The fact that it might be on par means that it is. Deck is already showing its age with Legion Go and Ally sequels being developed. The Switch 2 is going to look like an absolute dinosaur compared to umpcs just around the corner.

That just means it's still weaker but maybe if a game is optimized well enough it won't be as noticeable how weak it is. Devs could optimize for the deck as well if they wanted. All comes down to sales and how hard they try or if they care.

Not to mention, that's just portable mode. Docked mode will be 2x more powerful that that. And that still doesn't take DLSS into account.
All of that's in a slimmer, cheaper, lasting longer on battery package.

        Anonymous

You are aware that handheld mode for the switch is just it neutering itself to save battery life, right, it doesn't get any power the dock is just a port hub. If you think nintendo is going to be putting any actual power in the dock there's not a chance in hell of that happening, it would cost way too much.

More to the point it would frick with switching because now you're going to need to power cycle it so it isn't using this extra shit. It's the same reason they won't be adding storage themselves.

It's supposed to be seamless plug and play. Requiring people frick with it means less people want it.

It would also be unnecessary and wasted on the tons of people who'd only want it as a handheld. A bad idea all around.

          You got it ass backwards.
It will be 3TF docked, clocked down to 1.5TF when portable (on par with Deck).
That's the entire point of it being a hybrid, unlike Deck which is just a handheld.

Actually it'll be 15 gigahomies clocked up to 5700 galacticnuggas when they introduce the super dock with every purchase for free. The deck, with its ability to just customize the settings whenever you want instead of it being forced on you, will not compete with switch2's dock made of solid black diamond.

Games will be developed down to the lowest capability. Because it needs to run portably. Then extra amount of "power" it gets from the dock will just give you better frame rate and resolution.

But everything else will have to be developed down to the portable specs.

          Anonymous

          That doesn't change much.
Games will be developed for 3TF docked and have lowered resolution and/or FPS to run at 1.5TF portable.

          Anonymous

          >will just give you better frame rate and resolution
You mean just resolution. Resolution kills frame rate.

It's why you hear so many morons complain about FPS in shit like BotW and TotK. They're playing docked while handheld has almost none of the problems they mention unless you go out of your way to cause it because it's not upping resolution.

Yes, if you surround yourself with enemies and light everything on fire it slows to a crawl but there's a reason everything is relatively spaced out. You're not intended to have much shit on the screen at once, let alone at higher resolutions.

      Hilarious if true.
Given the massive strides in ARM chips recently, Nintendo is fricking kidding themselves if they think releasing with anything less than those new hyped up Qualcomm chips is viable.

Per-console optimizations are an out of date concept and largely originate from the period where consoles had meaningfully different architecture.
Modern consoles are average x86 PCs with a different API. I guess the Switch is instead an average ARM tablet with a slightly different API, but still.

The Switch was, and is, an absolutely dogshit console and an offensively cheap piece of garbage that is uncomfortable to play, had to get a class action to fix their controllers and has slightly less power than an Xbox 360.

And yet it sold incredibly well. The paypig public very clearly is happy to buy low quality slop, so Nintendo logically should continue to fill their trough with garbage.

I know at least 13 people who own a switch. One of them has taken it out with them enough times to remember it. We've had this discussion a million fricking times because the one who does insists it's a huge selling point when in reality most people don't seem to give a frick.

Actual reality takes precedent over anecdotal reality. And actual reality states half of all switch users use the switch primarily in handheld mode which means about 70 million people seem to give a frick about portability. Btw portability doesn't mean only playing while on public transit or at the park. It just means it's not tethered to a power source.

You buy a videogame machine to play videogames not to jerk off to the technical specs, which is why the Switch is still selling far more despite being a 7 years underpowered tablet.

It's not going up against the no games PS5 or xbone, it's going up against pc which has VASTLY more software that the switch wish it had and all the switch's and nintendo's software in general, but let's ignore that for now. Switch 2 isn't going to release with no other handheld on the market like the Switch did and have free reign for years, like the Switch did. It's going to immediately force comparisons, like it's already doing with the deck. If it doesn't stack up it's going to lose a lot of people before they buy in. There are not that many diehard dedicated Nintendo fans, most people bought the Switch for portability and the sheer number of games. If PC can do that better in its own handhelds now, that's a problem for Nintendo.

