Can we talk about historical war video games that?

Can we talk about historical war video games that /k/ is looking forward to?

I hope that pic related will be good, but the Total War devs really lost their touch after Shogun 2, in my personal opinion. Although that depends on whether you like their fantasy-type games which I absolutely have no interest in.

Two other ancient Egypt war and nation-building strategy game I enjoyed are Predynastic Egypt and Egypt: Old Kingdom.

Do you have any games you recommend in this vein? Feel free to skip the well-known titles like Hearts of Iron.

Why is the pharaoh a black guy?

Everyone knows that Egyptian leaders were genetically similar to a spectrum of humans spanning the Levant to the ancient Celts.

The far left and far right guy look fairly accurate, the middle left guy is wildly goofy and not sure what they were going for with him. The woman is a bit odd but not so outlandish it's unbelievable. Ancient Egyptians were weird motherfrickers.

Well he's not the Pharoah cause he's not got the funny hat.

But he's probably a Nubian since the Nubians had a lot of crossover with the Egyptians, and there was a line of Nubian Pharoahs (also Sudan has more pyramids per square mile than Egypt).

Egyptian kings had a wide variety of funny hats to choose from. The guy in OP's pic wears the Khepresh, or the Blue Crown (sometimes called the War Crown). It was popular with New Kingdom Pharaohs and they were often depicted wearing it in battle scenes.

In terms of total war just stick with modded Rome 1 and Medieval 2. You can get some pretty great mods for either, such as Fourth Age, Europa Babarorum 1 and 2, Tsardoms, and Third Age DAC AGO.

Quickly gave up when all the original Russian warhammer mod download links were dead so now I'm stuck with a semi-playable unstable Stainless Steel

For me SS crashes during sieges mainly. Random ctd's are rare on my old brick laptop. The trick ive found for siege battles is if it stutters during deployment phase turn the camera away from the walls so you are facing the edge of the map and just wait a minute or two and it will run fine. That said, ive been temoted to castrate myself when it crashes after i win a major battle i shouldve have won. Also how tf do you win as mongols without cheats? Im forced to raze each city unless its the khan as general and they just rebel like 10 turns later when im balls deep into the middle east. Ive tried suiciding my entire starting hordes and running just basic horse archers and light cav but i can never loot enough money to not be -100k+ by like turn 20 ish. Also those ottoman archer dudes are OP for siege defense on the walls. Crusaders and teutons are probably my fav factions. Taking the levant with the crusaders and waiting for the mongols to buttfrick muslims while they jihad jerusalem is ebin kino

Atilla has a mod called Medieval Kingdoms. Its been in development for years.

It is the deFacto medieval 3 with faction mechanics, new map, rosters for each faction and victory conditiona for em.

Give it a look, a big update is coming this year.

        Anonymous

Atilla was the last “grounded” Total War. Units felt like they had impact and the battles had this kino feeling of authenticity.

The Medieval II LOTR mod is a 10/10 but while the old games have massively superior campaign mechanics, the old engine’s battles — apart from collision physics — have aged like milk compared to the newer titles (when you don’t factor in the dogshit MOBA game design of Rome II and onwards)

I am prepared to die on this hill.

Yeah i love attila. I wish i could figure out how to mod the pirated version i play as i refuse to give money to CA anymore. Its annoying to have every settlement around you razed to the ground halfway through a campaign. I usually play hun so i just kill the nomads with that amazons starting stack as the leader and his turn 1 new horde both bumrush the germans around rome so i can sit and shit as long as possible raiding medolanium or whatever its called. I had one campaign as white huns where all satrapies rebelled turn 4 and i made the persians my b***hes after a few battles. Its a very satisfying game for my history/metagaming autism

Total War is about real time battles not strategy or nation building, also Three Kingdoms is considered to be one of the Top 3 Total War games and that is their latest game with Warhammer 3 having one of the most feature rich maps and factions of any 4X game.

    >Last Train Home

    >War Hospital and Conscript
Not really /k/ but they're set during the Great War so it's worth mentioning. One's a management game and the other is a Silent Hill type thing though.
I wish I had more but I have not bothered to keep up with gaming shit at all in the past months, I bought Anno 1800 recently and this shit's like crack so it's keeping me entertained until these games and Broken Arrow come out.

Total war is so unrealistic in its troop commands, realistically they would be placed initially in formation with the rest of the army, given a set of orders for the match and left to auto resolve.

Morale would be more important than army health too.

      Best mods?

-I like Rt56 as a sort of Vanilla+ (though that's it's own mod but I don't know what it changes.
-The Great War is nice, but I think the focus too much on being historically accurate rather than letting you branch out into other possible routes.
-Kaisserreich, it's too cute for it's own good, and balkanizing everything means you're lucky to field even artillery, and it's more focused on setting you down narrative paths than playing in the sandbox. I don't get why it's so popular.
-Pax Britanica, I like what it's doing with a steampunk world, but I don't see the point of all the grimdark and honestly it's just broken right now save for a handful of countries.
-Old World Blues, I think some of the equipment clutters up your management but that's what you'd expect in the post-apocalypse, think they still need to make some adjustments to air and naval. Biggest problem though was how they split off early game expansion of the NCR and Legion to vassal countries. Why? You want to grow from a small to big country play any other tag. Why remove the early game expansion for the majors? Also I appreciate they use lore from cancelled games and spinoff to inform what they do in different parts of the map that we don't know much about rather than just making up shit from nothing.
-Equestria at War, I feel they should go for a more tongue in cheek approach, but it's the opposite of Kaisserreich's gameplay, higher industry than your population encourages everyone to use tanks which is the good shit. I also like the industrialization mechanic they have. Just wish they'd do something to make the naval game engaging.

If you ignore the presence of ponies (which is hard, that one anime-styled mod helps a bit, but not much) it is one of the best mods for HoI4.
Works more smoothly, since ponyfrickers can somehow code better than those fricking swedes at paradox and gameplay-wise it is way better than vanilla game.

            Anonymous

Yeah, they added a 'mojave territories' vassal to the NCR who does all the real fighting around vegas, meanwhile Lanius gets his own vassal state that conquers out west rather than Caesar. I just don't see the point.

Runs better because the population is way lower, which leads to smaller armies, less big numbers to calculate.

Also I don't get being too offended by ponies to play a good mod. I mean sure the premise is absurd, but when you get down to it it's like any other total-conversion mod.
