricking awful game design issues, Kotick and similar stupid exec pay , and actual shitty work practices, the execs have basically turned the lever to "anything that could possibly offend anyone, especially 'marginalized groups" who will complain on twitter and make us look bad, gets tossed
      >Some of the employees that remain are basically politically correct everything-is-offensive stereotypes and they are now allowed to "bring these things to attention" and they claim that "X is problematic" and/or they find some Twitter moroon who claims the same thing and says "see, it needs to be changed"

So essentially we have a perfect storm. Some of the remaining developers are the oversensitive kind that have always held a grudge or found things offensive - WoW is a perfect example. Finkle Einhorn and all the major censorship changes last year in a patch .... one of the devs involved basically said "We saw these things were problematic for years so don't say NOBODY ASKED FOR THIS. WE are asking for this and now the bosses are basically letting us finally change it". Its a whole shitfricking situation mostly because ActiBlizz wants to wag the dog so they can get away with exploitative bullshit against players and workers alike, so they encourage this "problematic" smokescreen rainbow capitalism

Imagine you're an old person and you rest on a public bench, only to find out it has comfy arm rests for every seat

Just the implication the benches were bad had more weight that your own eyes. It's not a "bad thing in game" to begin with. It's a normal bench for normal sitting.

          Anonymous

These are never comfy, and the design in game doesnt necessarily look that way either. I could see an argument given the size, but if the rest of the bench is cushioned then why not also make them out of the same cushioned materials? Anyway if you want an armrest then you sit at the end of the bench. Putting them in the middle like that is constricting, prohibits stretching out or leaning even if you're the only person on it, and otherwise can be uncomfortable and inconvenient. "Normal" benches are not set up in that regard, there's a reason its an unusual design where a standard bench is one long unbroken seating surface. If they want multiple chairs like in an airport or something they can do that instead - and even those are considered uncomfortable as people b***h about how you can';t really relax on them too .

        qrd?

          Anonymous

Going back to WoW Vanilla ("classic" ) there was a Gnome NPC named Finkle Einhorn who, in UBRS and other end game areas gave certain quests - he was wearing a diving suit and was diving in the lava of Blackrock mountain. There were also items named after him, such as Finkle's Skinner, a dagger I remember my Hunter had which was also a skinning knife etc. Pretty innocuous right? He didn't say or do anything offensive, even "they" admit this.

          >So what's the problem?
The name is a reference to a 90s Jim Carrey movie called Ace Ventura Pet Detective, one of the movies that gave Carrey his start. Anyway, the bad guy named "finkle" basically crossdressed as a woman who's last name was "einhorn" in order to escape murder charges and in the finale there's a big thing about "finkle is einhorn, einhorn is finkle " that was basically a memeable joke of the era, ending with EINHORN IS MAN?! and Carrey's character throwing up because Einhorn (played by a biological woman and a relatively attractive one) was revealed to be a guy. To "prove" Einhorn's identity as the killer, Finkle, Ace Ventury basically pulls down Einhorn's skirt revealing a tucked bulge visible from behind and protruding, which then everyone starts to get sick and throw up as I recall.

Needless to say the trannies lost their shit that anything even tangentially connected to this was in the game, despite it being totally innocuous and just another Blizz old pop culture reference. Atop it Finkle wasn't even a troony, he was a killer who cross dressed specifically to escape prosecution but of course the problematic patrol figured even a gnome talking about dredging lava in a fantasy world was transphobic because of the names.

In their defense they're a lot more compassionate than the right whose main proposal is "stop being poor or we'll call the cops" granted the left have began adopting that mentality.
The issue is a lot of the other ideas are just plain bad and any attempt address any causes that'd ultimately only address small portions overall will never be popular. So it's easier to say "Why don't we turn hotels and vacant homes into free housing.

Do you know why homeless shelters won't let anyone under the influence in? Because those people simply can't be helped. In the EU there are systems in place to help these people but they can't be helped unless they make the first step themselves. They all have underlying causes for their homelessness which in many cases is addiction.

You can be sure that 90% of the people who complained about this bench in the virtual world completely ignore beggars in their day-to-day experiences, I have seen this repeated hundreds of times, people who are concerned about "social justice" but don't even consider these guys human.

Yeah, it's the same how they'll whine about Black folk to everyone and force everyone to adhere to some sjw bullshit standards of speech and societal existence, until a black person doesn't agree with them or toe the line, then they'll literally call them "Black folk" or "Uncle Tom" and tear into them in a way that is everything they b***h about.
