One thing I like about the newer games is they got rid of having to do both village and hub. Always sucked having to do two sets of low rank quests before you go to high rank.
This game is boring as shit. It's not even a real open "World". Got about halfway through and realized there's nothing more to it than kill monster a bunch of times, craft armor and new weapon, kill the next stronger monster, rinse and repeat for 100 hours.

World is baby tier game. He's only gonna struggle once he hits Alatreon/Fatalis/Raging Brachydios which require actual preparation. 99% of the game can be brute forced throught.

Yeah low and high rank have never really been challenging in any of the games. G-Rank, or I guess MR now in Iceborne and Sunbreak, is essentially where any real difficulty exists, and typically with only a few monsters are actually a proper challenge.

I'm 50% sure he doesn't even know how CB actually works, since I think he didn't even have red shield up. Plus, triple carting to low rank Khezu with a CB is a special kind of shameful, if you think you know how to play the weapon.
I never understood why people pretend any weapon in these games is complex. When people call GS hard to learn I am baffled. Same with shit like Charge Blade. The only weapon in the entire series that's even remotely "complex" is Hunting Horn, or more accurately, WAS since Rise decided to turn it into a mindless button masher.
HH was only sorta complex in FU and earlier games, since it had the unwieldy recital mode. Ever since it became 'certain attack corresponds to certain note' it just became a matter of knowing which songs your horn has. Rise shat over it, yeah, but it was never complex.

Reminder that calebhart ( DS, FF7, MMX speedrunner ) started playing MHW this week and triple carted 3 times on nergigante while asmongold killed it on his first attempt.
You never realize how fricking hard the GS hits until you use a different weapon, for example a single crit draw hit does as much damage as the hammer 2 hit combo.
I know, i played a bunch of weapons in world.
There is a reason why i sticked to GS for Master Rank and coud get to Shara without ever using any Clutch Claw Mechanics.
First i wondered why i needed so much time and the Monsters felt so spongy. >still made it out of most Quests sub 25
Frick the Cluch Claw, putting in a mandatory mechanic when the base game never conditions you to put up with this trash is just shitty game design.
Btw, Frost Craft is cool, really boosted the Crit Draw Playstyle, tho it never felt as powerfull as in base world.

Great Luck, and the variations on it, have never been particularly good. It slightly increases the odds of rolling for more quest rewards, but it's generally more efficient to just have a set with good offensive skills so the hunt itself goes smoother.
Carving Pro/Celebrity/Whatever or Capture Expert/Master are usually the superior reward-increasing skills, though I have no idea if World actually has those.

simple as that. We finished Sunbreak after the final update and really just wanted to play World again. I feel like World and Iceborne were good starts to a heavier "ecosystem" focus (though likely held back heavily by how awful the PS4 and Xbox One's specs were), where as Rise is fun mindless action.
My only major issue with both is the colors look fricking bad. World's less bad in that regard since its only washed out, but its super noticeable in Rise just how drab, dull, and just "off" the colors look.
MH gays will never admit it but asmon is getting carried hard by dark souls fundamentals, you can play mh like rollslop using whatever simple combo string you have that does the most damage and you'll be fine for 99% of the game

The usual Gameplan was to Draw Sheath till the Monster toppled, and then go ham with the standart into roundslash ad infinitum.
I played the original Monster Hunter before Dark Souls released, and so did all of my friends(allthough they woud mostly play FU).
Thats why its realy interesting for me to see how Players react with their Souls Muscle Memory, and how it can frick them over from "getting" the game.
I predict that if he had started the Series with MHFU for example, he woud have quitted somewhere in low rank or learned to play the "right" way.
Back then it was more about positioning and pattern recognition, today it fells more about reaction.

people always say this but it feels like half the "tells" are the same thing so i dunno if its just a feint or an attack or a windup
nta, but its something you pick up on the more you play and the more you fight a monster. Its inevitable you'll frick up reading the tells on the first 1-3 times you fight any given monster for the first time.
There's layers to it. For example a monster may have a rear up and then slam their arm down in a diagonal motion, meaning that being under the arm is a safe space since they move forward and the hitbox will be behind you, so you learn to dodge into the monster when the attack comes, but when enraged, maybe the monster has an extra stutter to the attack and will instead do a different one thats made to catch people that dodge into it.
At first you'll probably only register where the monster ends up after the attack, but eventually you'll recognize the lead up to the normal attack, and after more fights you'll learn to differentiate the enraged attack from the normal one. But this recognition is usually a split second thing, it's not you saying to yourself "oh he's doing this" unless the monster typically has a pattern to its attacks, which is also a thing.
It's sort of like how you don't have to calculate a trajectory to catch a ball. Given enough time it will become an automatic thing.
Most monsters begin telegraphing 3-5 seconds in advance, if you know what to look for.
Other than that, consider the following: whatever move the monster decides to use next, it must be a move that can hit you from your current position and angle of attack, thus you can rule out the vast majority of a monster’s move set just from where you are standing in relation to it.

