fucking retard, there's a reason why game engines as versatile as unity is popular, you can make a wide variety of games with them and with a community of gamemakers surrounding it, there's a ton of resources around that you can use that makes making a game significantly easier. that goes for both indie devs and actual professional devs. you don't have to reinvent the fucking wheel when there's someone who already did much of the groundwork for you.
not to mention that a significant chunk of games are actually made in unity (and unreal). having your own in-house game engine you either created or liscenced from someone else is expensive both in terms of actual monetary cost, development time, and effort.
i will also have to refute your point about how it would be a good thing. it is not. it wouldn't lead to this hypothetical paradise of passionate devs who are in it for the love of making games and not for the sake of getting rich or earning money, you'd just end up more games created by souless corps hiring bugmen to do the majority of the coding, leading to games becoming more bland and yet more expensive as they try to cut as much corners as possible and gouge you out of your wallet with microtransactions while they're at it. there'd be less people willing to innovate and create something novel and instead they'll just latch on to popular fads using the same familiar gameplay and story tropes and reach for an ever wider audience. in essence, you'd just end up with a worse gaming landscape than you have now. you might as well wish for the collapse of the entire gaming industry, which given the braindead contrarian retards here who complain about shit games but refraining to actually play anything outside of the AAA slop that they're used to like the normalfags that they are, isn't really that far off the course.
