>But here's the problem: real people don't jump.
>A jump in everyday life is an event. If you don't do parkour or some simpler physical activity, there's a good chance you'll never jump in your life. Never ever. Not everyone will dare to jump even over a puddle on the sidewalk. It’s too extraordinary an act, and for some it’s physically difficult.
>The game character, on the contrary, jumps willingly because it costs him nothing and is not very awkward in front of the NPC. And in an attempt to achieve verisimilitude, we come to the opposite effect: the perception of “ourselves” in game reality moves away from the “living self” even further. This means that if we want the player to actively empathize with his hero and identify with him, jumping will have to be removed.

Let's face it: most video games don't need jumping because it ruins the immersion.

I can jump in real life so I should be able to jump in the game.

The real reason it's there is a remnant of Super Mario Bros. where jumping was the main mechanic and Mario IS video games to hundreds of millions of people. Thus, if there is a video game, usually you can jump in it.

Not all games need a jump, see survival horror games. But it's an extremely obese mindset to think jumping is a big deal.

You have no idea how to pick up women cold. You don't even try. What's your strategy? To do nothing? Something, no matter how stupid or hair brained it is, will always be more successful than nothing. You have no experience with women if you think all of them reject corny advances. Having no shame will get you far more pussy than you think.

this is the saddest thing i've read all day.
I detest people who have this insanely overtuned physical body, a fricking miracle of nature, and they just refuse to utilize it.
i'm a mostly sedentary vidya playing office worker but i HATE when i get chubby, i ramp up physical activity when my jowls get flabby, and i could never ever live a life where i can't just leap across an obstacle or hop down from a high place without injury.
    Sad. Sad sad sad.
