I got filtered at Capra Demon dude, holy frick I’ve been getting reamed for 3 hours. The same thing happens almost every time; the dogs brick wall me, then the boss finishes me off. I can’t swing my weapon fast enough to hit the dogs before they hit me. Blocking them with a shield eats up too much time, and my stamina can’t withstand the attacks from the dogs and the demon behind a shield, it doesn’t matter at that point anyway because if I’m blocking attacks like that, I’m cornered anyway.
Cheeses welcome.
stairs
I appreciate the help, but the problem is the dogs don’t usually follow me up the stairs before the demon does.
I’ve made it to the stairs a few times, and the dogs followed me up once. I killed time and was killed by the demon a second later lul
Then throw firebombs/magic when on the stairs.
Tried that shit. The animation to throw the damn things too long to finish.
Trust me I already had the idea to firebomb that place with the 16 bombs I have saved up. I could probably do it it the dogs were dead, but alas
The issue with noobs is that you guys always try to deal damage. try spending 40+ minutes in a boss fight doing nothing but evading attacks. You can clear most bosses first-try with this strat, except maybe in elden ring because they do weird delay/ animation cancel jank.
This, just keep running circles using the stairs and dropping
Don't be greedy
Man, If I could survive 40 minutes with the boss, I wouldn’t be having this issue.
I guarantee you can get 10 minutes just by reaching the stairs.
>doing nothing but evading attacks
This was the advice that helped me the most as a n00b. Not only do you learn the rhythms and safe moments, it helped me relax and not be so clenched up, because I was planning to just play until I died
also a good tip for bosses in old arcade-style games like Contra btw
You just fell for the shitty marketing, the game is not supposed to be this hard. Go explore and talk to the npcs until you get strong to beat Capra Demon, that's where the magic of this game is..
>implying the NPCs are useful for anything other than creepy laughs
Dunno if there's a better strat, but I always dodge/block the dog's initial attacks, then sprint past the demon up the stairs. Try to kill the dogs at the top of the stairs, if you can't then you can drop down and reset.
Basically, you're supposed to use the stairs to your advantage, and you can also use it to plunge attack the capra if you're smart about it.
He did his job then.
Your job is come up with a way to beat him. Big enemy, small arena, two dogs, a stairs immediately to the right offering respite. Put the clues together and git gud.
>Put the clues together and git gud.
>Just know what to do before you enter the fog wall
>>Just know what to do before you enter the fog wall
After you fail a few times, yes, you know the situation, you should be able to formulate a plan.
>Just know what to do before you enter the fog wall
Imagine inventing an argument the other Anon didn't make just to cope
That’s Ganker baby
>first sl1 run
>getting destroyed in anor londo at the royal sentinel/demons/archers run
Summon for help
stack poise, get bit, run up stairs, heal, fall off ledge, kill dogs benny hill style, duel the boss, win.
Alluring skulls for the dogs, charcoal pine resin on your weapon. If that doesn't work look up firebomb cheese on youtube.
Are you upgrading your gear? How are you distributing your stats?
How do I upgrade the gear?
Did you not find the Blacksmith in the Undead Parish?
Oh man... Explore Undead Parish. You'll hear a clinking noise. You can farm upgrade materials from an enemy in the Parish. Can you post a screenshot of your build?
Don't be afraid to do the stairs loop multiple times. You wanna isolate the dogs and kill them as quick as possible, while also getting plunging attacks on capra. If you fluff it, just go round again. If you have to dodge or heal and miss your chance, just keep looping up and round and down again.
Upgrade stamina so you don't run out as fast. Roll past dogs. Upgrade your shield for better stability or find a great shield so you can actually take the block and still have stamina. Use a faster weapon. Use a longer weapon. Use super heavy armor and just piledrive the dogs with your strongest weapon.
If you get to the stairs don't worry if they don't chase you up, just plunge attack or roll off if Capra follows. Once dogs are dead it's very easy.
git gud
>3 hours
>filtered
That's not even that long. Just put the game down and come back to it another day, god damn.
That's potentially 270 minutes worth of tiktok content dude
I either kill this boss first time or it takes me an hour
turn off Camera Auto Wall Recovery in the options.
No one gets filetered by Dark Souls 1. This game is easy as frick. Bosses and enemies have no health and die with a handful of hit with most 2 handed weapons.
