BST and Cross-Gen Evolutions

I ordered all non-fully evolved Pokémon according to their BST. I also did the same with Pokémon that are currently fully evolved, but have the possibility to still evolve once or twice. It was shocking to see that things like Parasect have lower BST than Ponyta.

Pictures down in the comments. I had these ready for a while now, glad I waited because Duraludon evolving (this soon) is ridiculous.

With gen 9's powercreep being what it is, I'm surprised there aren't more out-and-out pisstakes on here, tbh. If we accept the gen 4 evos, then it's really only Ursaluna and Kingambit that were tipping things over into true absurdity. Sure, Annihilape is unconscionably broken, but evolving Primeape wasn't that much of a stretch purely from a BST perspective, at least.

Yeaaah, it's just too bad we now have building dragon here to up the absurdity by an entire order of magnitude over the already lofty levels of absurdity gen 9 was operating at up to this point. I expected there to be an arms race after gen 9 that would catastrophically wipe all previous gens off the map and see hordes of allegedly regular evos pushing 600 just to keep up, but I didn't expect it to happen this soon.

Made adjustments to this for Little Cup.
Faded mons are already evolved and ineligible for LC.
Desaturated mons from evolutions that cannot be obtained by breeding regardless of eligibility via level restriction.
      Also fixed one mistake.

If it were up to me, I'd make sure any Pokémon above 400 BST that's allowed in Little Cup to either have a movepool or ability that nerfs it or gain a pre-evo.
400 looks to be that magic number where it's the high end for first stages and the low end for final stages with few exceptions, noteworthy examples being
        >Munchlax (390) - Pre-evo
        >Porygon (395) - First of a 3-stage line although started as a single stage
        >Delcatty (400) - Stone evo which none so far have managed to evolve further
        >Sableye/Mawile (380) - No Pokémon that can Mega Evolve has ever gotten an evolution
What do you see in first stages with BST above 400?
        >Archen (401) - Has a debilitating ability
        >Ponyta (410) - Introduced as a late-game mon, was planned to have a pre-evo at one point
        >Poiple (420) - Ultra Beast, cannot breed
        >Type:Null (534) - Legendary, cannot breed
        >Others - Introduced as single stage evolution lines with little to no intent on evolving, average BST for this category can go as low as 375

Please god, let Sableye and Mawile evolve but for real this time.

they'll just take like 50 points off of the urinal dragon's unused attacking stat like they did with ursaluna/kingambit/annihilape

Wouldn't surprise me, I just feel like this was the final nail in the coffin of doubters. GF clearly doesn't care about BST's and the Eviloite when giving a new evolution to an old Pokémon. The Eviolite also doesn't really cause an issue when Knock Off (and maybe Corrosive Gas if they do something with that in the future) is well distributed. I don't think they'll make evolutions with 600 BST, though. They probably don't want random mons to join the 600 Club (pseudos in Japan), but I'm prepared to be proven wrong.

        Anonymous

They don't care about Eviolite itself anymore but they try to make sure the pre-evolution will not be viable with Eviolite over its new evolution. For example Kingambit's stats are finely tuned to be just as bulky as Eviolite Bisharp with equal investments, and Ursaluna is even still physically bulkier than Ursaring. And of course they put more incentives on the evolution like better abilities, possibly a secondary type, exclusive moves. So I don't expect Eviolite Duraludon to be viable over Archaludon unless they frick the latter up somehow.

        Anonymous

At this point there's so many ridiculously useful items that even the free defense boosts from eviolite don't cut it anymore, even on NFEs with already good stats.
All it took was Heavy Duty Boots for Blissey to render Chansey obsolete and that was before both got nerfed and powercrept to hell. And even in cases where the NFE is still good like Murkrow in VGC, eviolite is really only a secondary option, like to get around the item clause, as it generally runs something like focus sash instead.
I think even Game Freak is aware they effectively powercrept eviolite.

It’s been completely worthless for about 25 years, it’d be weird for Game Freak randomly start caring about it now. The only thing in Sunflora’s favor is Game Freak finally starting to give a shit about Gen2 Pokémon.

              Anonymous

Yeah, GF hasn't been touching shit that's been worthless for about 25 years recently.

Most of the stuff that’s been getting evos at things that had some value at some point. Sunflora is a failure even by “babyish gen 2 shitmon” standards. The only Pokémon at the bottom of the barrel to get anything in recently is Delibird and it didn’t get an evo, it just got replaced.

GF cared about Sunflora, not about competitive (kinda impossible, it's like making Luvdisc good lmao), but it literally got an event in SV.

So, is Duraludon one of the best Evolite's users basically?

  9. 9 months ago
    Anonymous

Is eviolite Duraludon even that good? The more I think about it, isn't it just a better Steelix? Better Steelix is good but not completely broken. It still learns no recovery move. As a support it's only distinct utility move is dragon tail, the rest are just stuff like pebbles and screens which there are a lot of other good users of. If using it offensively, having to run eviolite means no specs or life orb so it's draco meteors are gonna be weaker. It's setup moves are SDance and Iron Defense (for body press) but with 85 speed setup sweeping would probably only be viable on tailwind teams
I mean it's definitely not a shitmon anymore but I can't see it being as broken as some other anons think it will be. It'll probably be RU alongside eviolite Bisharp and Primeape

  10. 9 months ago
    Anonymous

Duraludon's BST is already so high, I fully expect Archaludon to be like a Scyther situation where its evolutions have the same BST but are distributed differently

I can totally see Archaludon losing a lot of speed and attack to pump up its special attack and bulk

      Anonymous

That could be the case, but I'm thinking a Porygon2-Z situation with very minimal BST increase.
