Can it ever dig itself out of pandering to coomers to sell more copies? Probably, as long as coomers stop being such a profitable audience. Don't expect that to happen any time soon though.
I'm ambivalent about romance in games but the one thing I can't stand is sex scenes.
They're already bad enough in movies and tv shows but in video games they're even worse.
It's only women who like sex scenes too. I, like I imagine most men, like to keep my fap material and entertainment material separate.
why do you care about things that don't affect you? also dragon's dogshit 2 just came out and it has bisexual dating (just like the 12 years old original).
Because shitting up the culture and our cultural products is bad, anon. Why are you making excuses for this when it doesn't effect you? Why are you defending it when it shouldn't effect you if things are degenerating? Stop being such a culture warrior
>Because shitting up the culture and our cultural products is bad
who is 'our'? and how is this 'shitting up'? to begin with, you didn't create these things - neither the culture nor the game in question. how do you lay ownership on it? how do you speak for everyone so nonchalantly?
I don't care about women
>break out of the bisexual dating simulator hole
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
This is Larian ruining another element of the game, as usual.
How is having more options "ruining" things? Are you worried you'll be tempted?
It ruins the narrative, gay shit isn't normal as much as you hoped it to be. Normal people are still repulsed by homosexuals, they're just too sheepish to complain about it because the State made it verboten.
what fricking narrative is ruined by optional smecks? I want to create lady boy that only fricks dudes I should be able to do it, it's my fantasy not yours
Most narratives are ruined by sex.
>talk to gale once
>locked out of dating a woman
Parasitic gays ruin everything
Options for the sake of options is idiotic.
It's unrealistic for everyone to be into everyone, and no matter how much you want to be a reductivist israelite by bringing up dragons and magic, a fantasy setting is still better with elements of realism included and it doesn't reduce any fantastical elements of the setting.
Even back then people were modding the game so they could do homosexual romances. This was back in the day when you couldn’t come out as gay in most American states.
The whole reason Bioware was popular was because of the romances. This is not a new thing.
BW's games except DA2 didn't have bisexual-only romances
Morrigan is straight
Alistair is straight
Cassandra is straight
Cullen is straight and racist
etc
Absolutely not.
The fans are the problem they absolutely eat this shit up. Despite these romances being shit, basically non-events, people still obsess over them to a ridiculous degree.
Even in games like dragons dogma 1 and 2, people fill up threads OBSESSING about who is going to be their beloved, and what does it change? The dragon is holding a different body at the end. 0 lines of dialogue or anything.
It's the most low effort way to generate buzz possible, you don't have to do fricking anything and people will still coom over it.
unfortunately not, games with these elements make money and feeds a community of coomers that help keep the game in zeitgeist.
>but the game is giving you more choices
i would prefer to be bros with the male companions, as soon as they start flirting, it becomes weird
Why should I when its the best of both worlds?
Why exactly would it be a problem at all?
>Bro characters are dead because they'll be asking to suck your wiener 3 sentences in
Shit sucks man.
I don't have a problem with gay characters in games. Every character being magically playersexual is just the sign of a shit game.
Why does it matter if the character is bisexual? I play as a guy and romance a girl and if someone else plays a girl and romances that same girl, I don't care.
>Why does it matter if the character is bisexual?
Because it turns all friendships into "romances". You can't just have goofy/fun with the other male characters because they'll want to frick you if you do.
>Just say no
It's already ruined at that point.
To pivot to Kingdom Come Deliverance. One of the reasons why Henry and Hans friendship works so well is because Hans isn't romancable. A lot of the scenes would be awkward as frick if Hans even hinted at wanting to frick Henry. Playersexual shit homogenizes character interactions and it's fricking boring.
To further add to this. It's why Gale's "Hey want to see a magic trick" is fricking infamous. Most people probably wanted a scene with two guys fricking around with magic, possibly doing something moronic and fun. Instead they got Gale coming on to you after one of the gayest scenes ever.
Fricking hate this shit. Told the bear homosexual to have fun at the party at the end of act 1, and for the rest of the game I have to read the dialogue option of "I SURE HOPE YOU DIDN'T FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE I MIGHT HAVE BEEN COMING OFF TOO STRONGLY AT THE PARTY" or either click it to imply I'm a gay. Fricking moronic.
The romance is optional and comprises only around 1~2% of game content. I don't get why people get hysterical over it.
Because those "people" never played the game.
Nope. Before BG3 released I tried lurking BG1/2 threads on /vrpg/ and guess what was talked about the most? le romances.
The problem is that the fantasy genre is full of incels whose only experience with fantasy is Lord of the Rings, which is an asexual story where no one feels sexual desires and women are almost non-existent, so they think all fantasy should be asexual too.
They were clawing their way out of it before lariantencent fricked it up royally. You now understand all those testimonials and articles saying x studio will not be replicating bg3. It is an elephant in the room in crags and it took eurotrash being moronic eurotrash setting the entire medium back 20 years.
Its a bisexual dating simulator only if you played so. No one forces you to date or even keep your companions
No one is forcing me to play it lad.
Why are you in a thread for a particular game if you have not played said game?
Ganker is for posting m8
No.
BG3 has unironically ruined crpgs and western rpg's in general and we shall see the terrible consequences over the coming years.
Already we got smaller devs like Owlcat considering wasting a frickton of resources and disk space on full voice acting.
Very easily by CLEARLY labeling [Flirt] lines and keeping everything outside of it non-romantic. I don't want my bros hitting on me out of nowhere that shit is gay
All video game romances suck ass, but the one that sucked the least ass was Uncharted.
It's hilarious how western rpgs have become the safe space for both Chuds and trannies to live out their sad fantasies and the devs have to make their waifus and husbandos respond to both insane groups. Your bros are literally being simultaneously fricked in the ass by another man somewhere else in a parallel vidya world.
>I'm sane!! I'm so normal!!!
If you were you would be able to spot that every companion wanting to frick you and nobody wanting to be your friend is weird as hell
If you weren't insane you would know that's exactly what to expect from western rpgs over the last decade or so and exactly what I'm making fun of. If you want friends you need to play a JRPG, there's no wrpg that will let you have a bro like Wakka or Noctis' crew.
Blame Bioware, they started the trend. Funny though how when they did it in 2011 they got shat on for making everyone playersexual when when BG3 did it in 2023 the narrative shifted and they were celebrated for doing the same.
So Astarion isn't gay either?
just for you
