Ok now I understand why the dev never puts the game on sale. Don't at me about the 10% steam summer sale. This will never be on sale where I can pick it up for a couple bucks. Guess I'll pick it up for free then.
this is the only traditional roguelike that I prefer to play with save/load enabled, I enjoy it 10x more. However I only do it for this game, not a single other game does it feel right to have saving and loading, not sure why.
all of the drama aside, the games design detracts from itself as a roguelike to me. It's got the elements but the early game is horrendously boring after you've played with the different builds for a bit since it's always very samey. The only way the game likes to mix it up is when it throws a supermonster somewhere it normally isn't in a low level area but aside from that it's which of 3 flavors of vanilla for your start do you want since none of the starting areas really make it feel any different.
also the balancing on mutations is laughable with how overwhelmingly good many of them are and how expensive yet garbage the other half are. I went to find some other roguelikes to play and had some luck with some that anons reccomended, but I also found myself enjoying cogmind which kept up the difficulty but didn't feel like a boring slog to start back over.
Not him but I recommend cogmind. Tales of Taj'eyal is game, wasn't my cup of tea but it is quite popular amongst others, however you can get the game for free on their site if you want, steam version just supports the devs. The only other games I recommend aren't on steam, like C:DDA
I've really been enjoying cogmind, the gameplay moves quick enough that the deaths that will come don't feel like an end to the fun. The gameplay feels strategic with the different "builds" you make out of yourself on the fly and the way combat plays out with the little things like how sitting still for a few turns can raise your accuracy while moving for multiple turns raises your evasion depending on your method of movement. I haven't managed to beat it as it in my opinion gets very difficult but I've been glad to play it.
Biggest waste of time ever. Game has tons of shit but none of it matters. Zero depth.
Di yourself a favor and play something that was actually designed instead of this heap of random ideas. Sil, Brogue, IA, DCSS, Nethack, fricking anything
game is fun if you can get into it. from my experience the two funnest different play styles to try are a chimera mutant to try to grow as many limbs as possible or full artificer, theres also full on esper with max mental powers. Theres lots of ways to cheese the game, personally I find getting all kinds of good artificer tech fun, blood batteries in a laser gun, or a throwing disc, sitting behind multiple forcefields. Also has some neat cooking recipes to get really strong powers.
I thought a lot of the tech that starts showing up later was really cool, it just takes a long time to get to any of the actual interesting stuff for a game with permadeath. Also some of the mutations are just fricking broken, while others make you wonder if the devs playtest the game. Regeneration is useless and costs like 4 points? Claws cost 3 points but don't scale for shit and can't dig up and down without enabling "unfinished features? then you have light projection erasing things with ease like half of the mental powers do, or how about photosynthetic skin which when leveled up keeps you with buffed quickness even when underground on top of regeneration for less mutation points than enhanced quickness. I don't know anything about the devs other than they clearly have no idea how to balance this game.
no
Sure, man, I bought it, never played it. Got any tips?
I got to the last dungeon area and couldn't figure out how to progress. I dug around aimlessly for an hour and haven't played since.

I only know this game from watching the Sseth video, is it actually fun?

You don't need to enable save/load when you can get precognition and have it canon.
I fricking love this game.
>people paid money for an unfinished roguelike
I pirated the shit out of this.
how do you pronounce "Qud" so that i don't sound like a jackass?