Just throw firebombs over the fog gate.
This. You'll get Capra for sure worse case Ontario you'll have a dog or two to contend with.
Kill the dogs on top of the stairs, use a shield against them. Then drop down and fight the demon, you can also try to plunge him. He is parryable as well.
>I got filtered at Capra Demon dude, holy frick I’ve been getting reamed for 3 hours.
Reminds me of that Veiled616 doujin, Deviant Souls or something.
1: Get a shield with decent stability (Upgrade it to +1 or +2 if needed)
2: Got up the stairs in the right corner with your shield up facing them
3: Block and kill the dogs
4: If Capra gets there, just block him and he will fall
5: Plunge attack him
Moreover, you can do the plunge strat on Capra indefinitely, but I just did it on my first time.
On my subsequent ones that's a bit of overkill, since Capra's attacks are easy to dodge and punish.
Enter the battle, run up the stairs and to the right corner, rise your shield, and kill the dogs. Capra Demon will attack you and fall, use the jump attack on him. Repeat the process until he's dead
You're lucky, OP. You've gotten a lot of good, genuine advice in this thread. Capra is a very common filter for people in this game. You've gotten the best advice that you're gonna get. Roll past the dogs, get up the stairs, loop the boss by going up the stairs and falling down again once the dogs are gone, etc.
You just have to have the patience to keep grinding it out. You'll get it eventually. If it feels completely hopeless, you might be a little under leveled. You can always try grinding a bit for a couple of levels
>Capra is a very common filter for people in this game.
I would say that Gargoyles are the bigger filter.
I myself, in my first try, only beat them by the "infinite monkey" strategy, so I never ended up learning to lock my camera, strafe enemies and (Mainly) to roll into enemies (Or at least in diagonals) instead of rolling away from them, which caused me to get stuck in O&S and have to learn that there.
Yeah, Gargoyles is where I got stuck for a VERY long time, had to get Solaire to help out. Even when I replayed it I had to rely on over-upgrading my weapon more than it should be necessary to try damaging that first Gargoyle as fast as I could
>over-upgrading my weapon
That shouldn't be needed, just use a resin.
On my second run I did that with +2 Claymore or something with only the required stats to wield it.
I genuinely don't understand how it takes so long for the game to 'click' for people
>I genuinely don't understand how it takes so long for the game to 'click' for people
Because while the game gets you stuck until you learn what you have to, it never explains or points to what you should learn to begin with.
>Taking two playthroughs to understand that you beat gargoyles by moving around their attacks
The excuse of
>the game never points out that you should roll and/or run past the enemy attack
only lasts so far into the game.
...except it never took me that long?
I don't remember exactly when i started locking my camera (Probably still in my tries of Gargoyles), but regarding rolling, I was talking specifically about rolling INTO enemies so you have attack openings, since rolling away from them in bosses such as O&S will make them jump back before you can touch them.
see
>Even when I replayed it I had to rely on over-upgrading my weapon more than it should be necessary to try damaging that first Gargoyle as fast as I could
Just to be clear, you're answering two different people: Me and some random guy.
That's great, but everything I said was in response to that first Anon.
>I genuinely don't understand how it takes so long for the game to 'click' for people
was speaking in response to someone taking that long to kill Gargs
upgrading your weapon "more than you should" is harder to do than just fighting the gargoyles normally.
Specially considering that Andre sells Titanite Shards, and that you can't get Large Shards until you get to the Depths or Blightown.
>Gargoyles
I tried to beat them for 15 hours because my runback was from the bonfire with the ladder, it took 10 minutes from dying to another attempt, all I had to do was go for the elevator or the bonfire above Andre.
In my case, profound mental moronation
>I got filtered at Capra Demon dude, holy frick I’ve been getting reamed for 3 hours.
Capra Demon almost feels like luck to me with regards to whether or not you survive the initial assault and reach the stair.
Basically you should aim to avoid the enemies and make it to the top of the stairs (easier with a lighter equipment load). Once on the stairs, the dogs will most likely reach you before Capra does and you can kill them.
Once the dogs are dead, Capra can be rather easy to deal with
The cheese is a game mechanic called "poise". If you have armor with high poise, him and the dogs won't stun lock you. The armor set to get that will make the battle a cakewalk is the "stone armor set". You need the key to get to the deep part of the forest that you buy from Andre the blacksmith for 20k souls. The alternate path through the forest eventually leads you to the Wolf Ring, which also boosts poise.