Same games as every other console minus some keyboard required RTS, early access, and Valve 1st party software. Your argument also works against the Steam Deck because steam deck is a vastly inferior PC compared to any laptop or desktop.

PC has far more exclusives, organically, than all consoles combined. The amount of games on steam alone is well over ten times the switch's library.
              >Your argument also works against the Steam Deck because steam deck is a vastly inferior PC compared to any laptop or desktop.
Just like the gameboy was vastly inferior to the nes and snes, yet sold more than both those systems combined. Or how the 3ds was inferior to the wii u, but sold 7 times as much.

This is always beyond wishful thinking. If people just wanted Nintendo software, Nintendo's home console line would still exist and it wouldn't have had constant flops. The one except to that in nearly the last 30 years was the Wii, which only sold to casuals because of a hardware gimmick.

No, you haven't thought it through.
Wii U didn't have Pokemon, 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, 3D Zelda (released on more popular hardware at the same time), Smash released on 3DS first. What it actually got released in between long software droughts due to Nintendo having to split resources between two systems.

Wii U didn't, but N64 and GCN did. Nintendo's handhelds have historically crushed their home console line. The Wii U was just a return to the trend after the Wii.

Most people don't know what the frick a Steam Deck is, much less have the technical know-how to understand such comparisons. And anyone who does understand would know that "power" isn't a single number. Switch 2 will have a custom OS, much lower-level APIs, and Nvidia-specific stuff like DLSS and increased RT performance. That's what really matters, not the TFLOPS.

There we go, that's the real argument in Nintendo's favor. Nintendo will bank on consumer ignorance as they typically do, same strategy as Apple. But you can bet a lot more people are about to learn about the Deck and other competitors, or view them as a lot more attractive, when they're being asked to buy into another $400 system.

Anon...I thought you were trolling but now I think you're actually moronic, so let me break this down for you.

Valve doesn't sell the Steam Deck in every country on earth, Nintendo does. This alone cripples its sales. Steam Deck isn't on shelves and doesn't exist for 90% of consumers because its mail order for people who are already in Valve's ecosystem, so it has terrible advertising as the only people who know about it are already customers. Valve has Zero, and I mean like literally zero not a single god damn 1, exclusive and good games to compel people to buy the steam deck.

I want you to think about that. Why the frick would someone pay 400 dollars to buy a console with no games? So it can play modern AAA slop at 1/10th the resolution, with worse frame rates and more compatibility problems? So they can play old games from 3+ generations ago that already run on their current smart phones? So they can play away from their computer for 2 hours until the battery dies?

The steam deck is akin to the playstation portal; it has its uses for people who want to move around their house while they play most of their games on their stronger hardware, but you would never buy that overpriced toy unless you were already a hardcore drone for the company in question. It is a niche piece of hardware, not some legitimate console. Specs mean nothing compared to games, as the fact the Switch is dominating the console market can show you.

Anon, nintendo owns at least FOUR very strong brands that help carry their system. You have to be a complete Black person to ignore them. Steck Deck had multiple physical advertisement events. Steam has multiple exclusive games, Valve just doesn't pay for exclusitivity and of course there is nothing inherently exclusive to Deck.
Being away from your computer doesn't mean you have no energy source.
Phone comparisons are dumb because the mobile game market intersection is laughably small. At release

The target demo it reached on steam is small, there is a very small crossover between people who want to play games on a PC and people who want a handheld portable PC to play games on, and that group shrinks even more when you remove people who would still rather just have a laptop for a portable option option for PC gaming.

It's funny how right you are but how wrong you are at the same time. The deck is kind of an autist hobbyist thing, most people looking for a handheld are looking for a plug and play experience, mostly parents looking for something for children, the new switch will also have a better price point and first party games, all that combined with the normie name recognition across generations I don't see a world where the steam deck has any effect on switch sales or vice versa. I don't have a horse in the handheld shit, but I wouldn't even consider the switch and deck as competing, their target audience has a pretty small overlap.

