Most forgotten mon even with a gimmick but /vp/ is not ready for this discussion yet.

Smeargle has broken several metagames over the years. It's probably the most memorable gimmickmon after Ditto.

Quaquaval, Emboar and Inteleon are ugly as sin yet they are considered furbait on this website.

        Who would've thought, huh?

Anyway, the definition of furbait is subjective. There are absolutely people who would consider Smeargle to be furbait.

What is the even the definition of furbait anyway if pokemon that are commonly lewded by furries like Vaporeon and Ninetales arent considered furbait. Yet pokemon that furries dont give 10 shits about like Emboar and Quaquaval are considered furbait. If being a bipedal animal with a job is considered furbait then Smeargle should be considered furbait

I was genuinely surprised when i learned it was a gen 2 mon. Could have sworn he came from gen 3

you can't even get it in gen 3

Yes you could, just not in Ruby & Sapphire. It was in one of the Gamecube games too.

Even if you played gsc as a kid you weren’t likely to even see smeargle unless you knew where it spawned (a single patch of grass at a 10% rate with natu being the other 90), meanwhile smeargle is the only spawn in artisan cave in emerald so it’s really not that crazy

        Anonymous

You can at the Gen 3 Battle Frontier in Artisan cave. Though it’s fairly easyto get in Gen2 (it’s right outside the ruins of Alph.

I think it stems from suspension of disbelief.
The painter parts are minimally incorporated to Smeargle's design (Paintbrush tail, bipedal to make use of tail, top of head resembles a painter's cap yet still looks natural) in a way to make the painter parts obvious, yet still come off as a creature you could reasonably encounter multiple individuals of in the wild like you would any animal.
    Compare that to
    >Hariyama and Medicham: More overt jobmons, yet designed in a way to look like wild creatures.
    >Hitmonchan: Has a couple parts that look man-made, but isn't encountered in the wild at all except in LGPE and SWSH.
    >Machoke, Throh, and Swak: Same as Hitmonchan, but is found in the wild since their debut. Throh's dex entries claims its belt is made from vines.
    >Oricorio: Similar to Hariyama. At this point in the suspension of disbelief scale, this Pokémon would be about as most overt as you can get with a jobmon while still being a believable creature.
    >Cinderace and Obstagoon: Fur pattern resembles its job, rabbit/badger with proportions resembling that of a human. Cinderace is in the human-like egg group and is a starter Pokémon which are rarely to never seen in the wild, whereas Obstagoon is field only and is found in the wild. This is the point where one could say it reaches in the uncanny valley, calling them fursuitbait.

In what fricking way does the tumor on Smeargle's head and the random drip of paint on its tail look natural?
This is some legit "it's ok when gen 2 does it" tier cope.

Its name is Smeargle as in Beagle but with paint smears.
      Beagles are dogs.
      Moron.

It looks absolutely nothing like a beagle. The english name is just smear+gle, in JP it's something akin to dobbler. You could argue the -gle is from burgle since it "steals" moves and be just as right.

It's a oposum, deal with it. Or just another generic monster thing.

One language out of how many? JP is the only one that actually matters since the rest are at the mercy of localizers. Also: It still looks nothing like a beagle. Or even a dog. Not colors, not shapes, nothing. The only thing it's got in common with beagles is that its ears are floppy. But ohhh on Bulbapedia it says they're beagles so that's that! Fricking tragic.

          >It's a oposum
It looks even less like a possum. At least it has a beagle's floppy ears and its tongue sticking out like cartoon dogs.

Smeargle has 0 sex appeal AT ALL. Its not sexy enough, its not cute enough, its not handsome enough, its not bulky enough and its not ugly enough to appeal to any main furgay niche, and since you neec to do more than Mash A to use it properly, nobody casual gives a frick about it.

I have NEVER seen anyone that wanted to not only have sex with, but to breed and frick Smeargle EVER
