By this point it was just a training exercise for interns while Capcom's A teams had moved on to other projects/game series.

Pretty much yes
>"Making an unreasonable game, for instance, would be an affront to the players. I had many such conversations during the development of this game, and I think it may have had a lower level of difficulty as a result." (Inafune)
So that's why this game is absolutely toothless difficulty-wise.
yeah but it sounds like the interns' original plans were "my shitty first romhack"-tier bullshit, so we probably ended up better off because of it
>gives u a 1up
It has the most underappreciated soundtrack of any MM game
Napalm man and gravity man fricking slap agreed
That can be agreed on. 5 Utilized not only the color palette fully for the NES at the time it came out, but also did very well musically. Compared to 4 and 6, 5 was the brightest and most upbeat of the games of the last 3 entries for the NES.
I enjoyed it, more than MM4 even
Dark Man's theme especially
I love Ishikawa, bros.
For being such a beloved series, it's pretty remarkable just how many of these games are utter shit.
Megamanchildren be like "oh noooo, the 9th game in this spinoff series was canceled, I'm going insaneee aaaaahhh"
Oh shut up t.ranny jannie. We all know its you, could you please stop ruining this site?
> was just a training exercise for interns
Yeah, that was just about every game for Capcoms home division at the time. All the best talent was in the Arcade division
The A teams were on SNES development by then is why.
MM2 was basically an early "indie" game developed during developers' free time.
This which is why pretty much every Mega Man game is "good" even if they're a bit samey or whatever
We all know Inafune probably gave them bad advice to make his games seem better by comparison.
Every Mega Man game is good. Even the "worst" one is only "bad" relative to other Mega Man games - it would still rank as a masterpiece relative to any other platformer, and even moreso if you're only comparing to other NES platformers.
X3,5,6 and 7 wanna have a little talk with you
X7 I agree, that one is not very good. X3 is great, X5 and X6 are good.
X3 and 6 are excrement
You got them confused with your taste, anon (at least X3).
Very few Mega Man games are good, it's all broken shovelwear/jank that people only forgive because of their Nintendo/MCU tier simping for the brand
X4 was peak Mega Man
MM5 is my favorite classic.
X4 is peak.
X6 has a special place in my heart even though it’s rage inducing.
X7 and X8 are utter trash!
>X8 is utter trash!
>X6 is good
Kys spritegay
What's so bad about X8?
It was a minigame collection disguised as an MMX game, combined with an awkward semi-2D style that made it difficult to avoid hits and especially spike traps.
Too anime
>damage boost: the game
>peak
>Why yes, im the best Mega Man game. What gave me away?
6 is actually the best looking one with the best level design so I disagree.
Basierend
Currently going through 6 myself and I fully agree.
6 is the most polished and best designed of the classic MM games.
Also, OP is a homosexual
This.
difficulty gays will cry that 6 is too easy, who gives a frick, its the best game in the series, with the best OST.
rockman is a cooler name
Only in Japan. From the point of view of the rest of the world it's an awful, awful name. What, is it a man made out of rocks, like a mountain creature? Or does it have something to do with rock music? I'm a jazz man myself so I guess this game isn't for me!
this is unironically what went through the head of the localizers at crapcom shartmerica
and they were right
cope
The franchise peaked with MMZ2.
That will be all
*dies from off-screen enemy*
having your reaction time still functioning being a requirement to win is par for the course in any megaman.
Zero loading his Z-saber into the Buster Shot as a power source is so fricking cool.
MM fans who worship 1 and 2 despite being extremely rough around the edges, while at the same time putting down the later entries have the absolute worst taste in video games.
I used to think this way. Then I realized what a complete waste of time all MegaMan games are beyond the first two because they're all such lazy rehashes. You'll come to this realization sooner or later.
Or in 2023 you can look at Mega Man 2-6 as being one game and each title is a DLC.
Then call Mega Man X and Zero the only worthwile sequels.
