Talk about this series right fricking NOW
I was playing it a few weeks ago, it really is remniscent of final fantasy 3 (on DS) if that team made their own JRPG series. Is Final Fantasy 4 DS also in that chibi style?
Ff4 ds is not in the chibi style, no, its more realistic proportion 3d models. also your dream game is 4 heroes of light.
Nta but 4 heroes was great. I liked it a bit more than BD1.
it's because turn based whiners don't actually play the games they want. bravely default 1 is practically as close to a perfect turn based final fantasy as you can get. the main cast are literally warriors of light
Ganker only talks about bad, controversial, or shilled games. Threads about universally liked good games like Bravely Default don't get much traction because there's not much new to say about it
The first game is only half a game, a lot of people clocked out of that promising but shit franchise after that
>t. filitered
BD2 was kinda disappointing but I love Martha
Only thing I didn't like about BD2 was the story and artstyle
People kinda overhated the counter mechanic BDII, i mean, it definitly got annoying in the end-game bonus battles, but honestly for most of it was basically just saying "USE THE JOB YOU JUST GOT DUMBASS", it does make gimmick runs more of a hassle then they need to be though, but that is more a replaying thing.
I also have grown to appreciate how subdued Red Mage was for once when it is normally so Flamboyant. And the Thief design and outfits were amazing, honestly i would say costume designs for jobs were just really fricking good all around.
>USE THE JOB YOU JUST GOT DUMBASS
I mean, I didn't use a job I just got for a boss - having to constantly switch to new jobs means both having to constantly grind JP for the new job, and being deprived of the skills you were using previously.
Making only one job viable in a situation where there's 20-odd jobs, you can only have 2 on any character at a time, and you have to put a lot of grinding into a job to get anything out of it isn't my idea of good design.
Never felt that way to me tbh, rather that most of the game was way undertuned once you put together any decent build at all until you hit the late/postgame where you need to go for the broken shit or make builds specifically made for the challenges
But overall I think the counters weren't great design, because it turned a lot of people off, while not even making the fight design more interesting, you can still stomp all of them with the same OP setup
>you can still stomp all of them with the same OP setup
And if you try anything different you get 4XBrave 4 times because the enemy party charges to full with every action. The stupid counter mechanic only did worse.
And Octopath is doing pretty decent while being a job and turn based RPG too, and pushing the studio flagship 2H-HD.
>People kinda overhated the counter mechanic BDII
It was always a skill issue
Wizard in BS was great, I loved the way the class could modify its own spells and other classes'. Wizard/Summoner was extremely fun.
Spell Fencer was fun when sticking it with any other physical class, ninja was especially fun to use with it because of dual wield + increased attacks/turn cap.
I wish more job combos had interesting interplay between their abilities like that. Two skillsets that actually interact with each other instead of two individual tools that don't influence each other at all.
I loved the first but the sequels have gotten such immensely negative reception from fans that I avoid them.
>but the sequels have gotten such immensely negative reception from fans
And by "fans" you mean just Ganker right?
Yes
Second got screwed over by having a butchered localization more then anything, II basically suffers more for not leaning into MUH META for the story and the counter mechanic (and consequences of said mechanic) more then anything, and arguably being too much like BD1 and "safe" in terms of job selection (In other words, nothing as out like BS had aside from maybe a couple of the ones at the very end, so no Wizard shenanigans).
It was GOTY until the last month or so
BD and BS are awesome. BD2 in meh
It's not that complicated, BD2 is just a worse game in every way compared to the 3DS ones. It doesn't even really look better, that's impressive. Music, gameplay, jobs, story, QOL, everything else is clearly inferior. Still a decent jrpg but the franchise is probably done.
>BD2 is just a worse game in every way compared to the 3DS ones
*bravely second
I'm not a fan of the job system. I don't really like switching out my class for another whenever I hit max and I think it's why I prefer the dragon quest games
Love BD and BS, somewhat like BD2. I wound up skipping literally every single second of dialogue in BD2 and that made the game much more enjoyable, plus the minigame is addicting, and I even kinda like the art style, but I think any fan of the series can admit that it's not a great follow-up. I can't even convince myself to replay it when the 3DS entries are better in every conceivable way. So when 1/3 of the series is not great, is it really so different from Final Fantasy?
Don't forget about Dimensions. No matter how much Square wants you to.
I was playing bd2 on steam and I really loved the game, I would like them to port bd1 to pc, I remember playing the demo years ago on my old 3ds and I loved the music and art
definitely deserves more attention
>I would like them to port bd1 to pc
Since it was made for 3ds they probably don't want to go through all the effort to make it for consoles/pc
Turn-based gays are the same type of fricker who overhypes immersive sims or arena shooters.
They don't actually play games and only want to sound smarter than other people.
When you actually release a turn based game they will complain about it not being exactly the same thing as one of the games they overhype.
Also the characters in BD sucked dick, same with the plot.
I keep forgetting that there are two more Bravely Default games.
I enjoyed the first, even if elements of it were a little underwhelming.
I just never have space in my backlog for the sequels, and I haven't seen anything shown about them that makes them tempting enough to move up the list.
Sell me on them Ganker.
in-order command pauses are not turn-based
Whatever helps you cope.
knowledge does that for me, not sure what you use but it's clearly something besides that
Bravely Default sucks ass. It's also only vaguely similar to older FF games and not at all to the VII through X period that most people lament the death of.