              >The deck is kind of an autist hobbyist thing, most people looking for a handheld are looking for a plug and play experience
That's the thing, that's what the deck is and is getting better at all the time. It's what made deck such a big deal. The only reason the deck is not flying off the shells is because it's getting practically no marketing, is not in any retailers and isn't in most countries. That could change with the deck 2 if valve thinks it's ready for that, but even if it doesn't it kickstarted what valve wanted to achieve, which was better handheld competition for pc.
              >the new switch will also have a better price point
The funny thing is you can get a deck for cheaper than a switch right now. Refurbished, sure, but cheaper because valve is being incredibly competitive with the price. The switch 2 is not going to be cheaper than the switch.

                >things could change if valve changes them
Sure anything can change if it changes lol but as things stand now, Nintendo has far more name recognition than Steam or valve could ever hope for, if I showed my grandmother Gordon freeman she would be confused, if I showed her Mario she would know exactly who it was, that's my main point. Regardless of anything else Valve decides to do or not do marketing wise, Nintendo always will have a huge jump up on that front with non autists.

I disagree that the switch won't have a lower price point than the deck, and even if it is the same as a deck I would still doubt it wouldn't be lower than the next deck iteration, but will concede that it's possible for it to have a similar price point, but regardless of that I think the first point I was talking about matters sooo much more than you think it doesn't.

Valve doesn't have to market their own games. They can market games like BG3 and tens of thousands of others. Nintendo does have brand recognition with casuals, but Valve has a hell of a lot more leeway in what they can show off and sell something like the Deck with.
                >I disagree that the switch won't have a lower price point than the deck
The Deck can already be officially bought right now for cheaper than a base Switch and Valve isn't even doing one of their sales which they've been pretty good about. This isn't a matter of disagreeing, it's a simple fact. They are being extremely competitive with the price.

Again, Nintendo has the die hard tendie gays in the autist camp, and they don't care about anything that isn't on Nintendo hardware, and the normie child audience also only really cares about their first title stuff and something like fortnite, which the switch can play. And the switch 2 will play, they have enough 3rd party support regardless of that just based on their brand recognition (which is part of why I personally believe valve made the deck in the first place, but that's a whole different thing) regardless so I don't see that as any sort of advantage for the deck
                >a refurbished deck is less than a switch so the price point is better
Ehh, again I'll concede the price point thing is possible, but I'll believe it when I see it, Nintendo is great at peddling cheap shitty hardware, I Aldo never said the deck wasn't competitively priced, just that the switch will be cheaper, and that (or even a matching price point) paired with its extreme brand loyalty and recognition, will still result in better sales for the switch, I could be wrong here, but I would be surprised if I was.

                >Again, Nintendo has the die hard tendie gays in the autist camp
I know, I used to be one of them. One of those 13 million who bought a Wii U. I've been with Nintendo through all their video game successes and failures. I have bought every Nintendo system up until this point. I'm not going to do that anymore because the Deck and PC is just so much better and I wish I did it sooner. Obviously I don't speak for everyone, but if that simple fact can be conveyed to the masses and the hardware readily available and easy for them to buy, then that'll be real interesting to watch.
                >just that the switch will be cheaper
The Switch Lite is cheaper. But I have a very hard time believing that the Switch 2 will be less than the $270 you can get the cheapest Deck for. I'm expecting $400, at best $300 with some real caveats to reach that price, and that'll still give Valve a year or more to lower the price of the Deck even further.
                >will still result in better sales for the switch
Oh I'm not arguing the Switch 2 won't outsell the Deck. It absolutely will due to the reasons you said, as well as actual marketing and retailer/country presence. Just that I think it's going to lose significant marketshare and that it feels like the beginning of the end times for consoles.

I can agree that there is room for a decent shift in the market when it comes to the switch 2, and newer decks, but I think the price point deal is going to be a large factor, and only really with the hobbyist audience, although when you lay out the numbers plainly, it is a more compelling argument that they will be comparably priced.

                >less than the $270 you can get the cheapest Deck for
There's also no real downside to that deck, unlike a switch lite, which is just a kneecapped switch. The only difference is memory that you can easily replace or add to. Expecting the average person to do that is farfetched, but it's totally viable for anyone who should know better.