Capra wasn't a filter for me in my first run, since I couldn't figure out how to get to the Lower Undead Burg. If you have the master key, you never need to fight him, but you won't be able to upgrade your weapons past +5.
Wait til you play Sekiro and Elden Ring
I don't know, I've played them all several times and there's nothing like Capra on those two. Even after several playthroughs I cant reliably beat the boss first try because even rolling to the stairs isn't foolproof and the boss run itself is nasty. The battle is usually over if you make it through the dogs, though the demon can still hit you with some of its moves when you deal with the dogs
the cheese strat is to run up the narrow stairs opposite the fog door, kill the dogs as they run after you and either range kill the demon or jump down after you dispose of its lackeys
>run/roll past dog
>kill them as they run past boss and up the stairs
>continue running in circles until you get opportunities to hit the dogs without getting hit by boss
>kill boss when dogs are dead
If you're getting hit it's a skill issue
Armor that has 50+ poise in total.
As soon as you go through the fog gate break to the right to get around capra and his dogs then book it up the stairs, there's a little ledge over the gap you can go to, kill the dogs.
Sometimes capra will walk right under you and you can do a plunging attach.
Or you can lure him up the steps, jump off, run up behind him and attack, lure him down the stairs, run back up the stairs, and repeat.
Really though once you get rid of the dogs more than half of the job is done.
take off all your clothes and unequip your shield unless its the one that gives you stamina, then just roll around and keep running around in circles going up the stairs and try and fall on his head, or jump on the dogs
>Blocking them with a shield eats up too much time, and my stamina can’t withstand the attacks from the dogs and the demon behind a shield
you need to upgrade your shield so it takes less stamina to block. +5 medium should be goof for capra
His attacks are easy enough to dodge.
use 2 weapons. use a rapier/spear with a shield up after you run up the steps to kill the dogs, then switch over to your main weapon which is probably the drake sword and try to keep circling around the demon. use a shield with high poise and dodge when you can.
my general strat is to run a but to the right as soon as i enter, roll through the capra's initial swing/dogbites, and book it up the stairs. once youre up there heal up if you need to and usually the dogs will go up there after you while capra walks behind. make sure you have a weapon that either thrusts or has an overhead swing for the dogs. also a shield helps with the dogs lunge attacks since they bounce off and its an opportunity to attack. hopefully you one shot each dog before capra gets close, but if you cant then drop down and try again. as long as you control the stairs you control the fight
Its been a few years since i played dark souls 1 but I'm pretty sure i just ran up the stairs and jumped onto some type or ledge to the right once you get to the top of the stairs. Then i just shot it with arrows until it died. I also beat that giant dragon by basically backpedaling in circles and shooting arrows. If you're bad at melee or have too much anxiety to fight up close, don't. Adapt. Darks souls games are full of gross or needlessly large and agressive things that just arent worth the risk of getting close to. My general philosophy with souls games is: If you dont have to fight something, run. If you have to kill something, try range. If you can't kill it with range, then learn to fight it and get good. But you get get pretty far without the stress of resorting to developing actual skill. You can run past almost every enemy in ds3, its pretty hilarious. Turns the whole game into a scooby doo chase scene.
This shit gay as frick. Nobody believes you get filter by Capra in 2023
homie I’m currently playing thru the game for the first time and (barely) beat him first try. Stairs + halberd = ez pz
Chaos b***h Quelaag is fricking my shit though
Kellogs is a piece of cake. Just stay to the sides of the spider and when she pets the spider head back off because its going to puke lava all over the place.
There’s an NPC summon if you give up
Second easiest boss in the game after Asylum. Shield for dogs, quickly kill them then take Capra slower time the iFrames right and it's really easy.
Not OP, but speaking of OG Souls, also doing my first run at the moment. picrel was me a couple hours ago. Woohoo. Had played all but the original because it felt too janky and dated, but having it on Switch mejor me coming back for the portability. It has its charms and there really is no beating the level design. It’s truly a 3D Metroidvania
Hardest fight in this game is this killing that red drake. Basically stun locks you if you don't out damage it so you need to cheese. 2nd place would be the sanctuary duo, though there's apparently a trio as well though I never bothered.
throw firebombs over the wall before you go in
>Cheeses welcome.
