because that's the whole point, isn't it? OU can very well be filled with legendaries so long as ubers is appropriately it's banlist
As it stands, now, OU has a lot of bans and ubers is like a tier and a half. it just doesn't really make any sense to exist like this.
Ubers became bloated enough that people simply wanted to play it.
Ubers still is a banlist first and a tier list second which is why there is no "Ubers Lite" so that the 5 people who want to use "shitty ubers" such as the various useless Arceus forms, Genesect, Blaziken, and whatnot aren't able to.
I do play Ubers, and I play it with the knowledge of what it's supposed to be: a banlist where I can use box legends first and foremost. Gen 1 Mewtwo was the most busted pokemon in all of pokemon history unless maybe you count stuff like Eternamax Eternatus, and even Mewtwo wasn't banned in RBY.
that's not what this is about. nobody is don't to argue that calyrex was too strong for its tier, but the management of smogon just seems really strange lately.
okay, but why is it like that instead of just being the new OU meta?
Unless calyrex is the ONLY pokemon that is stronger than the typical member of the teir, it seems far more like OU than Ubers

Because Ubers formed from being OU's banlist, there's no reason to reverse historical precedent especially when vastly more people prefer OU without Reshiram or Deoxys or whatever
>even Mewtwo wasn't banned in RBY.
What the actual frick are you talking about? What the frick do you think banning mewtwo from a tier that only contains mewtwo would accomplish? That'd be like banning calyrex from AG
If you want to use Calyrex just play AG, it's for casual shitters who just want duhh big legendaries fight without the baggage of actually being competitive, that sounds like exactly what you want
There's more Pokemon now.
There was no need for AG in gen 1 because Mewtwo and Mew were the only mons banned to Ubers.
Now there's so many Uber mons and some of them are a very obvious step above the rest.
That logic made sense in 4th gen, when Ubers was a dozen Pokemon at most. It's 9th gen now, and we have enough Ubers for Ubers to be its own full tier.
I don't really touch comp and especially not ubers, what makes Calyrex so bad? It seems like a pretty unanimous decision, does Tera make it nightmare mode or something? How's it compare to Mega Fug and Zacian?
Calyrex-S's one weakness is that it can't deal with Dark types. It's stronger than Zacian and Miraidon and Mega-fug in every other circumstance. It being able to resist and hit Dark types back with SE STAB damage makes it too strong. Its 150 base speed is 2 base speed higher than Zacian-Crowned. It's also fairly tanky, with 100/80/100 defenses.
It had one weakness and it has its choice of Fairy or Fighting Terastallization to beat it.
Calyrex has drastically overtuned stats even for a cover legendary, an insanely strong signature move, and its ability boosts its Special Attack every time it knocks out a foe so it only needs one kill to win a game.
It's already nightmare mode without Tera and was nearly banned last gen too, but stayed because it gets cucked by Yveltal (which had 91% usage as a result). With Tera it can just break past any would-be checks (including Yveltal if it ever comes back).
It's even more insane than Mega Fug by a sizable margin, due to both Tera and Yveltal being dexcut. In a theoretical game that had all the Pokemon (Yveltal and Marshadow) but no Tera, it'd be a lot more manageable than Mega Ray though.
SS Zacian wasn't comparable to Rayquaza or Calyrex in terms of pure strength, but was broken in that gen because the Pokemon that beat it (Arceus and Primal Groudon) were both dex cut.
It's especially silly because Ice Calyrex was actually slightly nerfed this gen while Shadow Calyrex was left alone - despite being far stronger in both Singles and Doubles.
>Calyrex has drastically overtuned stats even for a cover legendary, an insanely strong signature move, and its ability boosts its Special Attack every time it knocks out a foe so it only needs one kill to win a game.
That's why he needs his steads? How is the ice one not broken as well?
Worse typing, movepool, and stat spread. Shadow Rider can use Tera Fairy Draining Kiss to heal and beat the darks that wall it, while Ice Rider can't do anything like that.
Its stats look like this.
In SV, it's the second fastest Pokemon, only behind Regieleki and tied with Electrode.
It also has a better SpA than Mewtwo with an additional STAB.
Its defenses, while not great, are also not debilitatingly terrible.
It has a 120 BP Ghost-type move with no downsides.
It has access to Psyshock, which can frick over any special walls.
It has access to Nasty Plot, just in case it was ever faced with anything that it couldn't melt instantly.
The only real weakness it had and only reason it wasn't banned last gen is that it has a 4x weakness to Dark, and the strongest priority move in the game was Yveltal's Sucker Punch. Yveltal had 90+% usage last gen for this reason.
Now Yveltal is gone and even if it wasn't Spectrier can just tera into something that resists Dark.
It was already banned from Ubers last gen, and now it has the ability to change its type to resist Sucker Punches that would previously reliably kill it(if it wasn't behind a sub)
Calyrex Shadow Rider has the best of both worlds.
Being the combination of a mascot Legendary and a sub-Legendary for VGC affords it the OPness and species strength totals of the mascot, and the made for competitive abilities and niche of the sub-Legendary.
Banning pokemons from uber was a mistake. Uber should go back to being a banlist of OU instead of a proper tier.
why
because that's the whole point, isn't it? OU can very well be filled with legendaries so long as ubers is appropriately it's banlist

Doesn't that seem kind of stupid and a waste? I don't know why smogon management doesn't just break it up, it's all manufactured anyways
Whats the point in having the highest tier when theres mons you cant use?
that's AG
Completely agreed
Do you guys even play Ubers?
obviously not, they want to complain about big bad smogon but there's obviously no reason for this bizarrely specific take
I do play Ubers, and I play it with the knowledge of what it's supposed to be: a banlist where I can use box legends first and foremost. Gen 1 Mewtwo was the most busted pokemon in all of pokemon history unless maybe you count stuff like Eternamax Eternatus, and even Mewtwo wasn't banned in RBY.
>I do play Ubers
no you don't. there are literally four ubers players who did not want calyrex banned and you are not one of them
that's not what this is about. nobody is don't to argue that calyrex was too strong for its tier, but the management of smogon just seems really strange lately.
the rainbows infiltrated and ruined it
Ubers in RBY is just OU with Mew and Mewtwo. It's not even remotely comparable to what Ubers is now.
You're comparing Ubers from a time when there were just 2 to now where there are dozens. It has become a metagame unto itself, for a while now
okay, but why is it like that instead of just being the new OU meta?

>Pawniard (or really anything above 80 base attack) used Sucker Punch!
252+ Atk Choice Band Supreme Overlord 5 allies fainted Tera Dark Kingambit Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Fighting Calyrex-Shadow: 233-275 (68.3 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Deserved.
But it'll come back once Yveltal comes back to cuck it.
>42-3 in favor of banning
>People still posting their vote to try to get the percentage higher

Uh oh...
You've alerted the horde by saying that Ice Rider Calyrex is held back by its typing.
The fact that it's still good despite its awful typing is testament to how insane its other attributes are
The Ice one has the same stat total but it's built as a slow bulky Ice type
The fact that it isn't dogshit means it's broken by slow bulky Ice type standards

Disregard that, I suck wieners.
Calyrex-S wasn't AG last gen.
can you suck my wiener?

the fact that just the mount on its own is already super cracked is hilarious to me