                >no? I think realistic graphics are the opposite of cool
They're in the same boat, they're excess not making the game better.

And yet you are arguing for the inclusion of non-gameplay, so much of it that you spend hour after hour NOT playing the game. IF you liked the game, the very thought of a cutscene interrupting you should be like boiling hot acid hitting you in the face.

After all, you did complain about "narrative experiences". You can't turn around and change your mind.

                >They're in the same boat

                >So it wasn't sold at 60 dollars, with obscenely expensive DLC?
it was sold at 60 dollars and had 30 dollars DLC that added 30 hours to the game. the price of a game doesn't reflect on their budget tho

It's not gameplay though. I should be having more button presses. Every single last moment should be something that I'm actively influencing. If there's any more than a 5 second delay in button presses, then I'm not having fun.

                >nah. good animations is a pretty important thing in a game
That's just gaslighting by graphics designers looking to get paid. A game can look like an atari game, with nothing but t posed characters hitting eachother like they were in a gmod video, and it would still be better than overproduced cinematics.

                >it was sold at 60 dollars and had 30 dollars DLC that added 30 hours to the game.
Exactly. Spent way too much money on too little of a return.

                >I use the attack, I see it happening
That's no different from walk-and-talk segments in a western game. "I'm technically pressing forward, it's gameplay!" Again, it's hypocritical to complain about narrative experiences, while arguing that cutscenes belong in an interactive medium.

                >what good games have you played that don't have any animations?
Pong, Tetris, Minecraft, the list goes on. Modern gamers have been suckered into thinking that games need to be pretty.

                >well video games aren't my masters,
Missing the point. Where a cutscene exists, gameplay cannot exist. You are thus pushing out one to embrace the other.

                >I don't know but two 100 hour games in a generation seems pretty good to me
And 90 hours of that was cutscenes. Just doesn't seem like a valid return on investment.

                >nah. it sounds like you can't accept that people don't agree with you
I'm just pointing out hypocrites. You don't get to complain about narrative experiences while championing JRPGs, which are objectively unable to function without their narrative. The gameplay is so terrible that it falls apart in seconds.

                >it is. the walk and talk sequence doesn't give me a choice. in combat I can chose to use or not those attacks
Does the combat give me the option to kill off the characters, so they stop talking? Because no matter they never stop making snarky quips. Is there also an option that involves me more in combat? Autobattling is boring. There's not even any verticality. For a non-turn based series, you just sit on a place and watch the characters autobattle without you. It's a glorified cutscene.

                >I don't complain about them, I just don't play them
i literally linked you to a post complaining about narrative experiences.

                >pong and Minecraft objectively have animations. what do you think you see when a creeper walks or when you attack? I'd say that Tetris is debatable since the most animations we see is the player turning the blocks
The point is that their budgets are rock bottom, and can be made with a few people, max. No game should need nor demand more.

                >that quote is about worship and worship only
Well, I hate to say this, but you're kind of worshipping the cutscenes and story. You directly imply that the games would not be playable without them. like lacking context would suddenly suck away all of the fun from the gameplay.

                >in what sense exactly?
See above. You should be able to enjoy a game even if there was no graphics, music, story, menues, title screens, or anything. The bare gameplay should be all that matters. When you don't adhere to this, you end up with snoy movieshit, where the spectacle is more important than the substance.

                >again this sounds a lot like projection

I like games like Terraria and TF2, where you can downgrade the graphics and strip all the elements out until it's nothing but purple error messages and developer textures. None of that matters as long as the gameplay is good, and the difference here is that I'm not arguing that the games can't function without it. Infact I'd argue that the games would be better without the graphical clutter.

People here are like "the switch 2 doesn't need more power, the gameplay is what's important" but to spite me, they suddenly turn around and argue that graphics and storytelling and music are so damn important.

the fact that it was simple enough so that they could port the game to mobile. prior to the mobile version I'm pretty sure the game sold around 40 million units but after that they managed to get it to 300 million (technically they count the sales of every Minecraft version together but not may people played the Minecraft story game so it's not relevant)
                >And what good are the visuals when they get in the way of the gameplay?

