Alright Ganker I enjoyed the first two Dooms. I wasn't impressed at all by Duke3D because it just felt like a worse version of Doom. Now trying Blood I think it's awful.
Meleeing zombies over and over sucks. Trying to play around every enemy being a shitscanner is not fun at all and is incredibly restrictive and tedious (even when playing NotBlood with the hitscanner turns into fast projectiles, it sucks.) I want to fly around dodging enemies and shit, not pathetically hugging corners. Especially for how slippery the movement is; it doesn't fit a pseudo-tactical fps.
I'm thinking of binning this shit. What should I play next? Quake?
blood is waht you tell people you like when you wanna look too cool to just play doom
You should have a nice day
try marathon?
Press crouch and stop being a crybaby.
Blood is all about the level design and secrets.
i hate mimes
>Now trying Blood I think it's awful.
>Meleeing zombies over and over sucks
you're playing Blood
you're supposed to main Dynamite.
>Especially for how slippery the movement is
stop trying to play it like Doom or Duke, you're supposed to use the slippery movement to jump around like a fricking action hero or a ninja
Villains, aren’t we all
Every newbie has the same first impression about Blood and makes the same thread. I'm guessing you're still on Episode 1, which is very heavy on hitscan enemies. If you stick with it, the later episodes have much greater enemy variety so you'll have less hitscan cultists to deal with, and you'll start getting a lot more weapons/ammo to use. I think you'll like it if you stick with it, however -
>I wasn't impressed at all by Duke3D because it just felt like a worse version of Doom.
>(even when playing NotBlood with the hitscanner turns into fast projectiles, it sucks)
...makes me think you're beyond hope and should just go back to Fortnite
Doom is to Duke Nukem 3D as Street Fighter 2 is to Mortal Kombat.
That's wrong and makes no sense, homosexual
Caleb sings oh thank God for little girls he's just like me
> I wasn't impressed at all by Duke3D because it just felt like a worse version of Doom.
Duke 3D had way better level design than most late game Doom levels.
I bought Quake 1 and 2 remaster on switch. Never played any in my life and didnt have any chums that were into it either so just never encountered it or even really seen it in action all these years. BTW i loved Duke3d.
>Quake 1
>Ugly levels, this is the pioneer of brown shooters
>Either in a medival castle or a space marine base
>Incoherent cast, protag is a space marine, you fight halloween enemies, zombies, ghosts, leatherface knockofs, as well as some alien monsters and a fricking jellyfish to throw fricking wrench in the mix. Trust me you will remember the jellyfish when you encounter it. Most bullshit enemy ive ever seen in a videogame btw. All this is supposed to be Cthulu mythos related but its all just made up on the spot shit.
>Guns are all feel the the same and equate to one firing faster than the last one you picked up
Ive asked why Quake is so popular and it all kinda devolves into people not actually able to defend any of the above points and give a shit take like "I like the way it feels to move when you stick a rocket up your ass in the game and rocket jump". But devs patched out rocket jumping out of the game so its not even somethng that was intentional. Oh and the Trent Reznor circle jerk in this game is cringe as well as the rest of the NiN references in doom
Quake 2.... LOVE IT
>Coheret story
>Coherent cast
>Interesting Enemies and theres like 12 different types
>Guns kinda fall short again a bit
>Feels ALMOST like a modern shooter with dated polygons.
>But devs patched out rocket jumping out of the game so its not even somethng that was intentional
john romero's next game was daikatana which has a million weird gimmicky movement tricks like rocket jumping and even shotgun jumping
also even doom has rocket jumps
Its simple, Quake was the original
3D arena shooter. The campaign is like Doom, a bunch of levels killing demons in gothic horror settings. I don’t know why you’re saying Quake 2 has more
Enemy variety when Quake has plenty of enemy types, plenty of levels and how do the guns feel the same? How does the nailgun compare to stronger weapons?
If anything Q2 is the slower shooter with endless corridors, generic levels that all blend together with a “story” of a single soldier shooting through an enemy base.
Weapons for quake 1 were
>Shotgun
>Faster Shotgun
>Nail Gun
>Faster Nail Gun
>Grenade Launcher that lobs explosives
>Grenade Launcher that shoots explosives straight
And you get that by the 3rd or 4th within 30mins to an 1hour map so youve basically seen 90% of the games weapon depth way too early.
Is there any reason to use the Shotgun and Nail Gun after getting the upgrades? Always felt like in Doom the pistol should be replaced by the chaingun on the hotkey bar once you get it.
