When attempting to excise caesar's tumor, for example, a failed medicine check will kill caesar, and the courier has to defend himself with a skill check. A significantly low medicine skill, however, causes caesar's head to explode, making the entire legion hostile to the courier.
New Vegas proved that even an average dev team could easily make a much better game than Bethesda, literally the only reason why Bethesda is still active in the gaming business is thanks to people new to gaming keep buying their trash because they see ads.

I can actually see it as being useful in a situation where time is vital, and a skill check to acknowledge a lost cause prevents the player from either futilely trying to prevent the inevitable or being a dick by abandoning them.

Bethesda games have never been great out of the box, but nothing has been as bad as Starfield. Even Daggerfall is still more enjoyable if you want a roleplaying sandbox.

I agree it was massively disappointing, and I went into it with some expectations and hype. I later would go on to drop it within 10 hours, even using a cheat engine didn't make the game fun for me. It's just a really boring game, and I didn't even get my first SPACE POWER ability, didn't even know space powers were in the game. Anons said like 80% of them are useless and not even fun. The gunplay isn't even fun and that's the majority of the combat right there. Fallout's VAT system was way more fun from a gunplay perspective, and never felt like it got boring/stale, at least for me.
I dropped it shortly after the first space power. The realization they had no idea what to add to the game so they just copypasted Skyrim's dragon shouts into it was too much. That plus how actually getting the damn thing to trigger was funnily enough the hardest part of the game.

Im at the point where I don't care at all about a games graphical fidelity and the only thing I look for is number of unique character animations and unique events. If you can't be bothered to not reuse the same 4 generic animations during your 50+ hour game I just disregard it. You failed.

I typically pirate most games. This is one of the ones that I felt absolutely no remorse about, this game is a fricking dumpster fire. I honestly could not play longer than 10 hours even for free, it was THAT bad. Meanwhile, I pirated Balatro and played it for like 50 hours straight, then felt bad because it's only 15 bucks so bought it on Steam.
