No, they have 3D armor. They've proven they can do it, but for some reason they don't. I don't understand why. If they're trying to compete with FFXIV now painted on textures won't win the females over to their game like how they want.

Might be because adding hundreds of thousands more polygons with separate 3D armor would force the system requirements to be increased.
Can't have that when half the remaining playerbase is third worlders playing on tokens.
So many differently shaped character models that you can't just resize and slightly edit the protruding parts like you can with shoulders.

They're adding another race that is jsut the human skeleton reused.
The actual issue with WoW is that sub numbers are irrelevant because a single month with 1M subscribers already make more money than most game's lifetime sales. Shareholders can complain that numebrs are going down but the maintenance and development costs of WoW are so stupidly cheap due the assets they use that they can leave it running with a skeleton crew and still be mroe succesful than Hots ever was.
MMOs are cash cows. It is crazy, I don't even think the money they generate even goes back into the game itself, sadly. Look at FFXIV as another prime example people spend in the thousands on fantasia potions; hell, I've even had someone in my FC would would fantasia weekly which is $40 a month which is $480 a year on top of their sub.
WoW has the boomer market cornered with Classic as I know people with 3 different accounts just for Classic era.

It never has. Wanna know how bad it is? LEt me add something to my sub statement before: the subs are even more relevant because not a single WoW expansion needed subs. All of them made all the development cost back in the first month and enough profit to pay for the next expansion. That's only with the actual expansion sales.
WoW (Blizzard as a whole really) makes a lot of money but it all goes up to the pockets or to projects that fail due overambition or failure to cash on them properly.
Blizzard literally cannot die, it's too profitable. If anything, maybe one day they announce them dissolving or somethign to then announce a different company being founded to clean Blizzard's name, but even nowdays most people still associates them with quality.

Because everything the game has done since launching in 2004 has been based on that underlying engine, which in itself was a retooling of WC3's engine.
So unless Blizzard announces WoW 2 (which they won't announce, because
and so on, etc etc), all you'll ever get from WoW is more modifications of their base engine.
Sometimes it can look decent, but most of the time it'll just look like OP pic.

As far as I know they never did more than a couple of pieces of 3D armor on token pieces like shoulders and belts. The 3D that's kind of visible in Dragonflight transmog sets aren't really 3D in the way that modern MMO armor is. Like it's still fully meshed to the player model.

That's the tradeoff for having unique-looking races, the alternative is to go the FFXIV route and have human, human with cat ears, human with bunny ears, lanky human, big human, and now big furry human

Don't really care about the hows and whys of armor, my characters wear as little of it as possible.

To be fair, starting with Shadowlands they have been adding some relatively skimpy armors, and they've been putting out HD upgrades of the old Vestment armors that are still as skimpy as the originals and are now skimpy on men, too.

They should, and their playerbase should be happy getting objective upgrades to their game.
They won't be happy however, because they only play to make numbers go up, whether that be achievement points, mount numbers, stat numbers, gold numbers, whatever, and moving to WoW2 would make some or all of those numbers go back to zero.
Instead of playing a game because they enjoy the gameplay and getting an upgraded game to enjoy even more, they play a game to suffer the gameplay and make temporary numbers go up until they've sunk cost a pair of shackles around their ankles so that they can never escape the grind.
People slobbering all over blizzard's wiener the moment they do any single tiny decent change are just trying to make those shackles seem a little less stifling.