Yes, they conserve ammo and are all you need for lower tier enemies. And the single barrel shotgun is superior at attacking at long range.
i kept telling myself in disbelief as i played, "I finally found the game where your supposed to snipe with the shotgun."
the super shotgun has shit accuracy and wastes twice the ammo
super nailgun also uses twice the ammo but it's basically a direct upgrade
skill issue
Is there an audio question saying
>5-5-5 for Greenspring
At the beginning of this game anywhere?
Give Heretic a go. Most enemies don't have hit scan. I can't claim it's a challenging game, but it is fun.
>I want to fly around dodging enemies and shit, not pathetically hugging corners.
Then lower the difficulty, moron.
>Lightly Broiled
Fast paced action game
>Well Done
Corner hugging simulator
>I wasn't impressed at all by Duke3D because it just felt like a worse version of Doom.
huh
Ion fury.
I WOULD normally recommend Quake next, but frick you for knocking Duke like that. Duke has way more high effort level design, intractability, and verticality. The only valid complaints are episode 2's over reliance on kamikaze drones and how much of a cheat that shrinker is.
I wasn't even thinking of the drones when I wrote the OP. Jesus Christ those things are literally just Lost Souls but with four times as much health. Then there's the Battlelord Sentry who has a million health but also dies in one shrinker shot. Duke 3D is a stinker, and all the dancing strippers and one liners doesn't save it.
Those two criticisms do not amount to a game being a "stinker." They are nitpicks. Frick you, defend your stance with more reasons right the frick now.
>Debate me! Debate me!
Not really interested, sorry.
>Enemies cant have a fatal weakness?
Shrinking them is not an interesting weakness, it just means if I have 1 shrinker ammo I get to kill them immediately and if I do not it means I have to waste 25% of my total ammo reserves on one guy.
It's too bad they didn't think up the Blood/Half Life double barrel shotgun alt fire gimmick. Way more fun than having to swap shotguns all the time.
>Not really interested, sorry.
Because your only foundation for thinking so is purely one of you lacking skill.
I'm here to get recs, not get pulled into a repetitive 50 post back-and-forth with someone just as stupid as me where neither of us change our minds. Again, sorry if this inconveniences you.
That kind of makes me curious actually, what specifically are you looking for? Do you just want people to recommend a bunch of random boomer shooters? Because I'm sure you can find plenty of "top 10 boomer shooter" lists on the internet pretty easily. You apparently don't have much experience with the genre, so most of those games should be new to you.
I like how polished and minimal Doom is. I like weaving through projectiles and enemies at mach speeds rather than slowly taking corners and fearing for deadly hitscanners. I don't want bloated gimmicks or excessive numbers of redundant/indistinctive weapons. I also dislike hunting for keys, backtracking, and humping every wall looking for arbitrary switches.
if you really like doom you can just play the gorillion doom mods that are more polished and better designed than most studio release fps
besides that: heretic, shadow warrior, hexen 2, enforcer
newer: doom 2016 and eternal, turbo overkill, ion fury, ultrakill
I'm not interested in more Doom campaigns since after playing Doom 64 I think I've had enough of all of it for now. Heretic is probably the move if the weapons and enemies are more than tweaked reskins of what's in Doom.
>heretic
>tweaked reskins
Your mileage may vary here. I find them (and their behavior) different enough that I prefer Heretic to Doom. I also prefer the aesthetic.
the weapons and enemies in heretic are different enough that they don't feel like magic shotgun, magic pistol etc. also the tome of power and other items keep it interesting
enemies in heretic aren't all that remarkable but the weapons definitely are, partly thanks to the tome of power
>I also dislike hunting for keys, backtracking, and humping every wall looking for arbitrary switches.
Those are pretty defining of so called "boomer shooters" so it's strange you want those in particular at all. From that comment I can confidently say you'll probably hate Hexen though.
>It's too bad they didn't think up the Blood/Half Life double barrel shotgun alt fire gimmick.
It would have been nice if "altfire" was thought of a couple years earlier, but thankfully it became a genre staple.
Enemies cant have a fatal weakness? The pig tanks also self destruct with that button on the back. I think you are approaching this with jrpg numbers logic
Blood is indeed a mess. Quake is way better, although I prefer Hexen II.
>Meleeing zombies over and over sucks
Then don't do it. The game gives you plenty of ammo.
>Trying to play around every enemy being a shitscanner is not fun at all and is incredibly restrictive and tedious
Crouching makes it harder for them to hit you, and the game gives you ridiculous amounts of dynamite to throw around corners. Try alt fire with the dynamite.
doom was flat, Duke was kinda more Vertical and also had baddass cg cutscenes, also he talked
>doom was flat
not really
i think you're fricking moronic, zoomie
