>game everyone has played to death >has had a billion remakes and remasters >can really only be enjoyed once >All the sequels are better >Game is older than dirt and less complex than Doom from 1993 >Might've literally helped kill off superior puzzle games by essentially being a poser faux puzzle everyone and their Grandma could pick up and play
Not OP but I just installed it last week. I loved the island but I've ended up at this oppressive fortress so trying to get back to the island but have to solve the damn puzzles to which feels a bit grindy.
Love the sound design, for instance the water slapping the underside of the dock at the start, i saw on youtube newer versions don't have this
Myst isn't that hard to get through honestly. I figured it out when I was 13-14 without a guide. Riven's puzzles are ridiculous at times though but I like the atmosphere better.
Myst 1 has that terrible train maze section. I never played it as a kid, but I would've just quit at that section
Honestly I think Myst 1 is just not a good game. Amazing atmosphere and very influential, but when you stop breaking it down into parts it's just a mediocre game imo
It's a series of islands with random levers scattered about, with no discernable effects from pulling them, and the correct configuration must be discovered through the most tedious trial-and-error imaginable.
No we can't. Sorry

So.. why do you want to talk about Myst?
I'm pretty sure my grandma would've been hopeless lost and would just click around on the island before going back to watering her garden

Good I love that island. I'd build it if I had Epstein money
I don't think a lot of people here have played Myst more than 30 minutes.
To be fair I went back to Myst 1 and I don't think it holds up well, at least the OG. Never played remakes.
Myst 3 I think does hold up
Never played Riven
>there will never be games with a sense of mystery and adventure like Myst again
Modern video game industry is like that Pyst parody where everything has been ruined and done to death
Played through it twice, not including the 3d version they made later

Only if we can also talk about weird retro myst-likes (or mystemups as I like to call them)
I'd like to hear more about these mystemups, do you have any recommendations?
Amber: Journeys Beyond
Amerzone
Obsidian
Like Hell Cab? Return to Zork?
Because Myst was a mind-blowing experience in 1993 when I first played it on my family’s old Mac, and this is a retro game forum.
How does Riven compare to Myst? I never got far in Myst

So Myst then. Guess I'll pass on that one, thanks anon
There's nothing interactable in Myst that isn't obviously connected to its larger puzzle.
Riven is amazing
Thoughts on Zork: Nemesis?
