Nothing in your post mentioned gameplay. Open world design is best at the hands of Europeans, not at the hands of Japs or Americans. Even games like Elden Ring would be better off if they were linear rather than open world.
Not just pop in, the whole atmosphere is better on the bottom. The NPC's aren't just standing there, they are interacting in believable ways.
But the top has a mini map therefore the top is better.

Even looking at only modern 3D ones that people think of when you say open world, DD1 and 2, and BotW and TotK. The only good modern western open world game is KCD, and the Just Cause games (2 and 3) are good if you want to dig back further a little. Morrowind is also good, but not as good as any of the other ones.

Oblivion killed American open worlds lmao, what a horrible fricking game. I don’t care about horse armor, I care about how the world is mundane and the dungeons are shit. The quests suck unless you’re literally dosed up (in-game) yet people ate it up because it made them feel awesome pressing right-click a bunch on HP sponges. The worst part is BOTW also thought Oblivion was good.
ER, BotW and now DD2 are way alive everything else besides RDR2.
