In general yes, not quite as good as nvidia and it usually requires more effort setting up but if you want image generation or local chatbots then it can be done.
On Windows? Yes, trivially. I'm generating pokemon porn on a fricking R9 380.
If you're a casual coomer then the only difference between GPUs will be how fast you generate an image, so just pick up whatever has the most VRAM in your price range.

Yes, buy only RDNA3. RDNA2 is way slower.
What driver do i need?
I tried 2 months ago and it didnt work
Drivers don't matter.
Just google A1111 and click the AMD button on the github.
Follow the instructions and you're done.
If you get an error message, google it.
You'll have this set up in like twenty minutes.
Yes, and is not even funny. if i recall correctly a 3060 is like two times better than a 6600 despite them being fairly similar in games.
AMD has had pro render support for Blender for a while now. They're on par if not better than Nvidia especially with Viewport performance which matters more to 99% of workflow. X3D cpus and AMD GPUs are really good there.

you are high, they are not even comparable, you can clearly see in https://opendata.blender.org/benchmarks/query/?group_by=device_name&blender_version=3.6.0

NTA, this is odd. I've seen benchmarks where they're fairly close.

you got rick rolled, a quick google search will show you that nothing has changed, trust me i wish amd was as good on blender as nvidia just because its cheaper and has more vram, but alas.
Except cuda had a lot of uses in the past, I guess it has leveled a bit since? I'm getting it used anyway, probably in a few years when the market is back
>Is there even a reason to get nvidia now then?
Nvidia has CUDA and is way better for stuff like raytracing, 3D modelling and AI.
If you only care about gaming then AMD might be the better option, especially if you want something midrange or lower.
Both are american companies that are being led by taiwanese CEOs.
Which just happen to be related and regular share holiday events together. Pure coincidence by the way.
You won't need more than 12GB for gaming unless you are a game dev or generate money from it, in which case you buy a better gpu that's also not AMD.

VRAM is the biggest deciding factor in casual AI generation.
There are people right now buying refurbished TESLA cards because even though they get mogged by a fricking 1080, that big VRAM count makes them better than any 40XX card short of the 90 for generating.
For gaming, 8GB VRAM is already obsolete, 12GB is the new baseline.
It took twenty minutes to install, I am missing zero (0) features and am fully happy with all my generations.
It takes 40 seconds to generate an image because I'm only using 2.5GB of VRAM so I can actually play games while it chugs in the background.
Why was it a pain in the ass for you to install? Did you follow the instructions correctly? I can show you how to do it if you're having that much trouble.
AMD Is a terrible company that you shouldn't support. Year after year they fail to reach their ESG targets.
Unlike Nvidia who have been the top ranked ESG corporation for multiple years. >currently Rank 5/100 on the ESG score
Put your money at the right place if you want to make a change

Latest driver
See
How do i even get latest driver for amd
I can only manually search for adrenaline software update in adrenaline
On Windows you just go to AMD.com
On Linux your kernel should come with it
What OS are you using?, always wanted to give linux a shot but never liked the manual writing of commands
I use Windows 11 Superlite and multiple Linux distros (Arch, Chimera OS, Tails).
Drivers don't matter.
Just google A1111 and click the AMD button on the github.

It took me hours to set it up for nvidia because python didnt work
I hope this is easier
Huh. Is there even a reason to get nvidia now then? I don't care about proprietary raytracing and dlss
if your stack requires CUDA you're forced to use them. decide using your free will.
I don't really know. I mostly use blender and play games a few times a year. And coom ai.
3D Modeling
Is it a lot faster with rendering?
Yes, and is not even funny. if i recall correctly a 3060 is like two times better than a 6600 despite them being fairly similar in games.
Is rendering only important if you want to make movies or also games
It's all just hobbyist

If you have to ask, no.
Red vs Green has always been a dick measuring contest for 99.9999% of people.
Except cuda had a lot of uses in the past, I guess it has leveled a bit since? I'm getting it used anyway, probably in a few years when the market is back
CUDA is only used for AI and CAD.
Also for 3D rendering like Blender
llama cleaner uses cuda
Don't know what that is so I'm probably good
it's a useful tool for cleaning up images
Nvidia has better toys and is way better at AI. Genuinely only morons get AMD, it doesn't make any sense unless you're poor.
What if both are expensive?
That's a shame. But it will be faster than my 1070 which is already quite fast.
If you want to do AI, the options are 3060 12GB, 3080 12GB, 3090 and 4070 or better.
Don't ever buy the 4060 16gb is a fricking scam.
Definitely yes. But I'll keep an eye on used marketplaces.
Even for just generating stuff? I don't train.
>this is what morons actually believe
it's true

Really conflicting information in this thread, probably depends on more factors in their respective fields
On the 30 fps level of performance
They'll reverse engineer and copy whatever someone else does. It's what asians do.
Nvdia is asian as well you imbecile
Both are american companies that are being led by taiwanese CEOs.

Lisa and jensen are literally related
amd will never have proper ai support if they don't emulate cuda
I'm literally, as we speak, generating porn on a five year old AMD GPU with only 4GB of VRAM.
"No proper support" my ass. No one here actually uses this shit.
You're doing it really slowly, it was a pain in the ass to install, and you don't have access to all the AI stuff Nvidia has.
NTA but what is slow to you? I generate pictures with hires at 2 minutes and I'm kinda fine with that
I probably do it ten times faster than that. I'm just saying if you can have some ease of use and comfort why wouldn't you go for that?
Expensive as frick buying a new gpu and it will support nvidia and China
>I probably do it ten times faster than that.
You literally can't.
Hell, 7900 XTX has higher it/s than even a 4090 on Shark.
>12GB
What's the point of paying a premium if you're not getting one?
I'd wait for next gen. Hopefully 50XX has a sane amount of VRAM.
You won't need more than 12GB for gaming unless you are a game dev or generate money from it, in which case you buy a better gpu that's also not AMD.

>Shark
Not him. It's fast and easy to set up but it lacks certain features of A1111 but it's over 8 times as fast as DirectML for me on 7900XT.
It took twenty minutes to install, I am missing zero (0) features and am fully happy with all my generations.

Yes, but you're better off using Nvidia tbh.
t. former AMD poorgay genner
Do I get the 7800XT for €550 or the 7900XT for €850
Currently using a 1070, and it's starting to suck
4070 just because its cheaper and doesn't burn your house down like the 7800 xt
What the frick are you on about? I got a 7800 XT and that thing is running at 50 C max and also not making any noise at all
Why is AI even running on the GPU instead of the CPU
Gpu is faster in almost all computing tasks, especially multithreading
Because you need to do lots and lots of the same calculation simultaneously.
SIMD vs MIMD.
CPUs are like master craftsmen.
GPUs are like sweatshops.
AI stuff is sweatshop work.
Barely.
Vidya?
Couldn't you use OpenCL to do AI stuff and it's just a case of no one caring enough to actually write anything due to CUDA being easier?

Nvidia is much worse for many other reasons
Not sure if ironic, but have a nice day just to be safe
Bait or mindless consoomer goy, can't tell.
Can’t tell if israelite or Goy.
Inference? Yes. Training or finetuning? Literal hell to set up.
