Communicating outside of the game, and communicating with people you are increasingly less likely to ever see again completely undermined the sense of community.
Some limitations are necessary to foster a community. Breaking down all barriers just turns it all into a grey sludge with nothing unique about any of the servers.

I'm all for social interaction but honestly it should be in game, I only ran into the hunt trains because I was Fate farming on EW zones seeing a large crowd gathering otherwise I wouldn't have known.
You must be new to MMOs if you think that. We've always had other ways to communicate outside of the game and those channels have always been more active than ingame. The main difference today is that XIV (and the few modern mmos that still exist) are not designed to be the same type of game that MMOs used to be, it's not a game people sit on 24/7. Due to this new design people who want to communicate with those outside of the game use the easiest possible way, currently, which is discord. Some people like the modern MMO design and some don't, it is what it is, but it's important to understand that XIV is purposefully designed to be this way.

Previously we've had external chat applications, voice apps, forums, picture galleries, sharing websites, we've had them all but they were all separate and Discord is all of those things in one single place. It is too convenient, there isn't a single online multiplayer now that doesn't rely on Discord now for most of their social interaction to the point you have game community managers now on Discords.
I know this is a difficult concept for you because you have Zoomer brain rot, but one of the large draws of mmo's was the in game social interaction.

Not reading all that, Discord isn't doing anything negatively to MMOs, it's no different than all the tools we've been using for the last 25 years. The only thing it manages to do is be more useful as an all-in-one tool instead of needing forums, IRC/chatroom, as well as a voice program to communicate with people. People don't communicate less ingame because of Discord, if anything it allows people to communicate more as a whole because you can keep up with your FC/Guild/Whatever mates easier when they are not logged in.

Summoner was reworked to behave more closely to how it does in a turn-based FF game and they've been working towards it since Shadowbringers.

Not reading all that, Discord isn't doing anything negatively to MMOs, it's no different than all the tools we've been using for the last 25 years. The only thing it manages to do is be more useful as an all-in-one tool instead of needing forums, IRC/chatroom, as well as a voice program to communicate with people. People don't communicate less ingame because of Discord, if anything it allows people to communicate more as a whole because you can keep up with your FC/Guild/Whatever mates easier when they are not logged in.

You lock yourself out of content, Discord has nothing to do with it.
Outside ways to communicate were voice apps like teamspeak or skype because I know this might be difficult to understand almost everyone until a few short years ago played with a single monitor so you would chat in game and use third party applications for chat with your guildmates that didn't require you to alt+tab or have a second monitor. You were still immersed in the game world and most of the social interaction was still in game.

Prior to the nerf I was getting 6-9 kills per frontline, now it's 1-2 and my damage is halved overall.

I would recommend not being in these threads if you're only on ARR you're going to get spoiled by the story if you stay here.
The moment you pay, the game locks out the free trial forever. So try to push it as far as you can before QoL stuff gets burdensome.

Carbuncle is a quick moron-check for whether you have it summoned or not, and it's used as a general catalyst for all the other summons + Radiant Aegis and Searing Light, which is arguably about as useful as it is in a normal game where it casts Ruby Light proper.
Summoner was reworked to behave more closely to how it does in a turn-based FF game and they've been working towards it since Shadowbringers.
They made SMN play like an actual SMN from the FF series where you summon the thing and it does the thing then goes away
