      >he thinks trinitrons can still be had for free on the curb
he's not the clueless one, unless you're in some thirdie shithole where people are just now switching to flatscreen. boomers have caught on that these things are worth some money now that they've seen them listed on craigslist and facebook for upwards of $100

Yeah 5 years ago maybe. Times change old man, unless you're in some impoverished rural podunk town everyone's already tossed these things out a decade ago, people have realized the supply is drying up and are pricing accordingly. Same way cars that are priceless classics now would've been sent to the scrapyard without a second thought 50 years ago

my 11 year old gf said that she still sees them on the way to scool on the curb occassional.

I literally bought a trinitron for 5 bux last year on the east coast of the states. Yoy can still find this shit if you look around and most who has them just wants them out of their house.

You're literally fricking moronic. I got this a few months ago for free from an old lady who barely knew how to use craigslist. She said if I didn't pick it up that day she would take it to goodwill. This was right outside Fort Worth. It's in perfect condition.

I also picked this up for free a few weeks later. Some guy's dad died and he was cleaning out his house. If you look 20 minutes outside most major cities you can still find decent sets for free if you have the patience, or you can sperg out and impulse buy the first overpriced thing you see because you fell for the memes.

CRTs "userbase" sucks most don't know or don't dare to do the absolute most barebone servicing.
Plenty of good tubes getting trashed because of some dead capacitor or IC on the chassi board.
Documentation is all over the place video showing people how things are done yet people still believe some boomer fud from the 1980s about them being some murder machines that shoot 1000gigavolts down your penis shaft.

you could always, you know, learn about how to troubleshoot and repair the control circuitry.

  21. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

Check the controls on the flyback if there are any. Might be able to adjust picture that way.

Find the vertical hold on the pcb. Look for a transistor directly related to the vertical hold - likely be attached to a heat sink. It's a cheap replacement. If that doesn't fix it, start checking high power caps on the pcb and any caps near the vertical hold transistor and replace bad looking or swollen caps.

Don't buy older tech unless you can fix it or at least attempt to fix it. Other than nostalgia and higher electric bills, CRT's aren't worth bothering with anymore.

Thanks, it really was. I imagine some people would give me shit because it has RCA and Coax only, but it's perfect for SNES, PS1/2, N64 and Genesis.
