Can you believe the Sega Master System is still being manufactured in brazil? which probably makes it the longest running retro console.

arent these plug and play consoles? they're still being made specially after the classic/mini console craze

Pretty sure they're just ARM emulation SOACs now now, but hardware Famiclones and Genesis clones are still being produced by the thousands as we speak. Every decent Genesis clone can play SMS games, so there's that.

They are, but they were being manufactured in Brazil long before the mini console fad.

it's a shitty emubox with preloaded games that doesn't even look like the original console. even in the US you can buy a genesis flashback console that's a nearly 1:1 replica and can play real cartridges. this thing is just moronic.

I quite like the way these machines look, I'd get one if it weren't for the price, about R$250, so the price of a PS4 title. Also, I don't like how they're shipped with these 6 button controlers, 4 would be fine, 2 standard buttons and 2 turbo buttons, but 6 makes no sense considering it's the Master System and not the Mega Drive/Genesis. One more thing is that, while good looking on the outside, the interface is something straight out of Microsoft Paint and it's really just an emulator with 132 specific ROMs, I prefer to just use an emulator with all ROMs I'm interested in.

I'm sure they use 6 button controllers because the molds still exist and they are already mass produced.

XYZ don't do anything in game, if you press the three at the same time it resets to the main menu.
The brand new ones got very expensive all of the sudden, but they are widely available on flea markets.

Tec toy, a br toy company, had the rights to produce the console locally, and since it wouldn't pay import taxes, that made the console way cheaper than any other console, they still produce master systems, but it seems it doesn't use cartridges, the games are loaded in memory
        https://www.tectoy.com.br/master-system-evolution-com-132-jogos-na-memoria-995020351822-p186

They go for 300 R which is about 60 USD

So no evidence. Got it. Feel free to share if you ever find any.

What would you admit as evidence? It was known since the 00's by segagays that the master system keeps getting sold over there are have had multiple revisions, some with preloaded ROMs, others with cartridge slots and all because their import prices are fricked so modern consoles are unattainable there.

I had one of those Eastern European pirated Famiclones, and I thought it was crazy how they were still selling them around the year 2000. I kept waiting for them to move on to cloning the SNES or Mega Drive, but I guess everything past that first generation was too complex and costly to reverse-engineer and replicate.

If this is one of those and not an emubox, that's kind of insane.

Anything is """evidence""". It's just a question of whether it supports your argument. Start with pics of the mobo. If not conclusive then decap of the glop top.

It's a licensed product, the actual system itself isn't relevant. It could be an empty box and it would still be a new iteration of the system because it's licensed. Why do you even care if it's actually a master system or not, anyway? If Nintendo sold NOAC plug and plays as modern versions of their old systems, those would still be official Nintendo products. They'd probably catch an equal amount of shit for not having a cartridge socket, too.

Not the anon you're making a bad faith argument with, but if it's not just an ARM emulator box at this point, it's almost certainly a Genesis SOAC. Those are still in mass production and are backwards compatible with the SMS.

I have never seen anyone buy one of those here in São Paulo. They look and feel like those souljaboy scam consoles, except they actually have the licenses to sell.
The last time I saw one at a toy store was the one trying to cash in on guitar hero, and that already lacked the sms cartridge slot, which makes it useless for fans and collectors.

    br here.
the whole "omg master system is still popular in Brazil!" is actually a meme. Yes we do have a manufacturer called tectoy who has the license for sega stuff and yes they kept making master systems (as well as mega drive), but master system was never as popular as memes made you believe it was. In actual times when it could have been popular it was vastly overshadowed by famiclones (which can't be calculated in quantities sold for obvious pirate reasons, but believe me, for every kid who had a master, 50 had a famiclone).
Master system was mostly the low cost sega console aunts and grandmas would get when kids asked for "the Sega" (meaning the mega drive, which is what kids wanted in the 90s, not the Master)
By the late 90s/early 00s, chipped playstations were super affordable thanks to very cheap bootleg games, and K62 computers let everyone play games on PC for cheap also thanks to piracy (and cyber cafes with LAN)
Master system was never a real mvp as people were made to believe. Sorry for breaking the illusion of brazil being magical master system land.