I never understood why people pretend any weapon in these games is complex. When people call GS hard to learn I am baffled. Same with shit like Charge Blade. The only weapon in the entire series that's even remotely "complex" is Hunting Horn, or more accurately, WAS since Rise decided to turn it into a mindless button masher.
That's generally why they would change a weapon with such a low pick rate. Side games like Rise are where they do all sorts of experimental changes as a testing ground for the main games..

As one hunting horn guy put it, the Rise HH is damage without the music. They buffed up stuff about the horn, but lost the character that it had before, and the people that really don't like the rise horn don't like it because they loved the feeling of playing an instrument and beating a monster to death with it at the same time.
Holy shit. I'm farming MR Diablos, did about 1000 damage to him in the first couple minutes of the fight, break his horns. A Savage Deviljho comes along, turf wars him, won't leave the two of us alone even after dung bombing the Diablos away and five minutes later the Diablos has a skull icon and is ready for capture.
This is driving me crazy, why is it in world, out of 10 times when i charge with the lance, my hubter juat stops as if i pressed a button? I've even made sure none of my fingers are resting on the buttons and it still happens. Is it input queueing or just fricked up terrain doing it?

Alright fine, I'm reinstalling. I don't have iceborne and the last thing I did was beat the main quest, almost entirely only long sword and greatsword. I had practically no complex thought or strategy and unga bunga'd my way to the end, so to actually learn the game do I start from scratch and replay the main story with unfamiliar weapons and level them all sort of equally to get exposure or just pick a few new weapons I'm interested in and stick with them for a "new game" experience.
Protip, if a game has TAA then just sharpen the image. If there is no in-game sharpening filter then install reshade and the CAS plugin. Never use TAA without sharpening.
deferred rendering killed msaa so your only options are blur filters, supersampling or no AA.
MSAA did not work to eliminate all the jaggies, plus high performance impact. Something like TAA+maybe some SMAA+sharpening is actually better.

I cleared freedom and FU at around 13 to 15 and I did find them really hard admittedly. We were pretty shit at the games back then but still managed through it with time and effort and it was really satisfying.

Can the game be considered difficult if only endgame is hard? 4U was hardest for me but I still only failed Dalamadur once until G rank (carted once against Tetsucabra because I forgot how to play MH, once against Red Khezu, Zinogre, Red Khezu again) and it got really difficult at 140+ but still manageable. Had similar trajectory with GU, 3U was easy, FU was easy once I discovered how strong Barrell bombs are, P3rd and Tri don't have G rank. Playing Dos now and smaller mobs are making it difficult but I'm still in early game. Bullfango did 30% of my HP with one attack. Maybe it helps that I main GS that's strong in every MH game.
I think you're forgetting how many hundreds of hours you've poured into this series. A lot of MH mechanics and fundamentals carry over from game to game.
I'm not saying it's the best part of the game, but I very much enjoy the climb to the endgame. Getting access to new stuff, seeing which weapons I can upgrade next, I love those parts.

I think evade-GL is more viable in World, since you can hope more than once, but I'd still run full-on Guard.
You always want Evade Extender 3 for more mobility. In World you want Evade 5 or Guard 5 + Guard up. In rise you don't need either, you just want to maximize your wirebug uptime and spam Reverse Dash iframes. And just use the crazy EE dodge distance in Rise to reposition instead of blocking or iframe dodging.
It ran a lot better in general by the end of iceborne

I assume the defiance skill is also really handy for lance.
Defiance is fricking insane for both lances, however keep in mind that it doesn't stop your stamina drain while guarding, you can't just stay there guarding unless your build has max stamina skills (Heaven sent, Berserk, Furious)

EE3 is massively overkill for any weapon in Rise besides maybe IG (and only because air dodging is affected by EE so soaring through the air endlessly becomes fun)
Especially on GL with blast dash and reverse blast available.
If you're not speed running, optimal does not matter.
Trying to play "optimally" is why most people wind up actually sucking because they keep going for the same shit and only get punished for it.
I'm going to keep playing the weapon the way i like it, get more than fine kill times, and enjoy the game much more than you ever will.

