Regardless, they both should've got dual-typings. It's not fair that Kyogre didn't get one.
Groudon gets fire because things like volcanos and lava are fundamentally tied to things like tectonic activity and the formation of new islands and landmasses. Ice would make sense for Kyogre but not being ice type for it’s primal reversion only benefits it. Ice has no noticeable resistances to other types except itself. So Kyogre would have to worry about gaining neutral damage to a bunch of other types and a whole handful of new weaknesses like rock type moves. It will only benefit from STAB ice type attacks.
Kyogre is associated with storms as well as the sea, so it should have been Water/Electric

Kyogre can probably handle it thanks to its stats, but Groudon is guaranteed to get fricked up by a faceful of one-turn Solar Beam.
you'd be surprised, there's really not a lot of good grass types in hoenn. most of them fail to KO with solar beam and get roasted by a fire blast.
