For a children's game, it is good design.

    ehh, depends
i mean usually i'd say yeah because if games don't do that, they just make it so you have to hit the boss a bunch which is fine but pretty basic
but occasionally some games do bosses interestingly where you can fight em many ways, like majora's mask
so i'd prefer more bosses like that but since that's probably not gonna happen, sure you can telegraph the weakness

dude it's a fricking giant blue waterbug with a human eye, pardon me for questioning the one logical aspect of its design

If it's logical, why would you question it?

to question why it has a needlessly realistic feature amongst a highly unrealistic design. moron.

It's to make it look unsettling. Have you ever heard of the uncanny valley? It's not just for robots and cg humans.

Why can't you mix fantasy with realism, again? Sorry, I missed the last conversation on "things that are ok with imaginary monsters".
Also, why is a big spider monster with a single big eye unrealistic?

Personally I’d like to discover a little more about Takeshi’s Challenge. I wonder if anyone here has played it and if anyone here has ever beaten it?

I honestly can't think of a boss with a weak point (or vulnerable phase) that's badly designed except for the bosses in Majora's Mask 3D because they just butchered them.

It's honestly a lot more difficult to design a boss that can be freely attacked and still keep it challenging and fun without just being easy (such as the bosses in the original Majora's Mask)

I'm going to say yes but I'm basing this on an old flash game I recently started to replay as a time killer

    >Generic "kill waves of enemies to progress" kind of game
    >But you use a bow and arrow
    >And bow and arrows are cool
    >Upgrade your shit, get some troops of your own and whatever
    >Everything is cool
    >Then you get to the final boss
    >Waves are now endless, I think his are unlimited
    >Meanwhile you're limited to how many you can have on screen at once, all of yours have a cooldown period, they all cost gold to use, and you have a limited population number anyway
    >Boss only has one weak spot and that's his head
    >Unfortunately he wears an impenetrable helmet
    >The only time he removes his helmet is when he does his attack
    >Which fricking instantly kills any of your troops it hits and covers such a massive distance it's almost impossible to avoid
    >Not only that but if you do hit him when he takes his helmet off there's all of these rabbis on the enemy side that instantly heal wounded enemies
    >The more they have the more hp they get back (you have them too, but you're limited to like 5 at any time but they can have an endless amount)
    >Then on top of that he creeps closer after every attack
    >You lose by having an enemy take your flag to their castle (or vice-versa) or by having your castle destroyed (if you destroy their castle then nothing happens)
    >If he reaches your castle then he just wipes it out
    >And you and all of your troops can accidentally kill each other, but the AI can't accidentally kill theirs

Whole thing is bullshit. It's not impossible, I've played it for years and completed it countless times. But it's still aggravating as frick every time I play it.
Really wish he would make a sequel.

It's good game design unless it's cryptic.

    >final boss has two eyes
    >one is already destroyed
    >can be cheesed by going to the bottom part of the screen and shooting it while it scrolls upwards
    >chances are you'll defeat it before it ever attacks

I genuinely am curious as to why they went with this design. Did Natsume think the boss was nearly impossible if you had to destroy both eyes?

It's shit. The best bosses are always ones that behave like normal enemies but with a big selection of moves that doesn't come out in amy specific pattern

The weak spot shouldn't be so cryptic you need to look up a guide, but it also shouldn't be so obvious it insults your intelligence.