                >I have no idea what you're talking about
It's a general sentiment of the fandom. They get angry at the mention of Nintendo games suffering from excess and wasteful spending.

                >the fact that it was simple enough so that they could port the game to mobile. prior to the mobile version I'm pretty sure the game sold around 40 million units but after that they managed to get it to 300 million
None of this inflated the budget, which is why it was so cheap to make. No ultra realistic graphics or cinematic storytelling or even voice acting. That's all time and money saved which is a good thing.

                >try playing minecraft, terraria or TF2 blindfolded and see what good are the visuals
I'd honestly have a better time than playing a bloated snoy movie.

Aren't you the one who admitted yesterday that you attack fanbases you don't like by saying the games they like suck? Why the hostility?

                >Aren't you the one who admitted yesterday that you attack fanbases you don't like by saying the games they like suck?
Incorrect. I judge a game more harshly depending on the fanbase. I try not to at first, and judge the game by its own merits. But if it's a mediocre game, and the fandom doesn't help, then it's gonna hurt the score.

And only a mediocre game would sell on graphics and storytelling and anime breasts.

                >Incorrect. I judge a game more harshly depending on the fanbase
That's what I said. You critique gameplay unfairly when you don't like the people who play the games. Essentially you're critiquing the fanbase and not the game itself.

Also since you're talking to me again: Do you still have that AC6 webm of strafing left for 8 seconds while watching a cinematic cutscene? Can you post it and tell everyone that you used that webm as an example of good gameplay?

well the port didn't come from nowhere. the updates that the game got over the years didn't either. the budget for a game that is in constant development is in constant growth, with mojang having hundreds of employees basically just to work on minecraft
                >I'd honestly have a better time than playing a bloated snoy movie.
but if you don't play these games like that all the time you're still playing with graphics. don't you see how silly this all is?

                >why are you even talking about fandoms here?
the fandom regularly complains about narrative experiences, and yet they defend JRPGs. It's hypocritical. And I blame the whole fandom for this logical contradiction, since not enough people call it out.

                >well the port didn't come from nowhere. the updates that the game got over the years didn't either
I don't count the game after a certain point of development, since it got way too bloated. I only uphold early Minecraft as a good example of not wasting money on the budget.

                >but if you don't play these games like that all the time you're still playing with graphics
I have no attachment to the graphics. They can be taken away at will, and it doesn't bother me. That's what I'm trying to get across.

                >give an example of a narrative experience
Any game where the story is given way too much importance over the gameplay, to the point where large swathes of the game are dedicated to exposition. Uncharted, Modern Tomb Raider, TLOU, etc. I figured Nintendo fans would be on my side with this, but the industry found out that people will buy movie games en masse if they have anime breasts in them.

                >that isn't the product that achieved everything the most recent version did
You're right. The most recent version is basically a new game compared to the old version. That's why I like the old version. Pre-hunger. I'd rather not have the new features if Microsoft is gonna bungle the whole thing.

                >so you only play these games blindfolded?

                >don't you think it's silly to compare those games with JRPGs in general seeing that they're longer?
Length doesn't mean anything. If Uncharted was 1000 hours long, would that redeem the terrible gameplay or bloated and obnoxious story? A ratio only justifies so much.

                >so you think only nintendo fans dislike those and like JRPGs?
With the upmost respect, a rational person would dislike both. Or at least understand the core failing of a JRPG, which is that it "wants to tell a story". That should already be a red flag for any gaming enthusiast.

                >so why were you mentioning the games taking away UI and textures if you don't even see them?

                >that doesn't really answer my question
It's not just Nintendo fans who should hate cinematic walk and talks, but it's hypocritical for anyone to turn around and worship JRPGs.

Tough luck. Switch only got cracked so fast because it used a chip with a security hole that was well documented and exploited a year before it even released.
Switch 2 uses a custom SoC.

The SoC they're using is technically custom as well anon.

Being customized doesn't mean it lacks the security flaws present in the base.

You can customize your PC set up all you like but it still has all of the same security flaws as the release version unless you went through and fixed them yourself.

