Cancelled Video Game

Did you know?
These was meant to be a Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game for the Nintendo Entertainement System. The game was meant to release in the summer of 1988 but was cancelled due to the company going bankrupt but had planned to base it on the first and second movie. They were going to use second movie characters like Chop Top. I know this since my dad worked for the company back in the 1980s and help start it back in 83 but they went broke while working on it. His other friend who worked for the company backed up the story and explained they got the official rights to make a game based on the movies. He said that he didn't know what happened to the prototype copy of the game but it's probably somewhere in one of his boxes or maybe in the hands of another employee. They developed the game for about a year starting in early 1987 and got a good bit of the game none and had showed it off to the right holders and they liked it. They said the game was like a mix of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game on the Atari 2600 and the Friday the 13th Game from the Nintendo entertainment system.
Just wanted the world to know.

While this is 4chon so I am inclined to believe your story to be bullshit, it doesn't sound out of the realm of possibility. Did they work on any other games? Is there any scrap of production material to back up your story?

Well, from what my dad told me that worked on a couple small indie projects for Commadore 64 like text adventure games on floppy disks sold at some small stores and shops and hobbyist places. He said I probably may have it somewhere in his attic or in some of his boxes of junk or another worker could have it. He said they didn't take any photos and videos of the game.

Well, I'd definitely encourage you to help him try to find whatever he might still have from the project. Licensed games based on horror movies have an inherent charm to them.

I'll go by his house tomorrow and ask him since I've got the day off that day, and he's retired.
Hope he still has the game.

and so begins one man's elaborate ruse to pass off his homebrew as a genuine prototype and milk a hoarder's bank account. godspeed op. godspeed.

faking prototypes and lost games seems like an opportunity to become rich. like that guy who became a millionaire selling fake joseph smith artifacts to the mormons. if I had a just smidgeon less scruples, and heaps more motivation, I'd do it.

      >rich
You'd have to make a lot of fake prototypes to get really rich off of it.

Partly, but regardless, outside of a few examples, prototypes never really caught on with them like sealed games. And unless you get a hype man like Frank Cifaldi to promote your listing, you'll be lucky to break 3 figures, especially if you're trying to push a prototype of a popular title and don't have convincing evidence of the legitimacy. People have tried to forge prototypes and tend to get found out

Op, if we can help in any way please dont hesitate to ask. This board is unbelievably hostile and angry, don't get discouraged if these morons insult you and stop replying. There is probably a better forum to discuss this on, like maybe a retrogaming subreddit or GBATemp.
Assuming you're not larping, this would be an extremely interesting story for many people - you could really make a lot of people happy by finding these disks, even if the data appears to be lost.
    Also long live Bill Mosley

in the remote chance of op not being full of shit, the ideal people he should notify are those from hidden palace or the cutting room floor.

Also so I called my dad and he hasn't called back so he's probably asleep still or doing something like yard work so I'm going to call him back in a little bit.

Alright so I called my dad and told him about it and he said I could come over.
It will take 30 minutes to get to his house and I'll probably be there for a hour or so.
I'll report back when I get back home.

Alright so I'm back and I wasn't able to find the game yet but he has a lot of boxes full of lots of junk and other old stuff and he said it may be somewhere in there which will take a long time. I asked my dad about it and said he remembered there was a level where you had to run away from leatherface and a similar level later in the game where Nubbins chased you and would try to stab you with his switchblade and you had to avoid him or get out of his grasp as you had a health bar for the nubbins one but not the leather one.

I'm going back over to my dad's today and check over the couple other boxes of junk he has so I'll be back in a couple hours to report on what I find.

I checked some more of the boxes and found nothing but I called up one of his old friends who helped make the game and he told me a bit more info and that there was one level where you got to fight Leatherface as Lefty in a Friday the 13th LJN style fight.

You have floppy disk reader? I find this hard to believe you'd have it on hand.

This doesn't seem too farfetched, but it is starting to come across as a LARP with which your running out of steam. Was a publisher lined up? Had anybody on the project worked on any games prior, or went on to work on other games?
