Can people stop acting like L4D BIRTHED the horde shooter genre

Don’t get me wrong L4D 1&2 are great games, but those valveheads act like it’s the frickin magnum opus. ESPECIALLY when it comes to other horde shooters. Back 4 Blood wasn’t that fricking bad it had great gun play and looked great but those L4D gays acted like it was an unplayable abomination. I understand all the other problems people have with the game.

I think the biggest issue with B4B was that it was very bland.

Yeah, you're right. It was average at best. The characters were also all unlikable. None of them showed real emotion and had lame twitter dialog, none of them were afraid and were complete 'badasses'.

didn't the whole running around picking up currency ruin the entire point of the teamwork focused gameplay?
also the game had terrible physics/sound unlike lfd
also yeah the characters were gay and uninteresting

Not fully related but I lost all interest in GTFO the moment they added persistent loot. It's crazy how fast that game just ruined its direction after doing so much right.

homie it was heavily advertised as a left 4 dead clone with the whole "from the creators of l4d2" just to end up being inferior to it, of course people are gonna compared them.

L4D did not have any of these things. Not even shilling for it but the onus is on you to prove the game doesn't suck.

    >why the frick are you comparing L4D to a game that's marketing itself as a spiritual successor to L4D
The fact they did a bad job of copying what was important about L4D does not change what it is.
L4D 1 and 2 have yet to be surpassed in the genre btw. They likely wont be because modern game design is obsessed with extrinsic motivation as a shortcut to fun and homogenity with CoDs shooter format (Ironsights + Sprint) as a shortcut to tutorialisation.
L4D is a mechanical/level design marvel, with just about every choice they made being very deliberate. They understood resource management, that movement speed was a resource, and how important level geometry actually is beyond looking pretty. You say it isn't a big deal, but I'd challenge you to actuallt justify your statement with a single game that has actually improved upon what L4D does.
While Deeprock is distinct enough to stand on its own, I wish Verminetide had even half the amount of design consideration as L4D.
I want games to be confident that playing them is its own reward again too.

      >that movement speed was a resource, and how important level geometry
The sheer number of locations I can think of offhand where I had to weigh whether or not it was worth it to jump off of a cliff and risk hitting the hp threshold for lower speed is wild.

I don’t think anyone’s acting like it’s unplayable abomination, but it’s a massive massive step down from l4d. The gunplay is mediocre to average at best. L4d gets sucked off because of all the small details put into absolutely everything. The music, the gun play feels great, shooting random zombies feels weighty as hell, all the attention to detail from musical cues, audio cues, the atmosphere. B4b is just average in every regard, and if you can’t see why games like l4d and tf2, and even cs are still alive and massively beloved still today, then you probably have a chip on your shoulder more than anything.

l4d 1 has some of the best enemy interactions of any game. they react very humanlike when shot with dynamic bleed out/dismemberment and impact reactions
    l4d2 is trash
    >add a handful of weapons
    >add 2 new enemies
    >severe punishments for anyone playing above average skill level or daring to break the devs meta
    >that'll be $40 dumbass and you better thank gaben.
dunno about b4b, i assume its shit as the devs left valve which is an easy paycheck company so you'd have to be a massive moron or simply unlikeable asperges master to leave that.

They spawn poison under you if you find someone you can stand safely and it lasts until you die or leave. Only shitty devs like Valve get that assblasted over someone beating their "run and shoot" meta.

idk. I find it hard to play l4d compared to l4d2 nowadays. I'm not sure what it is since they're both basically the same game. Something about the first game just doesn't click.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

It was, and the fact that it's dead as frick despite only having to be L4D2 minus the canceraids community which a relaunch could have ensured.
    Think about that.
It lost to a 2009 expandalone sequel to a 2008 game.
That people largely consider unplayable unless you can organize the 4-8 people minimum to fill up an entire game to completely bypass the rancid community.

Unsurprisingly OP is a moronic zoomer who can't give any examples of "horde shooters" that came before it, but he also doesn't understand that L4D's real innovation was it being a game entirely designed around co-op, something that practically didn't exist at the time. Not at that scale.

Pcbros are laughably dishonest and will shamelessly lie so long as they get to jerk off Valve. The sad thing is that L4D is also easily Valve's second worst franchise (after Artifact).

The video highlighted the handful of people who left Valve to reform Turtle Rock to try to push their false narrative, completely hiding the fact that a large number of former Turtle Rock chose to stay at Valve (including the fricking Turtle Rock founder who was the main programmer of the AI Director) and that Valve credits always includes the list of all employees at the time of the list compilation, not only those who worked on a specific game.