    This is quite likely.
The deck is not sold with a big margin, only via valve direct and starts at approx.. 500 USD for the OLED model.
Nintendo wants to earn on HW and sells the consoles at retailers or online stores who also need to earn something in each console sold.
Even if the Switch 2 is the same price as the Deck, it would probably be less powerful, as those 500 USD would include margins for two parties vs. hardly any margin.
In reality, the Switch 2 will probably only cost 400 USD max. So yes, it's likely way less powerful then the Deck.

      DS vs PSP
      Wii vs 360/PS3
      >Pii U lmao
      3DS vs vita

Point is they’ve never been afraid to roll out shit hardware, they learned early on that the name of the game is the games. Switch 2 could just be switch 1 with a coat of paint and it would still sell gangbusters for bing and Zelda. Switch 2 is gonna move a frick ton of units if it isn’t a total failure on the tier of the Pii U, you guys need to come to terms with it already. If it can run PS4 games more or less like the leaks claim then it’s even more likely to do serious numbers.

Lateral thinking with withered technology is why they’re so fricking cash rich and basically not anywhere near at risk financially if they had a dozen flops console wise.

Only reason I said all that was to show that historically Nintendo doesn’t mind rolling worse hardware out. • 2 weeks ago

No smartphone can do it due to formfactor and stricter heat requirements than the switch has to deal with.
A $2000 tablet definitely could. Or honestly a tablet in the $600-1000 range.
Modern ARM chips have advanced leaps and bounds in recent years. The graphical power of the M2 Max has proven to be pretty decent, for example, and while there's few examples it's pretty safe to say it can do 30fps ports of PS5 games.
Obviously that chip's too big for a switch, but a switch also needs a fraction of the CPU power.

Nintendo doesn't optimise, they simplify. They go for stability rather than bleeding edge. They've never bothered with being the best hardware. So this really means nothing. Also at least Nintendo has the balls to sell in Australia and uphold those consumer protections. Valve is so hackneyed and garbage they're too afraid to be held accountable for their product.

      >Also at least Nintendo has the balls to sell in Australia and uphold those consumer protections
      lol
The joke here being that Australia sued Valve for not offering digital refunds, something Nintendo still does not do. In fact they're the only ones who don't. Meanwhile Valve didn't have to offer refunds globally, only in Australia, but they still made it available to everyone.

        >Nintendo doesn't do
Yes they do. Just not to other countries. They have to, to sell things in Australia. They sell the switch in Australia, the steam deck isn't sold in Australia.

          Anonymous

That somehow makes it even worse that they would only do it in australia because they're forced to and nowhere else. God forbid they ever stop treating their consumers like shit.

            Anonymous

You miss the point, it's not about exclusivity, it's about companies being forced to take responsibility for what they sell you. The best result would be them upholding the same consumer protections they have in Australia, everywhere.

They will only refund a digital purchase in Australia if it's literally defective or damages your device and no other reason or leeway. Even then, only in Australia.

Nope, legislation also covers if it's been falsely advertised or is not fit for purpose. It also means that terms cannot be changed after the purchase has been made, so EULA is unenforceable. Ultimate it means they have to actually sell you what they claim to sell you.
It should be a basic commercial understanding of both parties being honest, instead of "caveat emptor" bullshit where only the purchaser has to be honest.
The thing that is actually confusing is why people would actually defend the latter instead of demanding the former.

A very good point. Nintendo's consoles have buy and large sold off of portability and innovation. If it's just another Switch but a little more powerful and can play some newer games that everyone has already played, the general public will consider it a lot more boring. The Switch had incredible marketing, but I don't see "you can dock it! again!" making the Switch 2 fly off the shelves. If it's just something like that I expect it to sell about half as much.

Nintendo will give preference to battery life above all else. That's why it underclocked the already weak Nintendo Switch (even in docked mode, as a way of ensuring that there isn't too much disparity between the modes resulting in games that don't run well on the handheld mode).
If you force Deck to its full potential, it will drain the battery in less than an hour. Nintendo won't accept something like that.
They can't work miracles in terms of battery either, even if the system is more optimized because of its mobile nature.
Finally, DLSS is far from being the miracle people think it is, like all of NVidia's AI-based technologies, it only gives acceptable results when you're already starting from a decent base resolution, so it's more like "if it's good, it can get even better" than "if it's garbage, it can get acceptable".

