they made me fans of star wars. I had never seen star wars until like 2008, after playing KotOR.
that being said, i'd put KotOR in my top 20 rpgs.
these are far more enjoyable than the movies
I would say unless you are 8 years old probably not.
KOTOR is a reenactment of the movies and KOTOR 2 is a deconstruction of the cosmology by a guy who also didn't like them
Even so, both showed you can tell interesting stories on the SW universe. Instead of whatever the frick they're doing with nuWars.
I don't care much about Star Wars, new or old, but enjoyed both games. Should replay them sometime now.
I never watched a single star wars movie and I played KOTOR 1 and 2 and the MMO
i hate the shit out of star wars, but kotor 2 is goated, star wars had this odd dichotomy where the source material is funkopop capeshit tier §oyßoy shit while the games are ludokino, dark forces, x wing/tie fighter, shadows of the empire, even the shitty sidescrolling snes games are miles above the kind of games that get shat out these days
kotor does star wars better than the movies.
i watched the movies after playing both of these and end-up not liking the movies, while liking kotors.
It's a shame SW RPGs did not continue. Hell, those two showed simple d20 worked.

Absolutely hate Star Wars but KOTOR 2 is pretty great
Opposite here, used to be an avid enjoyer of the OT and the EU, even the early 90's dark horse stuff. Loved the first KoTOR, as it captured the magic of the OT and somehow successfully amalgamated it with a fresh but familiar EU setting and idea's. I however detested the sequel, couldn't even be arsed continuing after escaping the asteroid.
You could enjoy them, sure. I'm very unfamiliar with Warhammer 40k lore but enjoyed Rogue Trader. I play the tabletop games with my friends on occasion and have fun, so yeah, I don't see why not. Of course, having a deeper understanding of the lore and background might bring greater enjoyment due to the small dogwhistles they throw out to fans; it's not totally necessary. They're both great games, so just have fun OP.
The movies are awful, these games are good.
Seconding. I always fall asleep when I try to watch any of the movies, like clockwork. I enjoyed Kotor for the first time (somehow it felt atrocious when I wanted to do a second playthrough right after) and Jedi Knight series was pretty cool back in the days
I always felt like literally everything else Star Wars is better than the actual movies. Shows, games and comics all shit on the movies. But Lucas movies were watchable, nuWars movies are not.
>Lucas movies were watchable
Best 6 movies ever made, to argue this is to openly state you're filtered
>NuWars is not watchable
I'd rather watch my daughter get raped by 1,000 Black folk than watch NuWars
>The comics and literature shit on the films
Not exactly. Some are golden, but not on the same level as the hexology
>The video games shit on the films
Eh, sorta. Star Wars, before the Disney coup, had plenty downright phenomenal games. Hard to say if they can rival the 6 best films ever though
Empire is one of the best movies ever made what are you on
>Shows
hahaha
>comics
HAHAHAHAHA
I played SWTOR first, then KOTOR, then watched movies. They are actually better enjoyed without knowing (much) of the swtor universe if possible, it sets no expectations and offers a better star wars feel than movies can.
That said, movies were a massive success at the time; not only did they appeal to masses, but offered an easy entry into a rich setting that an autist may enjoy and hand tailor for weeks
If you are not a star wars fan the games are awful. People will say they are not star wars fans and enjoyed them, but what they mean is they are a fan of other star wars media. Purely as games these are just simply awful and no sane person could argue that they are not.
>no sane person
>t. madman
of course, some of the best rpgs of all time. the are classics for a reason. and for your mmo needs you can turn to swtor even tho its kinda on life support, but hey the operations in the endgame are top-notch, if you play around and get in a good team its fantastic. but this is vrpg so I'll stop there
