Github is an open and transparent way of coders to work together on project. it makes a lot of sense given the codebase and userbase of such a site to use it. Especially since you're implying they've done anything wrong in this case.

They did do something wrong. They got fricked liked a b***h after seeing project and project get off github.
Instead they should have diversified their assets, and had multiple git repositories and backups, and made an alt on their forums to post them to continue development. It isn't even hard to do, just find some sites that host git and push onto there, it takes two CLI commands.

Hit the nail on the head. TF2 is a cash cow, they don't have to put forth a single bit of effort to make money from it, they take assets made by the COMMUNITY and sell them back to it. Then as soon as that same community starts a passion project that remotely threatens this money milking operation they nix it pronto. It's indefensible.

yeah I dont get it either. if it looks the same just play the original? it still exists

Better graphics, better performance, better physics, better network optimization, physics, hit reg, etc. Source is a janky old engine designed for shit internet and shit computers, modern systems and network connections are capable of a much smoother, more accurate, and all round better feeling game.

Source is just very dated and I don't mean graphically. All its tools are ancient and make it a pain for the community to make content. Being able to use somewhat modern mapping tools alone makes it worth it.

how is Valve the bad guy here?

No one would care if they hadn't promised to fix TF2 two years ago then did nothing. It looks really fricking bad for them because they refuse to fix the game but also shut down fan efforts to revitalize it.

Buddy they won't even update VAC or deal with the bots making the game unplayable, you think they give a frick? It's literally one guy at Valve dealing with the entire game. If it didn't make so much money they'd have shut it down and C&D'd any private servers in an attempt to force you to play one of their more profitable games.
I really like Valve's existing games but they stopped making them over 10 years ago.

        Anonymous

funny that the person reporting on this and trying to pretend its a big deal, and also constantly makes "news" videos about how TF2 is dead because of bots, is the cause of the bot problems because he helped leak the source code

        Anonymous

Because the source code leaked there's no way in hell for them to do anything about the bots without rewriting the whole game from scratch.

          Anonymous

There are ways to deal with bots that don't involve coding. The easiest is making the game P2P again and charge $20, making it totally cost-prohibitive for botters to just spam them in every server. Suddenly it goes from $0 to almost $500 just to fill one server with bots. Obviously the existing accounts keep their game but all the bots will end up banned in less than a month.

S&box is much more hand in hand with Valve though. It's literally the only developer outside valve who has been allowed a licensed version of source 2. There was definitely an angle where by s&box would be the face of source 2 modding. But the idea of it being the garry's mod for source 2 is definitely compromised when we can't even have valve assets in the game apparently.

While it was NEVER a bastion of high quality, even Itch.io saw a marked decline in what little quality it did have as heavily AI based games started coming in, like EXTREMELY noticeable. And it took them months to add filtering for AI games.

So the problem always is not the tools developers use, but the quality of their output. Solved by having a stricter quality standard.

You'll be able to filter the games out, valve is forcing the devs to disclose AI being used, if they don't they will violate the contract that they have with steam which is not a good idea.