You're right, but dodging around the monster and throwing out the right attacks safely does.
All that matters is killing the monster. If an 8 minute hunt vs a 5 minute hunt is that awful for you, play a gun or a different game.

And dunes area 2 is garbage, the slopes make for janky hitboxes.

Yeah low and high rank have never really been challenging in any of the games. G-Rank, or I guess MR now in Iceborne and Sunbreak, is essentially where any real difficulty exists, and typically with only a few monsters are actually a proper challenge.

HH was only sorta complex in FU and earlier games, since it had the unwieldy recital mode. Ever since it became 'certain attack corresponds to certain note' it just became a matter of knowing which songs your horn has. Rise shat over it, yeah, but it was never complex.

The hardest boss in the game for him was the forging menu.

Great Luck, and the variations on it, have never been particularly good. It slightly increases the odds of rolling for more quest rewards, but it's generally more efficient to just have a set with good offensive skills so the hunt itself goes smoother.
Carving Pro/Celebrity/Whatever or Capture Expert/Master are usually the superior reward-increasing skills, though I have no idea if World actually has those.

simple as that. We finished Sunbreak after the final update and really just wanted to play World again. I feel like World and Iceborne were good starts to a heavier "ecosystem" focus (though likely held back heavily by how awful the PS4 and Xbox One's specs were), where as Rise is fun mindless action.
My only major issue with both is the colors look fricking bad. World's less bad in that regard since its only washed out, but its super noticeable in Rise just how drab, dull, and just "off" the colors look.

The usual Gameplan was to Draw Sheath till the Monster toppled, and then go ham with the standart into roundslash ad infinitum.
I played the original Monster Hunter before Dark Souls released, and so did all of my friends(allthough they woud mostly play FU).
Thats why its realy interesting for me to see how Players react with their Souls Muscle Memory, and how it can frick them over from "getting" the game.
I predict that if he had started the Series with MHFU for example, he woud have quitted somewhere in low rank or learned to play the "right" way.
Back then it was more about positioning and pattern recognition, today it fells more about reaction.

people always say this but it feels like half the "tells" are the same thing so i dunno if its just a feint or an attack or a windup
nta, but its something you pick up on the more you play and the more you fight a monster. Its inevitable you'll frick up reading the tells on the first 1-3 times you fight any given monster for the first time.
There's layers to it. For example a monster may have a rear up and then slam their arm down in a diagonal motion, meaning that being under the arm is a safe space since they move forward and the hitbox will be behind you, so you learn to dodge into the monster when the attack comes, but when enraged, maybe the monster has an extra stutter to the attack and will instead do a different one thats made to catch people that dodge into it.
At first you'll probably only register where the monster ends up after the attack, but eventually you'll recognize the lead up to the normal attack, and after more fights you'll learn to differentiate the enraged attack from the normal one. But this recognition is usually a split second thing, it's not you saying to yourself "oh he's doing this" unless the monster typically has a pattern to its attacks, which is also a thing.
It's sort of like how you don't have to calculate a trajectory to catch a ball. Given enough time it will become an automatic thing.
Most monsters begin telegraphing 3-5 seconds in advance, if you know what to look for.
Other than that, consider the following: whatever move the monster decides to use next, it must be a move that can hit you from your current position and angle of attack, thus you can rule out the vast majority of a monster’s move set just from where you are standing in relation to it.

I never understood why people pretend any weapon in these games is complex. When people call GS hard to learn I am baffled. Same with shit like Charge Blade. The only weapon in the entire series that's even remotely "complex" is Hunting Horn, or more accurately, WAS since Rise decided to turn it into a mindless button masher.

As one hunting horn guy put it, the Rise HH is damage without the music. They buffed up stuff about the horn, but lost the character that it had before, and the people that really don't like the rise horn don't like it because they loved the feeling of playing an instrument and beating a monster to death with it at the same time.

Holy shit. I'm farming MR Diablos, did about 1000 damage to him in the first couple minutes of the fight, break his horns. A Savage Deviljho comes along, turf wars him, won't leave the two of us alone even after dung bombing the Diablos away and five minutes later the Diablos has a skull icon and is ready for capture.
This is driving me crazy, why is it in world, out of 10 times when i charge with the lance, my hubter juat stops as if i pressed a button? I've even made sure none of my fingers are resting on the buttons and it still happens. Is it input queueing or just fricked up terrain doing it?

