I like half cash. Compared to CHIMPS, where the hardest part is knowing the one pixel perfect placement that lets you get beat x round and is then a mindless waiting game to round 100, half cash gives you a bit of breathing room in lives so you can play around a bit but obviously you're still heavily limited by cash.

Late game is less a test of skill and more a PC benchmark test and patience. any moron can get to round 400 on easy logs, the hard stuff is getting good race and boss scores, or clearing chimps on the hardest maps/with heavy restrictions.
I enjoy monkey teams for that reason, becomes more about mastery and understanding of each unit's strengths and weaknesses and making it work.

Get the More Monkey Money power, and the more xp power first
Never pay for any microtransactions. You'll get plenty of monkey money and monkey knowledge just by playing the game.
Don't do any of the events (races, bosses, odysseys, contested territory) or Co-Op until you've unlocked all the tier 5 towers. These are designed for players that have all tier 5s unlocked.
The first hero you should buy is Sauda because she makes the beginner maps a breeze for all modes and that lets you get the monkey money to buy the rest of them.
For most of the modes, you'll want to focus on saving up for a few tier 5 towers rather than spamming a bunch of lower tier towers.
Don't make all of your strategies revolve around farming since CHIMPs mode prevents farming and you won't be prepared for it otherwise.

Spirit of the Forest is a fantastic tower, at least for easy maps. And I mean ignoring its money making capabilities, on monkey meadow it probably can get to 90 by itself.

He generates like 1k per round for free, plus the 320(more if he's next to farms) from his ability.