      Anonymous

Based dlss truth, wish it was more versatile, and some day it will be I'm sure, but as it stands the only thing it's good for is upscaling 1080p or higher to 4k.

No we understand it. The problem is "spiritual success" isn't a language we speak in the big leagues. Steam deck is a flop by all objective measures. You're allowed to be a fanboy of it however. But keep the success talk to your reddit and resetera echochambers. They understand you.

Deck and Switch are not competitors because the Switch gets along well with a PC, thanks to its exclusives.
I have a good PC, with an RTX3090, a super low latency monitor that allows me to get insane refresh rates, yet I still play Switch because of games that don't exist on PC, like Easy Come Easy Golf, Mario Maker, Tetris 99, etc. Of course, I can emulate some of these games, but while emulation is excellent in some cases, it's not capable of 1. reproducing part of the experience (the online part, for example), and 2. reproducing games outside the mainstream in an acceptable way (an example is Densha de Go, which runs like total shit on emulators).

You really think Nintendo is going to make a system as big, power hungry, and hot running as the Steam Deck?
It is going to be a relatively minor upgrade, with most of the gains put into being smaller, cooler, running longer on the same battery.

If the Switch is the OG 3DS, the Switch 2 is the New 3DS.

All they need is 4k 60fps, or 1080p 120fps. That gives both camps something to be proud about and anything about 1080p 60fps is just masturbation anyway.

Wrong. They don't need 4k 60fps, it's what YOU want it to have. It'll sell gangbusters without that and you know it, and Nintendo knows it.

Hi! Peter Griffin here! This thread has devolved into quite a mess, so I'm gonna explain a few things for you to help clear this up.
You see, there's a particular individual dubbed "ACgay" by the Ganker Ganker community. He's given that name based on his professed love of the movie game series "Armored Core". Now, this ACgay has been quite vocal about his opposition to what are perceived to be cinematic events preventing him from playing video games. What's funny, is that he's being prevented from playing video games, by obsessively posting reductive arguments and webms on the internet, instead of playing video games. And I think that's pretty hilarious.

      Anonymous

Very true. The other day he admitted that he critiques gameplay based on whether or not he likes the game's fanbase. Crazy how someone gets to this point.

        Anonymous

I mean, I just played Signalis and thought it was really good.
I utterly loathe the Ganker threads, I just wanted to talk about the story or how to open that one safe, and all the threads were was shitty lesbian porn. That doesn't make the game retroactively bad, it only means it's just one I won't have a meaningful conversation about on Ganker. Why should what other people do affect your own fun?
Consequently, I think the only good animal crossing game was the gamecube title but love the threads for animal crossing, best coom threads on the website by a mile
I think he's just incredibly autistic. He can't perceive people having a different opinion, is genuinely confused when people DO differ in opinion, and is hyper-fixated on his own preferences but shit at expressing them. I'd feel bad, except wait no I don't I'm literally so autistic I was used by the state as the case study of autism in children and I still had to learn on how not to be an butthole.

you can make something that isn't cinematic slop and have actual mechanics in a game that still has a story and graphics. your idea of a video game is just mechanics alone in a void. would you seriously play a game with no music and everything is just pixels in a black void if the mechanics were "fun"?

oh yeah I guess that comparing a 100 hours game with a 20 hours one is completely valid

As a veteran gamer who grew up with the atari and nes and old redacted radar equipment hastily glued together, I suppose it's easier for me to garner an appreciation for pure gameplay. I would've been among those defending the switch for caring less about graphics and more about delivering a good game experience, if they didn't immediately shoot themselves in the foot trying to chase trends like le expensive anime movie cinematics. Even now it's easier to go back and enjoy a random Atari game, then touch a modern JRPG or snoy walk and talk sim. You may not think that JRPGs are bloated, and you may think they have small budgets, but there used to be a time when you could just play a game without exposition being endlessly shoved into your face.

        >oh yeah I guess that comparing a 100 hours game with a 20 hours one is completely valid
I've played games like Terraria for 5000 hours, and they sure didn't need even a crumb of cinematic exposition. No offense, but Xenoblade doesn't have an excuse. No JRPG does.