2 is still interesting and commendable today. They even added an easy mode that makes an already reasonable game even more palatable. It's well deserved. 1 is very rough however. I really don't think a casual player could ever beat Elec Man with the mega buster even if you enter his stage 30 times. I really like 1 and am very nostalgic for it, but it is the wors-I mean lesser game in this series hands down.
MM2 is my favorite of the classics for something most other entries moved away from. That's the buster just not being your best weapon, the game was full of enemies that at least one of your other options erased with one good shot.
I want to take this moment to say FRICK MM5 in particular for its obsession with ramming attacks, the amount of enemies, let alone bosses that only move directly at you is disgusting and lazy.
>That's the buster just not being your best weapon
Yeah right, because Metal Blade is so much better balanced. 3 and 4 are much, much more competently made games. And I'd say that even MM1 has better designed levels.
Heat Man level is fun, as long as you aren't cheating it out with Item-2.
And 3 is anything but competently made, as it feels unfinished with weird balance and a ton of bugs.
I generally agree with your post though.
>it feels unfinished
I agree. The slowdowns on og hardware are unbarable, jet sections and doc bots are obviously unbalanced. But capcom rushing shit out of the door isn't the same as fundamentally bad or barebones level design. Needle Man, Snake Man and Shadow man stages alone shit on anything from 2. All robot masters are actually fun to fight with buster, weapons are useful but not overpowered, slide was also a great addition.
This really only applies to 5, some x games and arguably 10(but that's not retro)
>But capcom rushing shit out of the door isn't the same as fundamentally bad or barebones level design.
Touche.
My problem with MM3 is that it can be both extremely fun and infuriating for reasons that I don't find fair. A game on the verge of greatness that just doesn't quite land.
Makes it hard to properly evalute it.
>Yeah right, because Metal Blade is so much better balanced.
Yes.
Metal blade being an amazing weapon doesn't detract from the rest of the kit being likewise fun as frick to use.
My entire point being those weapons being able to tear up stages made it memorable in comparison to later entries that give you an unwieldy piece of shit only designed to awkwardly kill another stage boss, while also buffing the buster every single game.
I'd say that the rest of the kit is boring to use. Air Shooter can be fun sometimes, but it's extremely situational. Everything else sucks.
3 and 4 had weapons that are more fun to dick around with in comparison. Hell, even 6, though to a much lesser degree.
Based.
I was saying this for quite a while.
Reminder that anyone who puts this as his favourite therefore hasn't even noticed that you can't jump out of a slide due to a bug.
Therefore their opinion are low-level garbage
Yeah, the horror
Only a complete sperg would spaz out over that.
If you only want to play a single MM, just pick 6 as its the most refined of the entire bunch.
get good
I beat this game as a 6 year old. Why do you need such an autistic level of control for a toddler's game? Can't beat the baby toy without your super special slip'n slide'n cancel-dancel hopperino?
You can't slide in Rush Armors, which is the main gimmick of that entry, so it's irrelevant.
Btw, here's the objective ranking of the NES Mega Man games:
MM1>MM4>MM6>Darkwing Duck>MM3>MM2>MM5
The '>' character stands for "greater than".
Why, yes, MM1 is the best in the series.
It literally got only two major flaws: randomly moving platforms and Bomb Man level being boring. Three, if you count the pause bug.
this is a flaw in the game. but i still consider it a high tier Mega Man.
The one with the best weapon balance is 1. 1 is generally underrated
1 has some really cool weapons, I also like how the Game Boy 1 changes some of them up such as the Rolling Cutter being more useful for the Wily stages.
I didn't find it hard to avoid hits or spikes, the style wasn't the prettiest but it worked fine. It does have too many gimmick segments but I don't think all of them are that bad and the final stage on the Moon has none and is really awesome.
>"Heh, actually the series has always been shitty"
Why do morons do this? They get so jaded and overly critical of the things they like and then feel the need to trash the series as a whole. You can look at something. think "this is objectively flawed", and actually still enjoy it.
Anyway, I personally feel MM4 is the most well rounded of the NES games, I wish the charge shot didn't make a sound and the indication for it was purely megaman glowing but beside that I think it offers the most consistent experience of the games.