Longsword: Baby mode for cringelords, cool epic parries and anime moves, dont play this
Greatsword: Missing Simulator, but you look like a god when you actually git gud at it, easy to pick up, hard to master
Dual Blades: Depending on who you ask: b***h Baby tutorial weapon or god tier DPS weapon that requires good positioning at fast speeds because of it's low durability, expect to sharpen weapon a lot
Switch Axe: Bad Charge Blade
Charge Blade: OP weapon for if you want to have a semblance of strategy but don't want to put in the thought of having to play the game, it will always go Sword -> Axe -> Sword -> Axe on repeat forever to trick you into thinking you're cool but you're actually just a sheep
Insect Glaive: Depending on who you ask again: The true thinking mans weapon, or OP bullshit that needs to be removed. I personally don't like it. Kind of feels like the same combo over and over except you actually get to aim at something I guess
Bows: Die
Lances: Very cool guy alert, very minimal gameplay interaction but you poke things to death and are tanky as all hell, gameplay interaction increases with your gud meter
Hunting Horn: Extremely cool guy alert, depending which game they're either the most interactive during their combat or the most boring gameplay imaginable at the cost of having insane damage output and utility, overall chad weapon

Alright fine, I'm reinstalling. I don't have iceborne and the last thing I did was beat the main quest, almost entirely only long sword and greatsword. I had practically no complex thought or strategy and unga bunga'd my way to the end, so to actually learn the game do I start from scratch and replay the main story with unfamiliar weapons and level them all sort of equally to get exposure or just pick a few new weapons I'm interested in and stick with them for a "new game" experience.

Plenty of MH games have difficult endgame but overall it's true. I die more times in Super Mario games than in any MH.
I cleared freedom and FU at around 13 to 15 and I did find them really hard admittedly. We were pretty shit at the games back then but still managed through it with time and effort and it was really satisfying.
But everything after that has been really easy
Hardest thing was not getting your hand cramped on PSP, other than some super late game fights. For me at least, I was 20 or so when I first played it though.
the psp mh games are why i still hit the dpad and face buttons with my index fingers on controllers to this day.
and yes that was probably the biggest learning curve in mh, other than that the games were never really hard.

Can the game be considered difficult if only endgame is hard? 4U was hardest for me but I still only failed Dalamadur once until G rank (carted once against Tetsucabra because I forgot how to play MH, once against Red Khezu, Zinogre, Red Khezu again) and it got really difficult at 140+ but still manageable. Had similar trajectory with GU, 3U was easy, FU was easy once I discovered how strong Barrell bombs are, P3rd and Tri don't have G rank. Playing Dos now and smaller mobs are making it difficult but I'm still in early game. Bullfango did 30% of my HP with one attack. Maybe it helps that I main GS that's strong in every MH game.
I think you're forgetting how many hundreds of hours you've poured into this series. A lot of MH mechanics and fundamentals carry over from game to game.

I think evade-GL is more viable in World, since you can hope more than once, but I'd still run full-on Guard.

Guard works fine in Sunbreak and Iceborne but you probably want Evade Extender for mobility anyways
EE2 or 3 and Guard 3 is easy to get
You always want Evade Extender 3 for more mobility. In World you want Evade 5 or Guard 5 + Guard up. In rise you don't need either, you just want to maximize your wirebug uptime and spam Reverse Dash iframes. And just use the crazy EE dodge distance in Rise to reposition instead of blocking or iframe dodging.

I skipped World for Rise and played World for the first time last week. It's been cool and I understand the hype. I really miss Diving Wyvern though, that move made me feel like a god.
The only thing I miss from Rise is Quick Sheathe working with Iai stance.

If you have some autistic self restrictions on what counts as 'honest' then figure it out yourself
Max guard, maybe 2 points of Guard Up, if you are fighting something that has an attack you want to block that needs it, Speed Sharpener+Protective Polish or Razor Sharp, depending on what the sharpness pattern of your lance is, everything else can be generic damage skills. Probably Crit Boost and Weakness Exploit first. It's Sunbreak, you can fit ten million skills on every set.

Defiance is fricking insane for both lances, however keep in mind that it doesn't stop your stamina drain while guarding, you can't just stay there guarding unless your build has max stamina skills (Heaven sent, Berserk, Furious)

All that matters is killing the monster. If an 8 minute hunt vs a 5 minute hunt is that awful for you, play a gun or a different game.
