Maybe that's what they don't get, MGS isn't supposed to be taken very seriously, its a classic for that reason too. Though Twin Snakes was so over the top with the nonsense and comedic stuff it devalues the experience by quite a lot, as for all things you need some kind of balance.

Twin snakes was made under Kojimas blessing, those changes were his original vision that he couldn't make on the Playstation. You may remember in the original snake does a flip to avoid a shot from ravens tank.

MGS1 will always be one of the apexes of innovation in the gaming industry and one of the most replayable games no matter how many generations come and go. Kojima's creation here is a timeless masterpiece. Even technological limitations helped Shadow Moses become the atmospheric achievement it was. The backtracking becomes easier with the player's growth of familiarity with the map and its layout, it's not the game's fault you're playing with a distracted mind you ADHD-riddled zoomer.

This is my biggest issue with MGS1 in general. Stealth and exploration completely dissipate after the first disc. MG2 and GB both strike a better balance for my tastes.
Better to have a short enjoyable game than that slogfest.

I think the whole story of Metal Gear Solid 1-4 is fantastic for video games, but there's really nothing that deep about it. It's good in that certain parts can actually illicit emotion, especially in the 4th game, but it's not really deep, just long and detailed.
The second game had the closest thing to "deep" commentary at its end.
