It's a massive slog to get new decks in it compared to other official TCG online clients, and despite having a bunch of different formats on it, most of them uniquely exist only on Arena. There are free ways to play MTG with friends online without having to subject yourself to a free to play model that is so ungenerous.

the grinding in arena for wildcards is just the most unreasonable shit i've ever seen in any "free to play" game. it's not even fricking worth it.
Arena is awful unless you're already good enough at the game to go infinite drafting. Otherwise you'll just be getting your ass beat by the hottest metadecks while you struggle for a week to scrounge up 2 out of 24 wild cards you need to build a metadeck of your own. It gets better once you already have a bunch of the interchangeable glue cards that go in everything like dual lands, but even then F2P is suffering. P2W is absurdly expensive too. It's 10 fricking dollars for 4 rare wildcards and 20 for 4 mythic rares.
Make sure to use all the pack codes to get some free shit if you start playing. It's not a lot, but they add more every set so you can save yourself some time that way.
